  • Cameron McAdoo speaks on racing Jett Lawrence and specifically the 2022 Indy Supercross where Cameron was able to pass Jett for the lead.
    Cameron Mcadoo joins us after a tough couple of weeks at the office, as an unlucky crash forced him out of the SX championship. It has been quite the season though for Cam as he was once again in the hunt for the championship even after a crazy first turn incident that left him exposed, but unfazed. In this podcast we talk not only about the above, but about coming out of his shell in 2024, his rivalry with Haiden Deegan, AC's mentorship and retirement, Eli Tomac, if burnouts are a good idea after winning a race, the evolution of 4-stroke, and Supercross tracks in 2024.

    Jetts raw talent and raw speed are what sets him apart. His comfort level is way higher than the other guys. Everyone has to really stretch there comfort zone to match his speed and at that point, it’s just a matter of when they’ll make a mistake pushing it. I’ve said it 100 times already, I honestly don’t think we’ve seen Jett’s full potential yet. There were a couple races this year when he was behind and actually had to push it, and he was almost too fast. The race where he clipped Webb in the sand stands out. I don’t think even he realized how much faster he was going than Webb until he was right there. The kid is unreal

    People are always looking for some easy answer here. Jett is not doing anything unique to the other riders. When JS7 raced you could point to specific section or scrub he would do that would make him faster. The sport has elevated to the point that the top 5 guys can all go as fast as the bike and tires will allow on a given track. What makes Jett special is he can ride that pace with less effort, less mistakes and is better at adapting to what the tire is capable of on the fly.

    • @djjazzyjeff1232
      @djjazzyjeff1232 Před 29 dny +8

      I've watched a LOT of dirt racing, raced moto since I was 6, grew up at the Sprint car track etc, and from what I can tell, Jett's bike is more of an extension of his body than maybe anybody else and the result there is that he keeps his momentum up better than anybody else. The only other guy that is even kinda similar style is Kitchen. They manipulate the bike a little bit like you would with body position in a video game or something. Jett outdoors specifically has a way of never getting into the deepest part of the track and getting bogged down which keeps his momentum up. I noticed specifically at Millville going into the sand whoops, there's like 3 deep gnarly braking bumps, and he basically "skimmed" them and hopped from one to the next to the next, like a Trials rider or something. THAT is what makes him so good, Also in traditional SX whoops, he jumps in and does a wheel-tap triple instead of just getting on them "normally" like most people do. So there ARE some things that you can point to, but to be able to replicate it yourself good fkin luck! lol

    • @motofreak2772
      @motofreak2772 Před 29 dny +6

      @@djjazzyjeff1232 I’d agree that outdoors he did some unique lines that you could point to as reasons he was faster but for the most part Sexton did pick up on them. But even other riders use this hopping around the track staying out of the bumps technique and still are not the fastest.
      When you look at SX multiple guys are able to have the fastest lap, even mid race a lot of times but Jett is just able to move around on the track making passes when other guys can’t. To me that’s all coming down to sensing how much traction he has. Sexton has similar riding style and also maintains momentum but is not as good at knowing the traction limit.
      Jett has turned SX into motogp. If you are not near the limit of the tire the entire time then he will beat you. If you go over the limit you will crash. Racing has become about who can ride that edge the most.

      @@motofreak2772 Right. You maybe able to point to a thing here and there but it's being able to execute that puts him above the rest. He's also extremely efficient with him movements, and extremely well balanced. His head is more stable than the rest of the field, and again it's east to point to but to be able to DO it is very difficult. It's a bit like the , "Fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks, but the one who has practiced 1 kick 10,000 times." It's really that simple I'd say.

    It seems to me that on top of being physically fit, talented on on bike that being FOCUSSED is the key. Jett has just that edge, and another aspect that riders need to pick up. There is a ton of distractions out there and it doesn't seem to phase him at all, but being that talented on a bike without distractions = winning. There are so many guys that can get that! He's not a robot!

      100%, I'd say Cam's teammate Forkner is the opposite end of that spectrum, that dude breaks himself off ALL the time and it's always because of lack of focus, IMO. And I say that because his crash this year where he flew off onto the concrete was 100% lack of focus because I crashed that EXACT same way one time and it was focus that caused it for me, and it was like a carbon copy of his, where he thought his front tire was off the ground but it touches and yanks you off the side. Thankfully I didn't have another jump to fling me into the sky though I just slid across the ground like a crashed airplane lol.
