One of the main arguments I’ve seen made for not having dodge and prone is that part 1 was not designed with those mechanics in mind so they would have to go back and rework a bunch of level design to make it fit in. Kind of like what they would do if it was a remake.... oh wait, it is.

    • @0x6e95

It's always hilarious to me when they mention that. Why the hell are you remaking a game if you're going to keep the gameplay completely the same? Even Demon's Souls added omnidirectional rolling and many other QoL features and that wasn't even remade by the same developer as the original game. TLOU1's gameplay was outdated when it came out and is still outdated in the remake.

This is it! You try telling people this and they just think you’re crazy. Why bother remaking something if you’re not going to improve the gameplay? Imho it has similar vibes to the Resident Evil 2 Remake system where each attachment changed the look, the function and even inventory size of the weapon in question. This system is arguably even better though, it definitely deepens the relationship you have with your weapons.

But I was extremely disappointed to find out that the gameplay was practically untouched, as it has aged (not as bad as others, but given this is a remake and not just a remaster it's disappointing this wasn't improved much). And to be honest, I wouldn't care if it were just visuals if it were at a lower price tag. But with a $70 asking price, it's absurd that the gameplay isn't modernized. Especially considering the PS4 remaster included the DLC as well, so this is a package with less content going for the price of a brand new AAA experience. It's absurd, and I hope it's not a sign of things to come with all the poor anti-consumer decisions Sony's been making lately. "All the poor anti-consumer decisions Sony has been making lately" I haven't been keeping up on anything lately so could you elaborate on that? If you ask me Sony has been making that kind of decision since the Ps4 came out. Microsoft dropped the ball hard at the launch of both last gen consoles, and in my opinion Sony stopped trying because they didn't need to anymore. Stark difference between Ps3 era Sony and Ps4 era Sony, the former they were doing everything they could to beat Microsoft and were constantly giving out store credit and birthday gifts to long term customers. The latter, they didn't need to go to that effort anymore so they stopped.
With Microsoft acknowledging they screwed up last gen and making massive strides to do better going forward, I was really hoping the competition would get Sony to start being more consumer friendly like in the Ps3 days again.

Great video! Do you think you'll ever do a critique/video of Halo Infinite?

If you own a ps5, wait for a price drop!
Yeah it looks nicer in the graphics, animations (especially the gore from part 2 is a nice touch up) and other stuff like improved workbench and accessibility options. But overall it's the same game from 2013 with no multiplayer, same gameplay same level design, and they want to charge $70?

It's just one of those things that isn't necessary. Yes, the added accessibility stuff is awesome, but as a whole it has no reason to exist beside a cash grab. Even if I personally didn't enjoy the game, technically it was practically flawless. It's kind of shameless.

It’s made only for folks like me who haven’t played longer than 20 min of the first one. But. That’s a rarity. I guess there are super fans out there but $70. Idk

Well, with TLOU2 it was painfully clear that Neil Druckman IS shameless: he got rid of the real talent at Naughty Dog so HE could get all the credit for the new game. The guy lacks the talent to come up with a new game, so a crash grab like this is the only thing he can come up with.

Implementing the gameplay mechanics of Part II into Part I would have meant they would have have to remake the environments. Part II’s mechanics were built around that games environments. Tall grass, cars and other objects to climb under etc.
If this was indeed a remake, Naughty Dog would have remade the world to fit the new mechanics. They didn’t.
