- A good guide on how to replace the axle on a 2014-2019 VW Beetle driver side. Probably similar to the passenger side.

roadside rescue, automotive technician, mobile mechanic, roadside mechanic - Auta a dopravní prostředky
very tough roadside repair
That was a fine display of pry bar skilz. Job well done!
Haha thank you!
Love the reverse pry bar technique.
Top notch camera angles and lighting, very impressive! Also really enjoyed seeing VW content.
Next time you have a stuck axle use a cheap ratcheting strap from harbor freight stuff it back behind the caller as you wrap it around it run the end out along the side of the car tie the strap around a sledgehammer and swing it like a golf ...club... I had to do that on a 2006 Nissan Altima... With a 36 Oz Sledge it still took me 11 swings... Was about to go buy a heavier one and it popped free
I love your channel 😁😁....I was wishing I could reach thru the screen to help hold down that control arm for ya lol. I've done that job so many times and always wished the Lord gave me 3 or 4 hands at that point. Keep up the awesome work 🇨🇦😁
Recommend getting OTC 6007 Lower Control Arm Prying Tool.
Do you have problems buying parts that turn out to be bad out of the box or a lot of warranty claims costing you time and money .if so what percent of parts.
Nice job. I use a vise grip attachment for my slide hammer when the axles come apart like that.
I remember when my cv axle broke in my Camry thought it was my transmission !
That's a job well done.
Great video. You need one of those mics that nest into beards.
I use a sledge hammer shaft to push the control arm down, that way you can put it under the body with out damaging the bodywork under the sill.
Some video of a guy that actually welded a vice grip to the end of a slide hammer and would grab the end of that metal thing to pop them out may work for you
When you can't get an axle out - it helps to keep turning the shaft 90 degrees at a time - it helps the clip move around and release much easier...
✅ that's a job well done
They make slide hammer adaptors for channelocks so you can attach the channelock and use the slide hammer to to take out whatever part needed. Works great.
Ooo. I need that
Awesome!
Thanks!
these are the worst in the midwest spent 2 days tryna get one out of an automatic jetta 😂😂😂
Ive had bad luck with aftermarket axles, so only oem or oem rebuilt it is
if you can make top 10 tool you most use or your favorite as a mobile mechanic
WAY TO GO , WHAT DO YOU CHARGE PER HOUR?
What up Ernest a what is your go to belt brand for honda when replacing either the timing belt or the serpentine belt ?
So! I have a Golf MK4 which and the beetle is on the same platform.
My left side axel broke because the shackle that holds the rubber boot over the joint parted ways (on both sides, we will come to that later), water got into the rubber and the retaining clip that held the axle in the joint rusted away. Meaning, the axel slipped out at some point and ate some of the teeth of the axle.
So, the left axle is full body. I just bought a new one amd installed it.
Since I suspected the same to happen to the right side, I bought a right side axle and it came full bodied instead of hollow. So it was vibrating. Had to send it back and basically, you can't find them in hollow. So I had to search for the right boot and every shop was sending me the wrong part, intil, after weeks of discussions I got the right one and rebuilt that right side axel.
Kinda incredible how much effort had to go into such a simple repair.
check your lower ball joint...2 out of 3 bolts I guess work for VW beetles..watch your video ,,you will see, thanx
He got all three tightened. What did you see that wasn't right?
Axles are the one thing I will not use aftermarket.. All the parts, especially axles are total junk
I found it better to remove the axle bolt before taking off the lug nuts and the bolt is a torque to yield on my 2013 bug and they are only a few bucks from the dealer.
Torque to yeild reused god knows how many and they just get sent with the impact and never had a problem 😂
I know you have mentioned this before about no rust being on the cars but you do get snow off the mountain where you live at correct? H 5:37 ow do they melt it Is on the roadways without salt? I live in Ohio
plows. Some salt but rarely. Maybe a couple of times a winter.
How much cheaper are you compared to a shop?
probably 15% on average. Sometimes too much
He is probably cheaper then most shops. However, honestly, nowadays when a ton of shops have decided its best to rip people off. Having a honest mechanic counts a lot more. Hell I seen CZcams mechanics on here, try to justify ripping off customers and their fanboys agree. So I may not know about his pricing, but Roadside Rescue seems like an honest mechanic.
If you just undo the sway bar end link the control arm will just fall down out of the way so you don’t have to struggle trying to pull it down out of the way when you’re trying to install the new axle. Hope this will help save you time and energy the next time. 👍 keep up the good work
No it won't. End links are connected to the strut on one end and the sway bar on the other. No connection to the control arm. Disconnecting an end link would have made no difference.
Where were you at when he was spending money going to auto school? all that money 😂
Where was all these subscribers with comments at when you were spending money💲 in auto school learning to do this auto mechanics? I mean all you had to do was just go out there and subscribers would have told you how to do it and what tool.😅
I went to vocational tech and they don't tech enough tips/tricks with every make/model out there at the one year time frame.
Just basic knowledge back then @@rodneyconaway1600
With the Internet, everyone can now use Google search, car forums, and CZcams University to learn things 😅
How much a job like this cost?
250-300 probably
Man that is got to be hard on your body.
Yeah Hope to get a shop one day and make things a bit easier. But gotta do what I gotta do for now!
AutoZone parts r junk and O'Reilly's too just get oem parts
Customers with cars like this one are not going to pay $600 for the axle. The Chinese made ones are hit and miss. I put a Chinese made Detroit Axle one on my daughter's Focus and it has held up well. But many cheap ones do fail early.
@@stevemccooleqoh I didn't know Detroit axle sold out as well... The good thing about them is they'll back these chinesium parts with a decent warranty
Son's 2007 Mazda 3 with front complete struts and sway bar end links, for example, 10 year warranty
With the age of this car, I don't mind the price vs an OEM supplier for this type of parts
Electronic stuff, definitely OEM if available 👍
@@stevemccooleq exactly I always like how some posters spend other people's money.... All you have to do is use one with the longest warranty you can get and they tend to be a little bit better quality...
