Will a car seat fit in Sierra | Silverado double cab?
Vložit
- čas přidán 11. 10. 2018
- Hey guys & gals, I own a 2018 GMC Sierra double cab 4x4 z71 and have two kids. Being in the automotive industry I get the question a lot, is a double cab sierra or silverado big enough to fit car seats? I tried to give you my best answer of course it's all personal preference. There is a big price difference between the too, if you are using the truck like me i would recommend checking out this option.

Thank you for doing this video. This is the exact question I had.
Heard that a lot good luck!
Cody, thanks for the video. I legitimately bought a 2019 Silverado 1500 because of your video, lol. We took it for a test drive. Got in the office and talked about the size of the seating in the back. We were looking on the forums that we quickly searched for and then your video proved that her car would be the primary vehicle with our first born, and my truck could be used for short trips with the three of us, or just the baby and myself. I know you didn't intend for your video to have that much power, BUT IT DID. Thanks for content and honesty in your review!
Things have changed a lot since I made this video but I feel like we are of the same people lol. Thanks man, I'm really glad this video helped!
I put the infant rear facing in the middle and the front facing behind the passenger. Seems to be the best setup. Give it a try!
I have the same truck. Isn’t it a little wobbly when you put the car seat in the middle do to the bench tapering down?(for infant seats)
So this is what Max Headroom has been up too. Thanks for the video. Its helped me consider my next purchase. I currently own a Crew Cab vehicle but looking to upgrade.
Brilliant video and with three boys this is very relevant. Truck dreaming 🙌🏼
That would be tough!
Dude u just save me from buying an double cab I have three girls thanks my mans
Going to need more for 3, that’s for sure! Glad I could help
Of course they'll fit. We used to stuff em in tiny ex cabs in the 90's
This is true! my parents had a s10 we stuffed in the backed lol
Your video doesn't promote anything but the truth. Thankyou for uploading.
Truth is, you’re the real MVP for watching and commenting!
Thanks for the video. Saved me time from including the Crew Cab in my search. A great fit for some but I appreciated the help from the video.
Glad it helped!!
Thank you for this video. I'm upgrading to a new truck and needed to know if my daughter's rear facing seat would fit. This saves us the time of going to look at the dealership. This will be my primary vehicle. Crew cab it is like my current quad cab Dakota
Great video. I loved my 2014 gmc sierra but hated that it was a double cab due to a growing family.
I recently sold it for top dollar due to this insane car market. So it was a win win for me. Next up is nothing short of a crew cab
I have the same exact truck and most likely making the same move; what’d you end up getting?
I not only managed this in a smaller access cab, it also had clam shell doors.
Thanks! I was wondering the same thing just the other day because I have two toddler boys but I want a full size, long bed truck to fit in my garage.
Hey! Glad this video helped!
I regret buying a double cab hoping things will be better once my 2 kids are out of their car seats and I lose that regret
Thanks Cody very helpful👍🏼 going for the Crew Cab thanks.
Awesome man! Glad I could help, good luck!
Great video!.. i have a 6 yrs old and year old. I think ima go with the crew cab. Even tho the double cabs are cheaper.
Thanks!!! If you can make it happen I’d highly suggest. The double cab is tight to say the least, I’m just fortunate to not have to have them in there very often. Are you looking at a new one?
How do you get the seat to fit tight enough so that it’s not wobbly ? We can turn our seat almost over.
How come the GMC always keeps the same grill the whole generation but Chevy always gets a midlife cycle facelift very strange
I have the same issue lol have a girl about your age and an 8 months old , but like u said only use it once in a while no big deal would recommend the crew cab tho , good video tho wish I would of seen this before I bought the truck lol
I just got a 2018 elevation double cab and I think booster seats and toddler seats are fine, plenty of room for my 3 yr olds feet. I wouldn’t try a full size baby seat though. It’d be a pretty tight fit.
Just took my twins to the doctor’s on Friday. They are two weeks old and I took my doublecab pickup. Right fit does not begin to describe the leg room I had.
Great video, thank you! I have a newborn and I think it will be suffice
Great video! Thanks for posting.
Great information thanks to small for me will go with the crew cab thanks
Glad I could help, Best of luck Kenneth
Good video. Just to complete all typical scenarios for your video, you should have also shown how a normal size adult say 5'5" for a woman and 5'9" for a man would fit in the back seats. I know many people would have wished you had answered that question as well.
Was wondering the same thing thanks for the video!
the seat that you're older daughter is in - did you ever have it rear facing? if so, how did you find the spacing?
Wow cool thanks I was ready to buy the truck these weekend thanks for the video I double cab is out my kids are even big 12 and 2 so crew cab have to be now maybe don’t go to be gmc maybe ram
What did you get Mr.Tarzan
I got the ram bighorn crew cab hemi 2019
When I was shopping I tried to fit the car seat behind the seat and the double cab but I was such in a rush I didn't even move the seat forward I could have probably jammed it in I ended up with the crew cab cuz it was just easy You just throw it in You're not getting kicked in the back by your kids all day I mean you're still going but not as bad
Man.. I know I’ve aged when I’m watching videos on if car seats fit in the back of trucks in considering 😂
no doubt - heard that.
When your kids get bigger do you see yourself upgrading to a crew cab in the future?
I don’t know, I think it will depend, if we are still using the truck as a secondary vehicle I think I would still be okay with sacrificing the space to save the money. For occasional trips to the grocery store or around town I think we will still believe that the cost outways having the extra space.
If the kids were getting in it everyday and we were going further than a couple of miles I think then we would have to upgrade.
Hope this helps!
I am on the Market for a new truck and the new 2019 gmc sierra is on the list of possible trucks. Then, it is Ford and Ram all are 1500 pickups. Trying to decide if I should get a crew cab or a double cab. If you have time could you do an 2019 SLE trim of the gmc sierra 1500?
I have a 2019 limited SLE Texas edition on my channel here is the link...

I don’t have any new body style Double Cabs yet but as soon as we get one you know I’ll be dropping a video on it!
Funny we just got an SLE in today, I’ll have a video drop in it Saturday!
Do you know how long I’ve been looking for a video just like this? Could a passenger fit in the front seat with the rear facing convertible car seat in the back? How big of a passenger could fit? My wife is 5’4”. I think once your little one goes to forward facing, you are fine with the double cab. Supposedly the 2019 double cab gains a little over half an inch rear leg room, would that be a significant difference in your opinion?
+ScoobyFermentation I don’t know how I missed your comment man I’m sorry.. my wife is short short also even for her she seems to be slammed against the dash, an inch improvement would be good but I honestly do not think that would make much of a difference. Once we get a double cab in I’ll test it out. Like I said in the video it really just depends what you use it for, ya know? My truck isn’t the family truck as we take the terrain for trips / outings.. if you are in a similar situation I’d say to do what I did, listen to a little bit of complaining and save the money... thanks for watching I’m glad you found it helpful!
Cody Reed Thanks for the response. I’m basically in your exact same situation. It would be my daily driver to and from work plus I have to pick up the kids from daycare and eventually school. Obviously, the car seat size makes a difference, but the car seats I would be transferring over from my 2005 Highlander are pretty compact. In a year or less the 3 yr old is going forward as well. We have a minivan for the road trips and weekends.
Final question for you, what are your thoughts on the 4.3 V6? You could really save some money with a double cab and base engine in the new Silverado. I’m looking at the 2019 Custom Trailboss or Custom. Thanks and as a side note, I watched your video when you purchased your truck and you were holding your daughter and it made me want to go home and give my kids a hug before they get too big. All good problems to have I suppose🙂
ScoobyFermentation I would spend the extra money and get the 5.3L.. not that the V6 is a problem but more so if you ever did want to upgrade it the V6 gets its ass kicked on resale value, basically they aren’t worth nearly as much a couple of years down the road...
... the kids get big fast bro, that’s part of the reason I do these vids because it’s amazing to see the transformation in our family.. how old are yours??
Hey, Car Seat Technician here. It's not just a question of whether the kids have enough space, but whether the seats can be correctly and safely installed.
I can't see from the video whether the baby's seat is installed correctly. I realize this video is a couple years old and you're undoubtedly not using that seat any more, or at least not for that baby. There ARE car seats that can be correctly installed rear facing in this truck, but a careful selection of seats is important.
Your forward-facing seat in this truck is NOT installed correctly. And I don't mean a minor little quibble of not installed correctly. In fact, I would expect it to fail catastrophically in case of a crash the way it's in now. You may be using this for your younger child by now, so I'd encourage you to reach out to a Child Passenger Safety Technician in your area, or at least take a closer look at the manual, to get it installed right. Again, I am fairly sure it CAN be installed in this truck safely. It's just a matter of actually doing it. You've got a pretty decent-sized audience here so maybe your next video can be showing how much a CPST can help you get your kiddos safe in the car!
@Cole Meringolo I would recommend talking to a Child Passenger Safety Technician about your child's car seats. Many CPSTs are available via video conference, especially now that COVID has taken away a lot of our opportunities to do car seat clinics. The problem with this particular car seat happens to be that the seat belt is not correctly routed through the seat; but the potential number of mistakes that can be made installing a car seat are almost infinite. To find a CPST in your area, visit cert.safekids.org or try a car seat related forum such as car-seat.org or on Facebook.
You mentioned that there are seats that would fit this cab configuration, could you share what seats please as I am in the process of buying a truck in this configuration and my wife is pregnant so we will be expecting soon. Thanks!
@@chrised1115 For infant-style seats, the Chicco Keyfit usually works in most extended cabs, because it's got a fairly short footprint. For convertible style, the Graco Extend2Fit is a good go-to for having a shorter footprint. I would recommend that you visit car-seat.org or one of the car seat specific groups on Facebook and provide more details about exactly which truck you are getting, so experienced technicians can help you sort out your options. :)
@@brigala awesome, thanks much for all the help and information!
👍🏻
How tall are you? My husband is 6ft and sits pretty far back. I’m concerned an infant seat wouldn’t fit behind him or a car seat for an older child.
I'm 5'8 it will be tight!
Every year since the beginning of Chevy trucks the GMC always looked better and they're made in merica
Well You need to get a Chevy Silverado Crew Cab or a GMC Sierra Crew Cab Because Double Cabs Are Too Small And So Harder So you need to buy a crew cab or an SUV Because it’s big and easier
This is true for some..
