  • George perfoming three numbers at VH1 show Yin & Yang in May 1997. This one was aired the day after he passed away, Nov 30 2001. This was George last public "performance", and he played three numbers by himself, "Any Road" which was unrealesed at the time, the Traveling Wilburys Vol 3 song "If You Belonged To Me" and "All Things Must Pass". Ive noticed there are no videos of all the three songs in good quality on CZcams, in just one video, so I decided to post it for all of you, enjoy!! Ps: For all the guitar players, George's guitar is tuned a half step down, so G sounds like F#

    That's me! "Guitar Lady!" What an honor it was to lend George Harrison my Martin guitar to perform spontaneously on this VH1 Music TV show... and my capo too! (see 2min 40 mark). Thanks for posting this complete video! I have a nice photo on my wall of George playing my guitar along with my only autograph from a star, signed on my tour itinerary. I was on tour and I met the lighting director at my performance in NYC and he invited me to come the next night to VH1 studios and watch an interview live-in-studio with a few other people. So I went the next night, and I just happened to be on my way to a gig, so I had my Martin D-35 guitar with me and the TV producer came over to me and asked if I wouldn't mind lending my guitar to George. Fine by me! Then they sprung this proposal on George and coerced him to play, much to his own shock and dismay, since they were there for the interview about Ravi Shankar's new album that George had produced. So he rose to the challenge and played about 3 songs and the interview concluded. A bunch of people were approaching him, so I held back and slipped into a small studio playback room with him and some producers, and also his 20-something spitting image son. I found myself standing next to George as we listened to the playback of his performance so he could okay the release of it, and he turned to me and said, "sometimes I forget I'm in the music business because I'm always in my garden at home." Then he turned back and said, "I think that take was the best ..." and I responded immediately, "Yes, it is", because I knew it already from when I watched it live; he was just like any other songwriter performer, so friendly and accepting and a little unsure. Afterwards, people were dispersing and the TV producer came to me and asked me if I'd met George and if I'd been introduced to him. I said no, so she led me down a hallway into a small room where there was George and his record label president. I was standing in front of George and she formally announced my name and presented me to him. I was ready with my pen and paper and I asked him for his autograph and I gave him a copy of my new album, "Bury the Ghost" to use to sign the paper. He looked my Cd over and expressed amazement that I'd done it all myself. He said," Wow, and you've done this album on your own, so maybe my record company can help you". Haha, the guy in the bow tie looked nervous. I was down at his office the next morning, but never heard back from him. It's a cool album too, back in '97, my second, and it was so nice to know that George had a copy of it and brought it back to his Manor in London and gave it a spin and a listen with the windows open to the garden. This is a very special memory that I enjoy to recount to friends till this day, and it's fun to put it in writing here, though it's too long I think! Now for the first time I realize that this "last live public performance by George, before his death in 2001", would not have happened if I wasn't there!? Simple Synchronicity ;) So, thanks to you for reading my ramble (!). We are all touched to be in the presence of George Harrison.

    as reluctant as he seems at first, the true musician emerges; any performer who’s ever had an unfamiliar instrument thrust into their hands and remembers most of the lyrics rises to the challenge if there’s a receptive audience; the world’s a better place that this footage exists; R.I.P. Beatle George

    My adult daughter lived with me for a few months back in 2009. I'd been given a copy of "The Concert For George" and we watched it one night. She loved The Beatles from a young age, through my influence, and also through my influence, she preferred George to the other Beatles. After we'd finished watching the movie I got out my old All Things Must Pass sheet music book that I bought in 1972 and we got two of my guitars and jammed a few of those amazing songs together. All Things Must Pass, Isn't It a Pity, Wah Wah, I'd Have You Any Time, My Sweet Lord, and a few more that I can't remember after such a long time, but I do remember really rocking out to "It Don't Come Easy" that George wrote and gave to Ringo. I don't know how she felt about that night, but I reckoned it was so special that George's music bridged the generation gap, if only for that one special evening. I've had some really heartbreaking times in my musical career and was going through one at that time in 2009. A couple of days later, I came home and she'd written "All Things Must Pass" on a sticky note and stuck it on my fridge for me.
    One day years before that I had a gig to go to and wanted to eat some chicken nuggets before I left, but didn't have time to wait for them to cook. So I left them on a tray in the oven, knowing she'd be home from school soon, while I jumped into the shower to get cleaned up as well as shave my head. I left her a note on the oven door that read . . Turn me on dead man . . at 5:00.

    I never picked up a single lick from George from a guitarist's standpoint. But I try the very best I can to be the kind of man George was. The way he befriended people outside his own sphere of influence, thereby increasing his own sphere of influence, his generosity, the way he encouraged other people to be the best they could be . . Those are the principles that guide how I treat people.

      "Best-kept secrets"??
      Did you maybe miss The Beatles, in which he was the lead guitarist? They were in fact more popular than Jesus!
      Or maybe you didn't catch any of his multi-million-selling albums?
      George was a wide open book with what he had to share, one of the most candid, outspoken & well-covered musicians of his time. You could spend days listening to his TV & radio interviews from all over the world.
      Just because McCartney's had another 20 years to keep on prattling doesn't make George a secret...
      George is arguably the solo Beatle whose music will best stand the test of time.
      Still can't figure out what you meant by "secret"... To whom?

      Of course, just as much as the beatles brought dylan to eletric, Dylan made the beatles compose better.

      Not in a way you could immediately detect and certainly not in the way that Lennon tried to go toe to toe with Bob in every way, a fool's errand by anyone's calculation.

    • @HayyimFeldman
      @HayyimFeldman Před 3 lety

      The fact that even Dylan's obvious parody of "Norwegian Wood" sounds so quintessentially Dylan, much more than Beatlesque, reveals how deeply his work had already influenced their sound (not just George), especially on Rubber Soul.

      Well something or someone convinced Bob to go electric and seeing as the year is 1965, a full year and some since Beatlemania struck, I'd bet that Bob succumbed to the hypnotic effects of "Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah" just like the rest of the planet did.
