Don't get the Satachi $79 model. Get the $99 version because it gives you a space to install an ssd drive.
My silicon M1 Mac mini doesn't recognize some usb devices plugged in to the Satachi or a separate USB hub.
I have to see if I can get Applecare to recognize it.
I have no idea why it doesn't work.

I went with the m2 pro Mac mini 16gb ram it’s a beast for pro level work. I have no issues with 4K braw footage on resolve. Color grade, effects etc. I paid 1300$ and there is no pc you can build that runs like the Mac mini for the price.

@@TheFloodLightShow something to keep in mind after testing. The mac will end up ramping and will have internet speed issues when keeping the pc on all day and leaving it on over night. Once I restart the Mac it runs flawlessly and has no issues with speed. I am coming from pc and would never run restarts. Since apple gives up the 14 days I may just return and get the 32gb for future proofing. But something to keep in mind.

Ok but you cant get any mac to match 16 core amd. My wife use my 16 core for PS even when she dies for apple.

Big recommend from me on an under-Mini hub, makes a big difference in ports and storage (mine has a 2.5" bay and a NVME bay.)
You should do a video on your Mini accessories. Like you said, here are plenty of things you can to add to it.
Webcam (mounts), speakers, mics, hard drives, card readers, mice, keyboards.. almost endless.

I'd recommend a TB4 hub such as the caldigit, which has 3 TB4 outputs (but is 1/2 the price of the mac itself)

Just picked up the M2 pro. I’m so surprised this little thing is powerful. The speaker is eh, but I have my own. 4K is cut with ease. I only downloaded the Adobe programs I use. Pr & Ae. I’ll probably download Ps too but not what I bought it for. Forget the ssd if you have external and go for the higher gpu. So far I’m happy with it. 2 usb & 4 usb-c outlets.

@@paulhorn24 He meant Get the $300 Upgrade that consists of more cpu and gpu . i believe its 12 cpu and 19 gpu.
I'd definitely consider upgrading the ram to at least 16GB RAM, that will improve the performance considerably. Not only because of the extra ram but also not having to rely on slow swap memory.
16RAM and 512SSD, and all is fine: less use of SSD and the SSD is 2x size AND 2x the speed.
@@Trebseig Yep, but then you start thinking about dropping another $300 for the M2 Pro mini which starts at 16gbRAM/512gbSSD. And honestly anyone owns only some of the programs used in this test should be going with the M2 Pro version, if not going up to the Mac Studio.
@@Trebseig Yeah that's a good middle point. But for me 16RAM/256SSD is good enough to make it a good low budget powerful machine. I use external storage for everything and with 16GB RAM you won't need swap from the SSD most likely. I'm okay with rendering taking a little longer because I'm usually doing something else while rendering. As long as the editing and previews are smooth which seem to be the case on these mac minis.

How is it working on the timeline in Premiere Pro with MP4 video ? Can u scrub through and edit with ease? If it is I would definitely buy one. Currently I have to encode any MP4 files before editing on my PC.

Nice video.. i'm confused between M2 and m2 pr o...can mac mini m2 with 16GB variant (non pro version) handle multiple layers of 4k video editing with some text layers and a bit of color correction ? I know the m2 pro will handle this but since i'm on a tight budget i want to know if i can get away with the m2 for these kind of workflow ?
Hey there Shankha, oh yes for sure these could handle some 4K tracks and effects. Just takes a little bit longer to export, render, but no biggie. I would just advise, if the budget is there, to boost the ram, it will come in handy later down the road, especially with video as we might all be shooting on 6k/8k in a few years. When you buy an Apple, don't forget to buy some parts for that computer. And all this will only cost you 1000-1200 bucks. And don't forget that you can't upgrade it, so in 3-5 years just throw it away. Or pay for recycling :) But the most amazing thing is that if you want to buy 16GB, it costs twice as much! That is 8GB RAM and 200GB from Apple costs 800 bucks. And these drives are not top of the line. But do not despair, it comes with a sticker!
For the sake of interest, did the same experiments on ASUS Vivo 2020 8GB RAM and Nvidia 1030- video in 4K on 10 tracks pulls, but only the timeline at 1080 set, without proxy files and other things. And pulls it all a mobile processor- i5-7300HQ CPU. Two years ago it cost 700 bucks.

generally apple is tricky with other companies and I've never used a Mac
Hey there Burb, Macs usually play pretty well with others. For monitors and a keyboard/mouse you should have no problems. You will need an "HDMI in" port for the monitor, that will do the trick. Hope that helps and good luck with your new Mac!

I have the M2 Pro 16 GB RAM. I was using Rotobrush v2 from After Effects (4K video) but i got an error of low physical memory. I did some research of lowering the resolution when playback etc...i even did the proxy method but i still got the same problem.
Working with 4K video, especially with a tool as demanding as the Rotobrush, can consume a lot of RAM. It sounds like you've already tried some workarounds, but unfortunately, there may be limits to what the 16GB version can handle with these high-intensity tasks. Thanks for watching and the comment!

@@TheFloodLightShow thats great, as a youtuber while I was recording voice overs on my current gaming laptop, it was making so much noise and mic was recording that noise, so every time I applied noise reduction and that process somehow reduces a little bit of voice quality, so I was looking for a quiet CPU/pc/laptop option and I found ur video, more than that you, answered a very important question of mine, which made me decide to buy mac mini for my work, thanks a ton dear God bless you.

If you don’t mind, I was wondering if you have some recommendations.
I am on a $2500 budget and wanted to dive into the Apple ecosystem for content creating and future career work!
As a content creator, my workload will just consist of alot of 1080p recordings and streams and making them into videos and shorts! I also want to do some photo editing for thumbnails!
I decided on 2 different spec setups:
- M2 iPad Pro 1TB 12.9” ($1699)
- M2 Mac Mini 16GB 512 GB ($879)
Or:
- M2 IPad Pro 512 GB 12.9” ($1299)
- M2 Pro Mac Mini 16GB 512 GB ($1199)
I really like the fact that I can edit videos on my IPad primarily, but I believe getting the 1 TB with the 16GB ram would make a difference in its performance. However using that extra $400 can provide me the M2 Pro Mac Mini and can futureproof the system.
Which setup combo do you think is the better investment? This has me torned.😅
Hey there Mr. Bullseye, good choice on gear. I have the iPad Air 5 here and love it a bunch, but never got the hang of editing videos on it. I do tons of other stuff on it though, from thumbnails to research, it's a great companion for content creation. I would say put the money to the mini pro and as much ram as you can get in there. I am airdropping a lot between the iPad and Mac Studio a bunch, the main system is doing lots of the bulk heavy tasks, exporting, importing, uploading. Hope that helps, apple also has a pretty good return policy if you aren't into it after getting your hands on it for testing. Happens to us all. If I were to purchase the Mac mini M2 pro and had a little more in my budget, would it be better to upgrade the processor to 12 cpu 19 GPU or upgrade to 32gb of ram? For photo editing and video editing in DR
Hey there Wristworm, glad to hear you are going Pro, just got some pretty impressive results from it in After Effects. I always feel like RAM helps out more in the video editing world. The mini Pro I tested out over here is the fully loaded with 32 GB Ram. That brought it up to $2000, Mac studio prices, and the M1 Max was still faster in most areas. More ports on the studio, more cores, sd card reader(which has been a pain not having it on the mini) tough decisions for sure. I‘ve read some reviews from trusted tech journalists and heard the same on Podcasts and CZcams:
First put your money for the RAM (unified memory). A bigger SSD is the second option and don‘t go for the better CPU/GPU at the M2 Pro for the 2023 Mac mini.
There are also some people who talk about the 10 GBit Ethernet because Streaming and external storage might make this upgrade worth in the (very) long run.
My choice is therefore: Upgrade the RAM as much as possible, than research and think about 10GBit hardware to decide if I really need the upgrade for the Ethernet Port and than research and think about SSD USB4 or TB4 enclosures and cables and fast SSD chips to put inside those enclosure. Don‘t worry about the Apple upgrade for the better CPU/GPU and sleep well at night. 😊
And the Mac mini is much quieter than the Mac Studio as that device has its fans running all the time at a low speed. The Mac mini fan is not to be heard.

14:26 I'm sorry but that's not how you are supposed to test playback of multiple tracks. Stacking multiple video tracks like that is just like having a single one, since the NLE only looks at the top one. You need to make the tracks interact with each other.

I wouldnt, they are usually riddled with malware. I do the creative cloud subscription, cancel it anytime. Plus all the betas and updates, lots of stuff happening in adobe world, seems the safe bet. Good luck!

The mini Pro definitely held up with the Max pretty well in premiere and Davinci, but it is a loaded mini pro with a price tag of $2K 😭. That is getting into Mac Studio territory which might be a better machine for us editors 🤦♂️. Tough choices these days for sure. I should have this mini Pro speed test up tonight. Thanks Renzo!

I have the same doubt, I have never been so indecisive in a purchase of this type haha.
My options to work in graphic design are: Mac Mini M2 with 24 GB RAM and 512 SSD or Mac Mini M2 Pro with 16 GB RAM and 512 SSD.
I will keep watching reviews and hope someone reviews the M2 with 24 in RAM.

Hey there Kris, glad the video helped out. I know the agony trying to decide on this stuff when it tacks on so much $$. If future proofing yourself and being ready to edit videos, grow with the times, i think the pro mini would be the way to go if the budget allows it. I have a maxed out version of the pro 32 gb, and it got into mac studio price territory! Should be able to see a middle ground on models a little better with the next few vids i hope. As a beginner I decided to go with the mini m2. I don't plan on using it for anything other than editing videos from my insta 360 x3. I think it'll be fine especially with a couple external hard drives. What do you think?
Hey there Rob, I think the mini M2 is a great choice for a beginner editor, especially with X3 footage (I have one of those also). These M2 chips are pretty powerful and the price is right to get you your editing chops. When it's time for bigger projects, effects, and many tracks, you will be ready for Apples new chips since they are dropping every year. Finally someone using Premiere! I MUST use Adobe products for work..so..this M2 Mac mini is a little better than the original m1 mac mini? or is the M2 really much better than the M1? I could get a M1 mac mini used for a lot less than new. I can't afford a Mac Studio for video editing and I won't pay that much for a M2 pro mac mini...so...has premiere now been really optimized for the M1/M2 processor? or is FCP X the way to go? I just prefer Premiere for sure...can this edit 4k 30/60 and 1080p60 without problems? I use a Sony FX30 using XAVC S at no more than 200Mbps. My projects range from 5 minutes to90 minutes . usually 4k to 1080p... or am I delusional thinking I can edit ok with a M1 mac mini (16GB ram and 512 SSD) and I need a M2 upgraded or a M32 pro or a Mac studio? thanks
Hey there Erick, I made a few shorts on the base model today and it did fairly well at keeping up. There were some jumpy spots and that might just be premiere acting up, but got the job done no problem. A lot of what you are paying for is the end render time and exports, revisions, wash and repeat, it can save you a lot of time having those speedy exports. These M2 chips are all hanging pretty tough these days and will definitely handle some light editing and projects 5-90 min no problem, but they definitely make us pay to play for that nice editing rig loaded with RAM. Good luck in the decision making, should have another vid on the mini Pro up this weekend, its up in Mac Studio price territory when loaded up, so might definitely another option to consider. @@TheFloodLightShow yep...upgrading RAM etc can get pretty pricey...this is why I'm considering getting a used M1 Mac Mini with 16GB RAM and 512SSD...A used one could be 40% of the cost of a Mac Studio...and 50% of the cost of a M2 pro base. the M2pro looks interesting but it gets close to Mac Studio base prices...you think it will cut 4k30/60 ok? even with Premere? Never mind FCP X..not for me...I guess Premiere has come a long way over the last year. I hope so....thanks!
If you are not a professional video editor, but an amateur video editor, buy the 16-512, I am now very torn typec docking station shopping. The price is cheap, the transfer speed and security is not good, the price is too high beyond my budget

Hi, I have a question. I have a mid-2011 iMac that I'm using for creating my CZcams videos and it works well for nearly all of my videos. I have 24gb of memory installed. Since our videos have gotten better we now include drone footage for many of our adventure videos. The drone footage lags SO much when I'm trying to edit it. This makes me think I should maybe upgrade. Someone recommended the M2 mini and I like that idea since I have the iMac and already have the keyboard and mouse. When I watch your video it seems to just FLY compared to mine when I edit. Why would that be if it only has 8gm of memory? Also, I'm using iMovie but no one is demonstrating iMovie with the mini. Does the mini have the option of using iMovie like my iMac does? Thank you and I enjoyed your video, it was very nicely made and very helpful!
The drone video probably lags because the codec is not hardware accelerated since your iMac is so old.

@@WayIntoAdventures Yeah that will most likely fix all the issues with lagging. The 8Gb is plenty enough for basic video and photo editing if you don't multitask.
It will only fall apart if you start adding multiple apps and browser tabs to the background and especially different plugins for video editing software will fill up the memory quickly.
Hey there Way Into! Big props for keeping that 2011 imac running, I had a 2012 version and know the pain of dreaded Lag for exports. If the budget is there you could pick up any M series chip machine and it would impress with the speed, I was blown away when I got the M1 chip for editing. 4K drone footage works great on the M2 mini, all editing really. Like Minsetti mentions, its when you start pulling from the Ram with other things it starts to show. So beef up that RAM if you can. Might be good for you to check out the M2 Pro mini since you may be keeping it for so long. I try to just buy the best when its time, future proof myself a bit. Good luck with the decision! TLDR: pro has more gpu but is pretty much the same cpu wise so depends on what you do
the only real difference in the pro and standard model is that it has more gpu cores and more space for more unified memory but thats about it. For single threaded operations you wont see any improvement and a slight boost in multi threaded performance. were you get the most increase in performance is in the gpu.
Just got the Mini Pro in, going to test it out this weekend but I would think the pro with its extra cores will help overall. I just got my basemodel mac mini m2 yesterday and it kicks my old hackimtosh workstations but big time if you consider it has lots of ram and a gtx 1080 12 gig in it. I paid more for that videocard alone than for the mac mini. The rest of the hardware exluding the monitors doubles that price so it is pretty much bang for the buck if you compare. The mac mini m2 might be slower than the m1 model but it is cheaper so you get what you pay for. Though the m2 works good with Davinci Resolve it has a hard time finding my Iphone and my online bank where I pay my bills. It says there are safety problems in Safari, Chrome and Firefox but Chrome and Firefox "healed" themselves after a while which is realy strange.still no go with Safari though. I am in Sweden and my bank is one of the bigger banks over here. So it is mixed feelings but hopefully since the mini m2 is new things will work out over time.

The real life testing is when you work not just run a speed test. I gues MacMini 8Gb just bleed out when you open 2 browser with windows, Ps,Ai and Ae use same times with open Skype, Viber, Tidal or some music player, and an e-mail client ect... As usual with everyone who work and use normal.... Entry level mini with 8Gb Ram sounds very good with the price but because of RAM the nice numbers fall down quick when other programs run in the sam etime..

But the base model is really just entry level, after more power is needed for the user the price is similar to other big players. Especially since you need a monitor keyboard and mouse. That's something to consider. Overall, the entry level has been very good, and the more expensive models are the same or slightly more expensive than the M1 machines. I think anyone with an M1 should definitely wait for the M3 generation. Thank you your work BTW :)

Great Video. I'm considering purchasing an M2 specifically as an upgrade to my old pc for Davinci Resolve exports. I'm usually hovering around 40fps render speed for 4K 60FPS -> 1080P export. That is using h264 and Davinci Free so no hardware acceleration. Before I salivate about the speeds you achieved with the Mini. Can you confirm the FPS of the original file and if you are on Davinci Studio or using hardware acceleration? Trying to translate apples to apples no pun intended.

Am I the only one that does multi tasking while running various programs? Because M2 NAND’s have been compromised - all this benchmarks are not accurate when doing a real world work flow- and read write speeds have been cut in almost half with new M2’s
The basemodell is impressive for the picetag, but dont get fooled for real on time editing above 1080p. Lack of Ports, lack of renderpower on cpu und gpu cores....get the Pro modell right away or if the price tag hits the m1,m2 max range, get a macstudio instead. I kind of regret the purchase of the m2 16gb modell for our editing company, significantly slower working experience.

@@Teluric2 Intel processors are stable and better than AMD, but compared to apple Silicon processors plus wattage the majority of Intel processors (with few exception) are bad and not faster than M1 series an M2 Series, except I9 13900K (this is the best cpu on X86 System now)keep in mind that this Intel processor uses high power rated at 253W.
You had me until you said Premiere.... nobody but nobody in their right mind would go near that dinosaur with a Mac when you can get Final Cut for a few hundred bucks FOREVER. And don't even begin to tell me that Final Cut is not vastly superior and many times faster than the clunky PC tool from Adobe. As for Da Vinci it is free or again just a few hundred bucks for the full version but it can be clunky slow and complicated and too hard to use 'cos ya need a university degree or three in editing, sound production and color grading before you even start to get the full benefit from it. Get Final Cut and you will see that the Mac mini is blindly fast.
