  • This is a great tip or those planning on lifting their GX. This advice works for both the GX470 as well as the GX460 since they share the same rear spring setup. This helped me save a FEW HUNDRED BUCKS and gave me different options for height adjustment in my rear.

    Great content man! One thing that wasn’t correct was the lift spacer and height you mentioned. Rear solid axle lifts are exactly how tall the spacer is. 1in spacer = 1 inch lift. Independent suspensions are different though and like you said, are not what they seem. For example, a 2 inch lift or leveling kit will probably use a 1 inch spacer to achieve that desired lift if the lower strut mount is located directly in the center of the lower A arm. So whatever length that extends the strut or spring downward (spacer) doubles in total height at the far lower end of the A arm (tire) 👍🏽👍🏽 not putting you out there or anything but just wanted you to know!

    Also, if you're in a hurry, you can use a standard hockey puck to convert the rear axle to a coil spring. Hockey puck, nut, bolt, washers, lower spring isolator (upper spring isolator)

    • @GXOFFROAD
      @GXOFFROAD  Před 3 lety +1

      If you look closely at some of the airbag delete kits, it resembles a hockey puck and a bolt! I'm sure this is what alot of designers based their kit off of. Now I don't know the proper threading or bolt size you need and you won't be able to figure that out unless you take out your airbag first haha. This could work if you are really pinching pennies.

    Thanks for this vid. I like that you talk clearly.
    How strong are the gx axles and beer fields?
    I come from the Jeep world and ended up replacing my axles with d44/d60 and alloy axles, Detroit’s and ctm’s to run 37’s. And sparing all that and driveshafts too.
    I don’t run the harder trails like the hammers or surprise canyon any more. Too old, so I’m thinking lifting the gx for some mild trails would take the jeeps place.

  • @10K2HVN
    @10K2HVN Před 3 lety +1

    Thing to note: the axle hits the bump stops on the frame before the axle hits these cone-shaped isolators, so you don't really need the full-cone isolators. A standard spring isolator like the Eibach kit would work just the same.

    • @GXOFFROAD
      @GXOFFROAD  Před 3 lety +1

      Yup! I wanted to note this in the video but I couldn't confirm it 100%. Note that factory bump stops are designed for airbags...not for springs so they are a bit longer.
      Therefore your axle will hit the factory bump stop before they even come close to these "cone" bumps in the spring. The Ironman 4x4 spacers also have the same slim profile that just help rest the spring. This brings me to my next video I'm recording is how to install OFF-ROAD bumpstops!

      @@GXOFFROAD will deleting the factory gx bump stops and going with aftermarket give you more travel ?

    • @10K2HVN
      @10K2HVN Před 3 lety +1

      Those frame bump stops also protect your shocks from bottoming out and destroying them, so I don't think you'll get more functional travel, but will get the possibility of smashing your shocks.
      You can go with the Dobinsons "Long Travel" ("Mid" / Medium Travel) setup for more travel, but those come with longer bump stop spacers, so they don't destroy those shocks -- and you will also need new/longer (inner) rear brake lines to safely handle the additional travel

    Got a stocked 2007 GX 470, been getting around to lifting/deleting the air suspension but not enough time to do research.
    Mainly used for everyday driving. From time to time it would see dirt/mud.
    What lift kit do you have and what do you recommend? (Better to pay more?)
    Also tires/rims recommendations?
    Also do you have a Instagram page? Would like to follow your build.

    • @GXOFFROAD
      @GXOFFROAD  Před 3 lety +3

      Sure thing. You can follow my build at @gxphan on Instagram! It all really depends on your budget and what you want to get out of your car. If you are just doing dirt/mud, fire roads, and soft trails, the best budget lifts are either from Dobinson, Eibach Pro, or Ironman nitro. You should be able to get a lift kit for under $1000. I'll be making future videos on what rims and tires I would recommend and what suspension set up you need if you go from 32s, 33s, or even 35s!

    I also have kdss. Can you tell me what spring/shocks (inches in lift) you used for front and rear?

    • @GXOFFROAD
      @GXOFFROAD  Před 3 lety +4

      For my 2005 with KDSS, I went with a 2.5 front and a 2" rear which leveled out my car. Note that the GX470 already comes with an approximate 1" rake which means the rear is 1" higher from factor than the front. For example.. if you got a 2" lift all around, it would visually look like a 2" in the front and a 3" lift in the rear. Even with KDSS, don't be afraid to go up to a lift of 3" as I know another GX that has done the same with no issues. Keep in mind you will be needing to be upgraded UCA if you go anything past 2.5" lift. I ended up going with Ironman foam cell pro because it was priced very well considering the performance I get from it. So far... been very happy with the purchase. Be sure to subscribe as I'll be doing a video review on the lift-sharing my experience from local roads, highway, mountain driving, and off-road performance! Hope this helps!

      If the rear suspension was independent then yes. But the rear on the GX is a solid axle so it doesn't. The front is a different story.

      My 2013 460 Premium dash display says "Check Air Suspension" 24/7 after the air bag delete and lift installed. I've read up on it to install washers between the bolt and body on the rear height sensors on both sides. Did that and still getting the message on my display. I'm trying to figure out any other way to trick the computer but to no avail so far. Searched and searched online, too. Any input from others here would be welcome!!!

    How does the GX drive after the suspension lift? Is it still a smooth ride? What was the difference you saw in gas mileage?

    • @GXOFFROAD
      @GXOFFROAD  Před 3 lety +3

      I love the ride on my Ironman Foam Cell pro. To me anything suspension that can ride better than stock is an improvement. So whatever you do... as long as it can perform well on highway and off road, it's a win in my book. Mileage is about the same but theoretically.. a lifted vehicle should have slightly reduced mileage due to aerodynamics. Hope this helps!
