Another epic year for men's high jumping, with an unprecedented total of six athletes clearing the mythical 2.40m mark in a calendar year. To put that in perspective, from 1996 until 2012, only three men cleared 2.40m, each of them on just one occasion. That's merely three 2.40m jumps in 17 years. Since Barshim cleared 2.40m in 2013 at the Prefontaine Classic, a total of six men have cleared at least 2.40m on 22 occasions! That well and truly signals a new and long-awaited golden era in men's high jump. One feels that the WR is very vulnerable and could fall if Barshim or Bondarenko jump well on the right day.
In 2014...
MUTAZ ESSA BARSHIM cleared over 2.40m in four competitions, his highest being 2.43m in Brussels which made him the outright 2nd highest jumper of all time. His 2.42m jump in New York was the highest losing effort ever in a high jump competition.
BOHDAN BONDARENKO jumped over 2.40m in five competitions, his highest at 2.42m. He now holds the European record alongside former WR holder, Patrik Sjoberg.
IVAN UKHOV had four efforts over 2.40m (3 x indoor and 1 x outdoor) in 2014. His 2.42m jump in Prague equaled Carlo Thraenhardt's European indoor record.
DEREK DROUIN cleared 2.40m once to set a new Canadian record.
ALEKSEY DMITRIK jumped 2.40m indoors at Arnstadt and finished second to Ivan Ukhov. It was the first time that two athletes had cleared 2.40m in the same competition.
ANDRIY PROTSENKO cleared the 2.40m barrier in Lausanne, however still finished second to compatriot Bohdan Bondareko.

Derek Drouin is probably the purest and cleanest form jumper of anyone I've ever seen since Sotomayor. But holy crap has Mutaz Barshim got mad freaking hops and his flexibility is superior to anyone on this list.
