  • In this video I am adressing the issues around the big spread that you might experience while shooting the longer barrels in your FX Impact. I am focusing on the .177 700 mm liner.
My focus in aimed at the transfer port, velocity and the weight of the slug.
In this video there is a segment about how to tune the FX Impact M3. This will be released in a seperate video shortly.
    Enjoy

Thanks again for another great video. I have a M3 177 with the 600mm. I've used the valve to gain speed but never tuned with it. Thanks for explaining tuning with the valve will definitely give it a go! Over a year ago SPAW here in the US started taking preorders on the 177 Superior Heavy Slug liners. I preordered one immediately. Short story, still waiting!!! I hope FX releases it soon before I decided to move onto a different platform. I didn't buy the M3 to shoot pellets as I have many other guns that do that well. FX, we need the 177 slug liner already!!!

Brilliant video Peter ! I have a 177 FAC Mk 2 with 700mm barrel and using NSA 15 gr I get a spread between 919 to 946. I have the regulator around 100 bar, to keep the vigor down. Funny thing is that I get a few shots around 919, then a few around 946, then a few back down to 919 etc. Just fitted the Power Block and turned the regulator up to 108 bar and after adjusting the knob between the barrel & air cylinder to show about 3.5 rings - I'm getting good consistency around 956 ie +/- 4 fps. I'm settling for this based upon the size of the spreads before. Having said that - I'm sure I'll push for higher fps at some point . Next job is to try and get acceptable groups using the harmonic tuner on the tensioned barrel. Find your videos very inspiring to keep exploring different setups & options.

Glad to see you back . We all need a break sometime to regroup .
I continue to be faithful to the .177 for a number of reasons . Shot count being one of them . but for back yard target and small varmint dispatch it’s all you need and it’s quieter . It is more critical for the .177 with lighter pellets and slugs to keep you spread as close to zero as possible for accuracy.
One think we don’t talk about very much . the amount of wear and tear the o-rings , regulators and hammer valve assembly take to get big bore PCP’s to shoot the high velocities needed to send larger & heavier pellets or slugs down range . If you want reliability , the .177 is better .
I do worry for you though , once you get to that pentacle you may run out of things to do . 😂

Great video. I just purchased the M3 .22 caliber Sniper 700 mm barrel with heavy slug liner. Shooting JSB Knockouts 25.39 grain slugs. I have not found the accuracy I am looking for at 100 yards. I have also tried various other brands and weights from 23 g. to 30g. Shoots sub MOA at 50 yards, but 2.5 MOA average at 100 yards. Shooting 950 fps with a spread of around 6 fps. I have tried 950, 960, 970, 980, 990 FPS but no improvement in accuracy. I shoot my Daystate rifles at 1 MOA or less at 100 yards - 22 caliber using JSB pellets and slugs both 25.39 g. I use FX Impact 44 g slugs and JSB 50.1g pellets in 30 caliber. I will try your tuning tips and keep playing with the velocities. Thanks for taking the time to not only walk through your experiences, but to show the data in clear and simple summaries. Very well done.

I revisited this post to give you a tip on improving the trigger feel on any FX Impact if you haven’t done it already .
If you ever remove the C1 to access the hammer & spring assembly , do this before putting everything back together .
By chucking the hammer and spring (housing )with a hand drill polish the face with a fine compound to a mirror finish !
This is the side the trigger assembly spring & hammer locks onto when you cock the gun . You will find it eliminates trigger creep and works smoother .

@@VikingAirgunner Absolutely, I think the worst thing is that the machine FX uses to make their liners is very easy to change to whatever twist rate you want. The same probably applies to the chocke.
My thinking is that FX wants people to shoot their new .177 slugs first and then the new liner will come only when people discover they are not as good as certain other manufacturers slugs. We haven't seen FX's new slugs yet either, so it will be a long period without improvements for us who shoot with slugs. 😒

My understanding of the M3 system is that if you gave someone else your settings, both regs, power wheel , quick tune and front valve they should get pretty much exactly the same speeds with same slugs/pellets. Probably why people ask you, but they require all settings. Nice video.

    • @VikingAirgunner

    Hi Viking
I know this was filmed a year ago and I did watch it back then as I was looking for answers for my own M3 in .25cal. I had the exact same problem with FPS spreading vastly and grouping like a shot gun fired at a target. I purchased my rifle brand new in January 2023 and had to send it back 2 months later after trying several attempts to try and put it right myself. Unfortunately, the distributor/airsmith for the FX range in the UK are useless. They kept my rifle for 27 weeks and when I finally got it back it was hit and miss. They claimed that they had replaced both the heavy slug liner and the standard one but I think they were lying because when I took the barrel apart to fit a carbon sleeve in the standard one, it only had two O'rings instead of three and one of them was completely broken. Ideally I would have preferred a full refund but I persisted with hope that I can get it shooting the way it should. Anyway, here I am again going over your video again from a year ago trying to find answers for a fix to my problem. Wish you were in the UK.
    Any ideas?

Im sorry to hear about your problems. I actually also sent back my rifle which didnt fix anything.

Hey when you start talking about spread and velocity around 20:25 did you touch the second regulator anymore from the first time when you went from 110 or so to 125 im really just trying to understand everything lol and the reason you did that was because your spread was not ideal for you at the 985 ? @VikingAirgunner  Před rokem +1

When I turned up the regulator I was aiming for 125, but I only went to 118. Just decided to test it there.
In that segment it was all about finding the velocity so not really focusing on the spread. So here I was aiming for a maximum around 1005 fps so I could turn down the hammer and hit 985 fps with less stress on the system to make it more harmonic.
Hope that explanaition helped - if not just ask again 🙂

Is the 989 fps the maximum velocity at that reg preasure?
If it is - then try my way and turn up the 2nd reg a bit at the time untill you are able to hit around 20 fps above the 989 fps at the max and then turn down the power wheel till you hit the 989 fps again. In this way you will experience a much more harmonic gun 🙂

That’s interesting that when you increase the velocity the spread reduced.
So, to increase the velocity, you were raising the hammer spring tension using the power wheel up to the maximum number? Was the second reg still at 118bar?
Were you adjusting the front valve each time you raised the velocity (power wheel?) to get the slightly reduced speed then wind back out to get back to desired speed?

    • @VikingAirgunner

Its been a while since I did the video, so I cant really remember the exact procedure, but I didnt fine tune the gun for each setting. I seem to remember that I raised the reg preasure.
But after changing from the standard STX Superior liner that I was using in this video into the heavy liner the problems with the big spread disappeared. So if you - or anyone else are using the 700 mm stx superior liner - I will strongly advise you to change into the heavy liner if you are using slugs 🙂

    I didn't know FX made a .177 700mm barrel ?
FX is treating .177 shooters like red headed step children (nothing against the red-haired people) 😁👍🏻

Yeah I guess that the bigger calibers are more popular world wide 😃
But Im doing my very Best to draw some attention in the direction of the 177 😃
I dont think that the STX Superior 700 mm liner was available all over the world. For sure not in the US.
I dont know if the 700 mm heavy liner is but I hope that it is 🤗
