    Outstanding! Nice to see such a clean proflex in HD lol. Even if it’s missing the Girvin stem, still amazing, great job

    What a beauty of bicycle! I'd like to make a full service on one of this... and maybe upgrade the rear suspension with an air.
    The next video i'll watch is the one on the 752. Thanks!

    Great video! I remember how ProFlex was the hot bike in the 90’s. I fulfilled a dream and just resto-modded a ProFlex Beast. Other than the proprietary cable stops, the build and the ride is absolutely fantastic. That’s a great looking bike, especially with the sexy black LX groupset. Definitely a bike to be proud of.

  • @red_dread
    @red_dread Před 2 lety +2

    Glorious. The paint and decal work are especially worthy of respect, and my favourite part has to be the pressing of the pivot bushings. I haven't had time to watch restoration films for ages, let alone make any, and the half-finished projects in my workshop are piling up. This has inspired me to get back on it.

    OMG...that crazy brake pivot thing. How to make cantilevers more complicated. Awesome and ty!

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  Před 2 lety

      Haha yeah it's a little wacky. Takes a bit of power away from the canti's too I believe.

    • @samblenkharn8099
      @samblenkharn8099 Před rokem

      Yeah where did you even find that pivot thing?! It looks like such a niche part.

  • @wewillmakeit3615
    @wewillmakeit3615 Před 2 lety +4

    Square taper bbˋs shouldn't be greased. The LX cranks won't have a problem, they are very tough. But if you use RaceFace or other "boutique" Aluminium cranks of that era, you will overtighten them and they might widen or crack at the taper. The reason is, that the same torque will make the cranks glide onto the bb axle further if grease is used.
    Great job on the rest if the bike. Looks really neat. And the paint job looks very good!

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  Před 2 lety

      Yeah I know. I've never greased them before. BUT. I've had a nightmare with M560 cranks specifically "seizing" on to the axle and developing weak extractor threads. A bit of grease won't hurt them.

    I would really love to know how long those elastomers will last. I recently did a bike build and the elastomers just disintegrated in my hands. The bike (at least for now) looks amazing! Especially good job on the paintwork.

    • @wewillmakeit3615
      @wewillmakeit3615 Před 2 lety

      They will be good for 5 to 10 Years, depending on the climate and how much sun and frost they are exposed to.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  Před 2 lety

      Ah damn. Sounds like the elastomer I had on the Vector I used for my 853. Crumbled away and then melted in the sun on my drive.

  • @davidrobinson9507
    @davidrobinson9507 Před 2 lety

    I worked at a bike shop in Toronto, called Duke's Cycle. We sold those pro flex bikes, one of our young racers used one in the then-arising sport of mountain bike racing, which Duke's got into in 1986, after being involved in BMX.
    I always wanted to try a pro flex bike.
    I loved the approach to the suspension. I have no idea what the plusses or minuses would be. Maybe, softer descents on downhill single track?
    Loss of energy while climbing?

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  Před 2 lety

      Well I've done a bit of filming with one of my other Proflex to show the elastomers in action so once I review that, I guess we can work that out!

  • @BruceChastain
    @BruceChastain Před 2 lety

    looks like you didn't use any sort of protection for the front derailleur, where it clamps onto the frame. I'm building up a bike now and was thinking on if I want to try to protect it or not. Would be interested in your thoughts.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  Před 2 lety

      Just to protect the paint from the clamp? I guess you could but some of those clamp tolerances are tight and using a rubber strip or something might mean you have to step up to the next band size maybe.

    how much does that rear isolator squish? Can you feel it while riding?

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  Před 2 lety +1

      Without filming it.... I couldn't say. It's a "firm" elastomer. I did film the workings of the 752 the other day though and should be releasing that next week. I can't say I felt the rear but it was definitely moving. Especially when pedaling.

    • @MonkeyShred

      The original decals? No they weren’t that bad but the paint was. The chainstay decals were pretty bad though. Yup. Decals from Retrodecals.
