  • This is part 4 of a 4 part interview series with former NFL running back Harvey Williams. He grew up in Hempstead Texas, played football at LSU, and had an 8 year career with the Kansas City Chiefs and the LA/ Oakland Raiders from 1991 to 1998. I had the pleasure of sitting down with him for a 4 part series. Harvey currently runs a select youth football team in the Houston, Texas area. He teaches football and life skills in his camps. Thanks for watching, enjoy.

Coach Kenny was one of my coach’s and also my principle at Waller high school. One of the most influential men in my life. He’s passed on now but it’s pretty cool that Harvey gave him his props on this podcast.

Oh that's pretty cool! On and off camera, Harvey gave a lot of credit to Coach Kenney. He said he was the reason Harvey was even recruited to play at LSU and still to this days calls him the best coach he ever had. Must have been a great guy! Thanks for sharing!

    About Emmitt:
Claim: the Oline was the common denominator.....No. there were 12 other backs behind Emmitt during his 13 year run in Dallas. Not another one had his success. As Ernie zampese (RIP) and Norv Turner both said, Emmitt made the line, the line didn't make Emmitt.
"IF Barry...". Barry already had a far above average offensive line. Put barrry against the beasts in the east and tell him to run in the 1-2 gap, barry would have been a bench warmer.
About Emmitt in general: there are maybe 5 traits you look for in a back. Most backs are great at 1, good at 1 or 2, medicore on everything else.
Emmitt was good at 4 of the 5....but great in VISION.

Yea well said. He was super solid in a lot of areas. very solid all around and indeed made the line what it was. Major props for his long successful career. I would like to think Barry Sanders would have been just and dominant or even more, but who knows. Either way, both are in the H.O.F. Thanks for your breakdown and thanks for watching.
