    The annual high jump compilation of the season is OUT. Here's what mainly happened this year in both men and women's.
    Though the year was the lowest season for the men's, Mutaz Essa Barshim reigned supreme with a world-leading 2.40 and the world title in London, also remaining unbeaten all season.
    In the women's, the same dominance was shown by Russia's ANA Mariya Lasitskene (née Kuchina) who also remained unbeaten the whole season, winning both the world title and the Diamond League Trophy, as Barshim.
    I also dedicate this video to olympic and 4x european champion Ruth Beitia who just retired some days ago. The retirement motivated me to do the video sooner. It needed to pay tribute to the best Spanish athlete of all time. Beitia won 15 international medals!
    6 european indoors, 3 european outdoors, 4 world indoors, 1 world outdoors and 1 olympic medal.

    Levchencko's moment at 7:01 - 7:10 is so touching! As though breaking above 2.00 m was her Holy Graal, her fulfillment, and now a new world opens up, made of pure enjoyment. Thanks !

    Nice compile. Great to see Barshim back to something approximating his best. I was rapt to see Ghazal get a medal in London. He's earned it. And Nedasekau...wow, 2.33 as a junior! Didn't get to see Levchenko get 1.99 in London. The silly camera angle they used for her 2.01 jump spoils it for me. But for all that, her reaction after getting 1.94 at the European indoors was probably the best thing I saw this year. What a champ Mariya Lasitskene is turning into. She's just getting better.

      @worldofhighjump  Před 6 lety

      TheThirdMan What I just find pity for Barshim is not to have tried the WR this year. At least once would have been great but he listens to his body and with no major competitions outdoors next year, it will be lit!! Lasitskene is the queen of high jump as we had Vlasic 7-10 years ago and I hope she'll get her chance to the WR

    • @worldofhighjump
      @worldofhighjump  Před 6 lety

      TheThirdMan Levchenko has a huge improvement. from 1.94 to 2.01 in a year is crazy, she does it when it counts!

    • @worldofhighjump
      @worldofhighjump  Před 6 lety

      Right for Barshim. I guess it's a post-olympic year so the level is low, I feel like we're going back to the wasted years such as 2008 to 2011, that was really low... And Levchenko indeed, but she still also suffers to her knee so I hope it won't be a problem in the future.
      What's your predictions for Birmingham 2018?

    • @thethirdman225
      @thethirdman225 Před 6 lety

      Gee, I don't know. As far as the women are concerned, as long as Lasitskene stays injury-free, it's hard to imagine anyone stopping her. 2018 could be her best year. I'm expecting to see more of Vashti Cunningham as she continues to improve. She's still very young. For the men, I think Barshim is showing the kind of form that will probably keep him ahead of the field for most of the season but Derek Drouin was out all last season with an Achilles injury and hopefully we'll see him back. Some of those new guys look pretty promising, especially Nedasekau. What do you think?

      America and europe and asia needs some real competition.
      they are afraid Maria and other dominant non doping russians will win all of the Gold, and also to punish russia for their military and for banning LGBT propaganda at the Moscow olympics.

    • @ika5666

      @@Tigerex966 The point is that Russian state structures have been heavily involved both in promoting and concealing the doping, and the sport has been used by Russia to promote its imperialistic antihuman state of KGB mafia. So the state-sponsored structures and their puppet sportsmen are not allowed to spoil the Olympic standards anymore. Sounds good and just to me, while your reasoning sounds like a standard Russia Today/Sputnik Putin-propaganda.

    Two impressions about the picture at the very end of the video: 1) I think we're thinking at Gold, Medal, and Silver in the next Olympic games in that picture; 2) Yuliya Levchenko is very photogenic and she looks great in just about any picture taken of her; but Mariya Lasistskene is usually very serious when she is concentrating before and ever after most jumps, so there are not many shots of her smiling in a relaxed attitude like this picture. She's a very attractive woman too.
