    50:18 I played Oblivion retroactively after Skyrim. I recall coming into the region at sunset. Even on the 360 it made me stop and appreciate what I was beholding. I felt like I was in a state prime for an epiphany. I watched Magnus' orphus descending westward as the dusk sky gave way to night. I said to myself 'well, that was majestic' before continuing on to Anvil.

      Yea, Oblivion has Beautiful Graphics. especially considering 2006, though the ONLY thing that doesn't age particularly well is the FaceGeneration. but unlike Morrowind before it. which was a beautiful game for 2002 (especially the Pixelshaded Water), Oblivion did have Facial Expressions.

    • @0lAllan
      @0lAllan Před 2 lety +3

      It was a very subtle joke indeed! Orphus does mean hole, so I'm less his ass and more saying his asshole. Which I assure you is quite majestic. In any case it is compatible with the lore.

    So, we now know of two statues which predate literate human and elven occupation of Tamriel that potentially depict gods;
    The Selkie of Anvil and the Avian of the Skyforge.
    So, it appears there was a proto-culture that was very skilled with masonry, spanned from Whiterun to Anvil, and worshiped at least two gods.
    I think it was some group of the early Nedic tribes, and I'm gunna put my money on the statues depicting Kyne and Dibella.

    • @ewantaylor2758
      @ewantaylor2758 Před 2 lety +16

      Good point, Dibellas chapel is in Anvil and Kynareths temple in Whiterun.

    • @Im-Not-a-Dog
      @Im-Not-a-Dog Před 2 lety +16

      @@ewantaylor2758 It could also show how the Nedes gradually went from Animal Totem worship to worshipping deities with more human-like depictions.
      This is, of course, assuming that the Avian was built before the Selkie, but that would make sense if the theory that the Nedes were the earliest wave of Atmoran settlers that came to Tamriel is true, as they would have had to pass through Skyrim before reaching Cyrodil.
      Dibella is generally believed to be an exclusive Atmoran deity due to the fact that the Cyrodilic Nedes didn't worship her until after their rebellion and the founding of the First Empire. However, the Kothringi Nedes of Blackmarsh worshipped her, although under the name Dibe, which implies that they had some connection the Atmora that the Cyrodilic Nedes were stripped of when they were forced to convert to the Elven gods during generations of slavery under the Ayleids.

    Sutch was a city state and has some history to it. It was cut from Oblivion due to time constraints. The grass was just left over from what they had previously made. In the lore they said the city was sacked somewhere between the late 2nd era or early 3rd era. Additionally, Sutch was often disputed between Hammerfell and the Colovian estates. The book "Thief Of Virtue" from Oblivion even mentioned the city of Sutch being apart of Hammerfell.

    Two curiosities about Sutch not mentioned in the video:
    1) In TES 4: Oblivion, when you approach Sutch close enough, the music will turn from nature ambience music to dungeon music without having to enter the dungeon.
    2) Sutch is present on maps in Elder Scrolls Online and it is depicted as a fully built city. The Gold Coast zone in ESO doesn't cover the area where Sutch is standing, and it is possible that Zenimax might make a DLC about it some day.

    First time I've ever had the pleasure of listening to a 52 minute mixtape. Very funky. Very fresh.

    the oblvion gate stuff where an oblvion gate has not yet spawned is just how they did it, ground textures cant be dynamically changed by in game events so the ground is already textured for the OB gate and a rock is placed to hide it, the rock from the deadlands is not supposed to apear till after its spawned but somone forgot to aply the script to it

    The Gold Coast is my favorite place in ESIV. If I could choose a place to live in Oblivion I would like to live in Anvil. As of typing this Im up to the Selkie Mermaid of Anvil and just wanted to say nice job/catch with her not being a mermaid but a Selkie. That was really interesting.

    Hope u have come to the conclusion that ur storytelling prowess is nearly unmatched. Please tell me u got some plans about being a writer or even a voice actor who could improvise their lines better than anyone else. U got talent dude.

    dude your description of the Gold Coast made it sound almost real. I'd visit for sure, good break from the awful bitter cold weather where I live.

    It's also a little funny that there's a bunch of silver glasses in the chests because it's kinda like a warped version of the region's name, since silver and gold are precious metals often spoken of in the same breath, and coasts are often sandy and sand is made of the same stuff as glass, just in a different composition

    This was one of the goofiest parts of the game. You'd find a chest in the middle of nowhere and there's like a spoon and cup in it.

    Perhaps finngleam was used as an awful torture device like a person strapped to anchors and given the helm for the purpose of keeping the person alive so they can see what is eating them in the dark depths
