I have followed all of the steps to the letter yet I can’t find the rockstar folder. I even paused your video and manually typed in the directory into the Steam folder to make sure I didn’t get anything wrong, but as soon as I reach the folder with random strings of numbers, none of them are long enough, and none of them contain the rockstar launcher

Worked great thanks. For people doing this make sure you select "show hidden files" or it will drive you mad. Also despite sorting my folders the one with the rockstar launcher was still at the very bottom of the list. Always seems to be a long number starting with 4 so have a good look. On another note does anybody know how to change the install location of games? I want gta 5 on my sd card but the windows interface is only giving me c drive as an option.
I don't think I'm following the TARGER and START IN paste step correctly. Are you deleting what is pre populated first? I'm not sure what I'm missing here.
Basically, delete everything that's already in it. In the top one put the full path including the filename and extension with double quotes at the start and end. In the second one, that same again, but remove the filename and extension
The target should be pointing to the executable file itself, the start in field should just be the folder that contains that executable file. In this case the executable file is the rockstar games launcher.exe

I go to start it up and it comes up with a Error Code 18 and states “social club failed to initialize graphics device” I looked it up and possibly can find a fix but it’ll take a little bit. That is very odd. Will it let you type into a notepad and copy I from that? If not, you might just have find the characters on website and copy them from there
Ok but after installing and adding shortcuts for Rockstar launcher and GTA5 i have an issue: Running the launcher does not find the game that I have just installed, i can see the install button instead of play button. Trying to run the game shortcut (shortcuts because gta5 has 3 different EXEs and tried all 3) says that rockstar launcher is not installed. Scanned for games in launcher settings but issue persists. Am I missing something?
I think this happened to me. From what I remember, just click install, and it should quickly "install" it, I think it just indexes all the existing files and might do some direct x installation.

@malte9797 @xxmelcromxx1529 hey guys, try this: when pasting the path location DO NOT JUST PASTE! make sure to delete the whole path first and then paste your path location. Otherwise it’ll just paste into the path location already there. Let me know if this fixed your guys issue.
If you can go into /run/media and in there will be your sd card, just created a games folder in there and point Rockstar installation to the path /run/media/name of your sd card/games

Try a different version of proton, and double check the link in the properties. If there's anything wrong it'll likely be at the start or the end. Missing quotes, space, extra character, something like that
Im confused you copied file location then the next step you hit paste and all that you pasted was quotation marks. Its like you skipped a step in between. On my "target" it shows "/home/deck/downloads/Rockstar-games-launcher.exe" do i delete this and paste the file or do I paste the file at the end of that?
This is a really misleading tutorial ... you go to steamusers/desktop and you copy that .lnk file location yet you paste a totally different path !!!! WTF ???
I have an issue. I follow all the steps until we are searching for the launcher in c drive. I have tried multiple installs to different paths in c drive and can not find the launcher or rockstar folder after the install. Weirdly if i let it launch rockstar after install its fine and i am now installing RD2 but dont know if i will be able to play after it has installed. Any ideas? Ps i have hidden files ticked and all files still nothing.
If you've managed to start installing it you should be fine, but you'll then need to figure out where rockstar is installing it to, to link it to steam
Hey mate, I managed to install launcher and it ran fine and installed the game. When I go to run the game it tells me there's an error and it was unable to find the files. I downloaded the launcher to my sd card and installed the game there too as I had no room on internal memory. What exactly have I done wrong? If you could help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
You can create a symlink for the compatdata that you create at the actual location of the compatdata and let the symlink point to a folder on your sd Card. That way your Steam deck thinks your Files are stored in the internal storage but they are in fact on the sd card. That way, your shader caches are also stored on the sd Card and your internal storage doesnt go full. when then installing Rockstar Games lauchner, you can just use the standard path and it works just perfect

The on screen keyboard is really tempormental where it just doesn't let you type. Usually restarting steam/whatever program you're using, will sort it, or restarting the whole thing.

It say that I have 0 GB but i have 16 GB
When I launch the launcher, I loose all controls. Can’t pull up the key board, can’t use the cursor, nothing. Have to hard reset my Deck to fix it.
all you have to do is hold the steam button while you use the cursor

You sd card is under a different drive name, you just have to see which drive matches your sd card storage. 👍

What's the difference between the "Target" and "Start in" field I didn't get the remove the "remove the rockstar game launcher" part?
The target should be pointing to the executable file itself, the start in field should just be the folder that contains that executable file. In this case the executable file is the rockstar games launcher.exe

Not sure why you'd be going to user and desktop. You can see the full path I use at 2:56. I don't use user or desktop

Yea you could just do that, might need to change to version of Proton if it doesn't work.

I just updated to the same Proton version as you. Unfortunately, the launcher just won't start.

GE Proton 8-4 that I got working with. Should be upto to 8-11 now. I don't know about regular proton, I've not tried it

Make sure you add the quotation marks at the start and end of each line in the properties tab

take it you need a k/m coz when i try to rename the start folder the keyboard refuses to do anything and then dissapears

Install Rockstar, Find where it is, Copy path into Steam. That's literally all you have to do, there's no magic and wizardry going on here

Didn't work for me it jush dont load up press play it says loading then nothing happens
Only time I've had that happen is when I e not forced it to use proton. Check that's ticked and maybe try a different version

I used a dock a keyboard and mouse to be able to do this. It was fairly easy.

No. The DRM is through rockstar, not steam.
