    COIL WHINE TEST: czcams.com/video/c2iFIfK4WIw/video.html
    FAN NOISE TEST: czcams.com/video/2jdMkrtIWGA/video.html
    So I left these out of the review video but you can watch these tests in seperate videos over here.
    While I did notice coil whine on the SCAR 18 I only noticed it a couple of times and only in the SILENT operating mode which limits your framerate to very low levels.
    The noise was 0db while in Windows as fans are not spinning at all with light workload and when gaming it is on bar with any other powerful gaming laptops out there in terms of noise, but here you can choose to play games eighter in Silent, Performance or Turbo operating mode. Check the videos to learn more and even see what the FPS does in different modes.

      Hi TheTanelChannel!
      Thank you for your Review and details!
      About The Whine Coil I would like to ask you if you could test the same I'm showing in the video:
      czcams.com/video/DQ9Q3r3uu5k/video.html
      It is using Blender, Gpu mode on and interactive render in the viewport. When you move the 3D scene.
      Then having the Scar 18 since 5 days I confirm all your points!!
      Waiting for your reply,
      Thank you again!!

      @@gmarte82m Hey, as I stated, the coil whine is only audiable in SILENT operating mode where the GPU and CPU speed is limited. Turn it on PERF mode and it should go away. Sometimes it went away even in SILENT mode. I dont know how to use Blender, not a 3D modeler.

    This is an awesome review, thanks Tanel. Could you share your thoughts on the Coil Whine? Perhaps make a small video showcasing it and some methods to reduce it? Given you've not mentioned it, it must not be as bad as people have been saying?

    • @TheTanelChannel
      @TheTanelChannel  Před rokem +1

      Hey!! I actually had a CRAZY coilwhine experience :D and even filmed it.. BUT decided not to add it in the video BECAUSE it was just one time for me.. and only when using the SILENT operating mode in games, which you would never really do.. when I used PERF or TURBO mode.. the coil whine was gone 100%.. and the fans were loud enough that you wouldnt pick it up that much. But if you really need to hear it here is the clip of that, you can hear the laptop is in SILENT mode, also again, sometimes it was there in SILENT MODE and sometimes it wasnt.. anyway 99% of the time I tested the thing in games, in Windows, no coilwhine at all.

    The reason your desktop 4080 beats out the 4090m in Port Royal is quite simple, they are both the same exact GPU die and memory with one key difference; power limit the desktop variant pulls a whopping 375W iirc which is more than double that of the mobile variant

  • @unknownmonkey8661
    @unknownmonkey8661 Před rokem +3

    The problem of hitting 100C is not a possible hardware failure, but the thermal throttling. For this and maybe next year the power margin of current top-end laptops may get away with this, but as graphics and tech in games evolve and cooling system compounds wear off, you'll feel throttling more and more. That's the sad truth of laptops, can't escape physics :(
    Also hate how manufacturers advertise liquid metal as a good thing. Thermals are still terrible, but now you can't just repaste it yourself withing few minutes to make it better. Darn, not every PC repairs shop will be able to properly clean and replace liquid metal without damaging your laptop.

    • @TheTanelChannel
      @TheTanelChannel  Před rokem +1

      Pretty sure liquid metal does not deteriorate over time so you never need to "repaste" it and even with regular paste.. Ive never had to repaste a laptop but then again Ive never used a laptop as a main PC for more then a few months. Also if you look at the AVERAGE temps, they stayed around 80c.. so peaking here or there to 100c might not be that major of an issue.

    • @mistahcahawking
      @mistahcahawking Před rokem

      @@TheTanelChannelyou are correct in it not deteriorating, however being liquid it will for most people leak out over time

    Great vid, keep up the good work.
    1 small thing. You say "almost 400 fps in CSGO".
    CSGO is capped to 400 fps by default. Because of some engine quirks that ends up in 370-380 fps. My old Scar 17 ran CSGO above that on max settings. So just type "fps_max 0" in the console for your next review and you're golden!

    This laptop is my top choice but there is one more option, Eluktronics mech 17 with liquid cooling.
    Asus is a bit better and nicer looking, but coal whine is a bit of worrying they say it might even go worse over time and Eluktronics has better cooling with the liquid cooler, what do you think? Appreciate your opinion.

    • @TheTanelChannel
      @TheTanelChannel  Před rokem +1

      The SCAR 18 has no issues with heat, the chassis is just slightly warm to touch. The Eluktronics is interesting but a bit of an hustle to carry your watercooling pump and radiator with you all the time and it aint much of a laptop then. No idea how good the build quality is on that thing eighter.

    Noise Level is Important for me. You have DB number for different Performance Modes?

    • @Blue-Lady
      @Blue-Lady Před rokem

      Apparently it reaches up to 55.6 at its loudest under full load. And is roughly 36db during quiet mode. But might be roughly 48-53 during normal use during performance I'd say..

    • @TheTanelChannel
      @TheTanelChannel  Před rokem

      I dont and my PG65UQ fan is super loud in the background.. but yeah I could do it in the other room in the future.
      I think you can find the db in someone elses review right now, but yeah in short, the SILENT mode was a passive mode if temps were under 60c.. so watching CZcams videos, browsing the web.. it is actually 0db in 22c room.
      You can still play games on SILENT operating mode, then fans make very little noise then but you have a lot less FPS.
      In TURBO yeah it was pretty loud but nothing crazy considering 24core cpu and 4090.

      you weren't paying attention, 100C is the max on CPU ring. And it's not operationg temperature, it's a brief max. See average column.
      As for GPU - Nvidia GPUs won't let themselves go above 87C - they throttle. Even constantly having 87C on GPU means cooling system is almost dead

      GPU was around 80c max, CPU goes to 100c in like 99% of laptops out there, its nothing new but It doesnt mean I like it.
      As I said, if the CPU temps are perfectly fine for this hardware, no throttling etc.. and the chassis feels slightly warm to touch if even that.. then I really dont see an issue raging about how high a number in your laptop is.
