"Fear of Flying" is a cover of a Charlie Dore song recorded by George Harrison in the 80's in an acoustic version, that was played on BBC by Olivia Harrison. The version here has a studio backing added by Walrusz.
Much as I love the final Beatles' song "Now And Then", I think this would have been just as strong a candidate for the final song... would have been pretty cool if, instead of "Love Me Do", they had included this as the B-side (or even better, made both songs as a double A-side)... "Now And Then" was a great final tribute to John, and this would have been a great final tribute to George... for that matter, I'm not sure why they didn't re-work a George song too, even one of his weaker songs like "Dehra Dun" would have worked well, given the context That said, Walrusz' version itself right here is an amazing tribute to George! He nails George's slide guitar perfectly, this sounds like it could have been on Cloud 9!
This is truly amazing work! You’ve made George proud, if I can say so. :) Also, you included my favorite George moment at 2:04 ... when he’s being interviewed for his 21st birthday and he tells everyone that it’s the interviewer’s birthday too. Sweet boy. :)
I thought I'd heard just about every song by George Harrison both released and unreleased but don't recall ever hearing this before. Did it ever appear anywhere commercially available? Great song.
It's not official, it's based on a demo recording that was partially played on the BBC a couple of years ago, just guitar and vocals, and the rest has been added (with much taste) by walrusz, I guess. Great work ! Original demo there : czcams.com/video/UfFdIe0ljYw/video.html
Great job, Walrusz. As some-body else said, it is like having a new Hari single. I am wondering, have you ever thought of helping George finish his version of Dylan's Abandoned Love? It probably could use a little love and care.
I've done LOTS of original music over the last 10 years or so, thanks for the interest. Here's one I just finished a few weeks ago:czcams.com/video/Wgm_AqpBOL8/video.html
“One dream that really sticks in my mind is where an aeroplane came zoomin’ down and crashed in front of me. Your readers might have guessed that ‘cos I don’t like flyin’! Anyway, the plane crashed with a big explosion, and all the fuel flew through the air for miles away. I jumped away and lay flat on the ground to protect myself, but all this fuel was aflame, and it landed on my legs.” He had started to speak quickly, reliving the event, moment by moment. I must have looked horrified at his grisly description because he looked up and grinned: “It was all funny, though. Me legs were burnin’ but they weren’t like hurtin’! I was sort of shouting: 'Ooh, ooh, ouch!’ and things, jumpin’ about all over the place like I’d sat down on a hot stove. All the hurs on me legs were burned off and me trouser legs were in tatters. But don’t ask me how it all ended. I think I woke up after that - 'cos I was feeling a bit warm, naturally.” He walked across the room and poured himself a Coke, allowing it to trickle coolly over the chunk of ice that bobbed up and down in the glass. “Me dreams are usually a bit mad, y'know, and I also think a lot about people I know in real life. While I’m having a dream, all these people are passing through the story, or just standing by, watching. I dream about weird things, like houses with distorting mirrors in them. Or people walkin’ around with pan-lids on top of their heads. Don’t ask me why. It’s all a bit funny. Another funny thing is, I dream about holidays a lot, like Paul. I’m always recollecting the times when me mum and me dad and I would go camping. That’s always good for a laugh! 'Ere, camping works out quite cheap, y'know. The cost is next-door to nothing, specially if you’re a hitch-hiker. I remember Paul and I lasted almost three weeks on two pounds, ten shillings (seven dollars) sleepin’ in fields and things. That’s for real - 'onest! More people wanna try it.” I asked him if most of his dreams were the laugh-and-be-happy kind, and he roared out laughing at the thought. “Well,” he said as he held onto his drink, slurping it around in the glass, “…you could say some are comedies - and some are thrillers!” - Beatle Dreams, Hit Parader (1966) (Source: harrisonstories)
Harrison casually recorded a bit of this Charlie Dore song sometime in 1979. I filled it out in arrangement and instrumentation in my home studio last year.
@@walrusz Talk about an understatement! You took a minute long demo and turned it into a very believable-soubding George song. The self-titled album from '79 is my favorite album of his and this would fit perfectly on it. Amazing work, Sir.

@@walrusz Hope you've been well! Just had one more thought on TMWHHTY: Maybe its sparse composition could be joined up with the unused bridge sections from Paul's "The Song We Were Singing" home demo (where they seem like another song altogether), to give us the latter-day McCartney/Harrison co-write that never happened.
I'm thinking Somewhere in England, but it isn't an original song, it's a cover of a Charlie Dore tune. It could have helped Somewhere in England eliminate a bad tune though...
@@walrusz This song is so good, it may have saved Somewhere In England in 1980. Thus, All Those Years Ago may have been released in 1981 as just a special single due to John's death.
