  • Trigger Warning: This video contains discussions about suicide and severe adverse reactions to medication.
Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring, a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in identifying and treating psychiatric adverse drug reactions, interviews Marsha, a mother who suffered severe akathisia after taking only two pills of Lunesta. Dr. Witt-Doerring's unique perspective stems from his prior experience as a Medical Officer at the FDA, where he analyzed adverse drug reactions and proposed modifications to drug labeling.
In this interview, Marsha courageously recounts the disabling symptoms and the fear of uncertainty she experienced, reflecting on the lack of understanding and support she faced within the medical community regarding her diagnosis and its origins. Despite the intense struggle and suicidal thoughts, Marsha survived and has made a remarkable recovery. Viewer discretion is advised, especially for those affected by similar experiences or thoughts of suicide.

There are many medications that cause Akathisia, and healthcare providers are missing the signs and symptoms of akathisia. Most of them don't even know what it is. More of these drugs are being pumped out for anxiety, depression, pain, nausea, fibromyalgia, migraines, chronic fatigue, ADHD, or even for infections (fluoroquinolone antibiotics like Cipro) and this is becoming a HUGE HUGE problem; causing a wide range of issues from not being able to function well in life or at work, to not being able to work at all, all the in between disabilities and suffering, and on the other end of the spectrum, all the way to possible suicides and even mass shootings. Keep going Josef. Make this CZcams channel go from 30k viewers to millions. We need to get media attention in the mainstream news. This is where we need to focus --- getting major mainstream media attention. Certainly, someone somewhere who has been injured, and who has connections, can help facilitate this.

I've never come across with someone who only had two doses and with this type of reaction but this just shows how everyone reacts to medications so differently. And yes, people are never fully informed about the medications they're about to take and or developing adverse or toxic reactions or dependency with long term use. No informed consent.

So sad, I am experiencing a similar outcome after taking multiple medications within a matter of two months including Z drugs like Ambien (zolpiclem tartrate) and Sonata which eventually lead to me taking additional medications like CBD with less than 1% THC, and then Belsomra and Paxil. Doctors love to prescribe and not deprescribe, due to the nature of Big Pharma financially incentivizing the rich payouts. Eventually getting polydrugged and having to recover from taking Hydroxyzine and Mirtazapine, and then Xanax and eventually tapering off of it and then coming off Valium for nearly 10 months and cold turkeying the Mirtazapine. The MTHFR genetic defect can make us vulnerable to taking prescription psychiatric medication. Organic acid tests and neurotransmitters testing can also help us, but how is someone to know without the best physician what to do under these circumstances.

I've done all sorts of "fun" drugs in my life to no alarming or serious effect at all, the only time i've ever experienced strange symptoms and legitimate hallucinations (the only visual hallucinations I've ever experienced) was taking a single ambien during a road trip. I can't believe people, including folks I know, take these drugs daily; the medical system seems totally broken to allow such frequent prescriptions.

I know, right? I’ve done more than my share of street drugs, including benzos.
I’m wondering if using recreationally for “fun” is part of the key to not having these insane side effects. People taking “only as prescribed” to “fix” something that is wrong with them, on the other hand…maybe that is part of the equation? I don’t know.
I do know that these problems, while horrifying and severe, are rare. I still believe some of these medications are a god send for certain patients in certain situations, to be used as a one-off, or VERY short term.
My beloved dog Leon, who at 14 crossed the rainbow bridge July 1st of this year, was on 1 mg Xanax to be taken 30 minutes before fireworks or severe thunderstorms. I adopted him from the local shelter during the pandemic quarantine, and his first 4th of July with us was HORRIFIC. Truly a nightmare. And that was just for me, from watching him be terrified, cry, pace, try and hide, vomit and diarrhea.

I deal with internal akathisia, mate. Internal vibrations, tremors and burning from the inside sensations. Organ pain, horrible tinnitus, the sensation of tearing flesh and organs. Literally burst a blood vessel a few months ago because of the stress and dystonia. Not to mention the temperature shifts and sometimes profuse sweating out of nowhere. Thankfully with time it lessened; currently at 15-25% intensity in general but every 2-3 weeks i experience insomnia and can't sleep for the entire night and then it ramps up and it's different every single time - sometimes there is barely pain, at other times my muscles in my back and shoulders start violently twitching and the whole intense heart pounding, at other times it's just shitty insomnia. I still deal with internal vibrations/tremors but for the most part that healed a lot except for the sleepless night every few weeks. I dealt with external akathisia but it's mostly residual now. Still a lot of nights on hard mode but at least it went down from nightmare mode for the most part. Still a ton of bad days but it can't be helped.

Dr WD, I’d like you to address what “dig deeper” means. I was healthy and normal before this. The symptoms I have still came with cessation of this drug. So what do you mean, dig deeper? And now the mark is 5 years and after that we are ??? Damaged? Please explain further.

I can't speak for the good doctor but maybe look into food sensitivities? Histamine issues? I used to be very sensitive to high-oxalate foods until I cut out all dairy and soy, after which the oxalate sensitivity and associated health problems disappeared.

I e been on a benzo ativan for years. But 2 and a half years ago when i started gabapentin and went on and off and tapered 3 times and the third time around i feel messed me up with all sorts of symptoms. I also have mold toxicity and MCS. Can gabapentin gabapentin mess you up that bad? Ive been kff now for 15 weeks. The tinnitus got bad when i got down to 100 milligrams. Had covid as well in November.

Ya, being on Gabapentin, Ambien, and Ativan at the same time gave me a nervous system dysfunction disorder and made my MCAS worse. Getting off of those meds improved symptoms

It’s too many meds all at once in my opinion. I am on Ativan 1mg or 2mg at things only for the last month. I lost two friends and two family members this year and couldn’t sleep and had horrible anxiety. The amount of drugs I was offered… should be illegal.
