- Sure, we love a good explosion as much as the next person, but what is a movie without a good script? For this list, we’re looking at movie dialogue that brilliantly developed character, advanced the plot, gave light to theme, or did all three at the same time, with a style or flare that had us hooked. From modern masterpieces like "Pulp Fiction", "The Social Network", and "There Will Be Blood" to revered classics like "The Godfather", "Glengarry Glen Ross" and "The Big Lebowski", these movies proved that sometimes a few good words is all you need to hook audiences in. Which movie do you think has the best dialogue? Let us know in the comments below!

Morning Watch Mojo, interesting list. Makes for a good debate 😉
Destination Wedding
"You're tearing me apart Lisa!"
Best dialogue hands down
I did NAHT
Oh, hi Mark
Hello Doggy...
Anyway how's your sex life
Um no
How does The Room not make this list??? "Oh hi Mark" 😆
TBH Good point. HUGE oversight HAHA!
What about the rocky franchise
Agreed. That scene where Johnny purchases those roses is pure gold.
Lol, yeah sure
U gotta be a Chris Stuckmann fan!
Inglorious Bastards has some of the best dialogue ever.
@Ulysses432 More like just Tarantino and maybe Clerk's.
@Ulysses432 It's witty though.
That opening scene in the farmhouse shows what a genius Tarantino is when it comes to dialogue. That basement pub scene is great too.
True but some dialogue like "we're in the Nazi killing business" and "we admire your work when it comes to killin' nazis" is kinda dumb
It has decent dialogue
Pulp fiction will always be my favorite dialogue in a movie
I like Inglorious Basterds better..,
“Say Goodbye to your Nazi Balls”
People in my country call it Royale With Cheese
Surely "Airplane" has the best comedy dialogue... and don't call me Shirley.
Leslie would be proud
Clerks would be a top 10 comedy dialogue as well
That would be Roger Roger..........
If they do one for comedy and Airplane isn't #1, the list will be shite. 🤬
I concur
12 angry men is probably my all time favourite film. Incredible dialogue, terrific acting, amazing movie. Thank you for including it.
How could the "Before Trilogy" not be on this list?
EXACTLY
Most films are on here because they’re written by some of the best screenwriters - Tarantino, Sorkin, Coen Brothers, etc.
I'm guessing Tarantino film is going to be on this list
Catharsis
You’re an idiot.
*Number 1:* MR. BEAN
_Action speaks louder than words. The legend has finally spoken the best dialogue yet: _*_comedy._*
The Princess Bride!! Excellent comedy dialogue and infinitely quotable. Should be number 1 on your top 10 comedy dialogue list.
One of my personal favs!
Could have been on this list too. Not just comedy
“You keep using that word, I don’t think you know what it means”
I watched 12 Angry Men recently & it was awesome
It is a must watch!
@@WatchMojo 9/10
Title : best dialogue
"I...DRINK...YOUR...MILKSHAKE!!!!"
seems legit
It's not even in the top 10, movie historians would be shocked..!!
@@skydog729 movie historians are full of shit
There will be blood
It's an incredible film
Love the movie, but that's not dialogue. It's a rant.
I would add "In Bruges" to this list.
Totally. Anything by the mcdonagh brothers has great dialogue. In Bruges being top of the list.
The "before" trilogy should be on this list!!!!
I saw Network for the first time this past summer. The dialogue was captivating and perfectly enhanced the scenes. You didn't need special effects or explosions, just the expressive banter between exceptional actors as they describe what's happening.
Dark Knight should be on the list. Every Joker dialog really nails the film to win awards.
Absolutely
Literally. TDK Joker is a walking meme
Not just Joker
Haha. No
Social Network should've been #2 at least. It is a masterpiece of tempo in dialogue.
Where is Good Will Hunting?
DanG M8 now I’m not going to bother watching
@@JarodThompson OK boomer
DanG M8 Quality dialogue 😂
DanG M8 “How do you like them apples?!”
THANK YOU!!!! I was waiting anxiously the entire time. Not even an honorable mention. Le sigh...
How dare you; Pulp Fiction should be waaaaaay higher and it's dialogue is a major reason why its considered one of the greatest films of all time.
LOL
The words belong to the characters not the writer. Every Tarrantino film has him all over it. That's vanity, not good writing. His best film is Jackie Brown, because it's an adaptation.
Not higher than Glengarry Glen Ross though. I can't find a film with more incredible dialog than that.
Others with at least a mention could've been:
Clerks
Me and Earl and the dying girl
Spotlight
Juno
The perks of being a wallflower
Keep this up! I'm interested in movie dialogue.
This is what most modern movies are missing! Thanks for this list, I will be rewatching every movie here!
I know I'm not one to question the might that is watchmojo but
Where's shawshank redemption?
Great video and I enjoyed it and have a blessed day
Bravo WM....great list with the best as no. 1....
Just so you won’t have to watch the whole video here’s the list:
10. Pulp Fiction
9. Glengarry Glen Ross
8. Sunset Blvd
7. Network
6. The Social Network
5. My Dinner with Andre
4. Casablanca
3. Manhattan
2. The Godfather
* The Big Lebowski
* Sweet Smell of Success
* Goodfellas
* There Will Be Blood
* Chinatown
1. 12 Angry Men
In my mind without a doubt, the movie with the best dialogue is a movie called, All About Eve.
I came to the comments to comment about that too. Not even getting an honorable mention is a travesty!!!
Classic! They need to make a second list and this would be #1. 😊
The amount of times I would rewind that movie, just to watch a scene again, is probably unhealthy
@@liannapfister8255 😃
You guys missed the backstory of all that great dialogue in "Casablanca." You mentioned the names of the credited screenwriters but there were several others involved as well. That script was rewritten several times and continued to be rewritten all through shooting. It's a miracle it's any good at all, much more so as great as it turned out.
Ohhhh i love u watchmojo whatever i think and find i get it from you. Love u lot
Very interesting and informative, Rebecca!!!!😁 I don't understand why there are so many thumbs down?????
Aaron Sorkin's screenplay for Steve Jobs is absolutely brilliant! Why isnt it on the list?!
Yeah? Well, you know, that's just like, your opinion, man
The Dude shut up Donny
Let me tell you something pendejo!
You know this video is golden when they have the dude in the clip art
Not even a mention for A Few Good Men? I think that's Aaron Sorkin's most iconic work.
I guess they were doing a “one per screenwriter” rule.
@@MordikI They mentioned Steve Jobs.
I mean what was one the list.
@@MordikI Right, but I was just talking about a mention.
Oh, THAT kind of mention, okay.
You are my go to site for movie suggestions. Beats watching trailer after trailer. Thank you. Would love to see a similar count down on best male / female banter? (like Casablanca)
How about “All About Eve”?
Nice list, makes for a good list of movies to watch. I recently saw Molly's Game, I found the dialogue very powerful, even difficult to follow for me (not having English as mother tongue).
"When you have to shoot, shoot.... don't talk"
- The good, the bad and the ugly my favoirite..
Please, do the top comedy movies with the best dialogues! Hehe this will be my new to-watch list.
You have one of the best voices ever.
I see The Dude abides in the thumbnail and I click right away
You don't know how happy I am seeing my favourite movie in this list. David Mammet is a legendary playwright!
I was hoping to see Good Will Hunting on this list!
Good one! Script & Story will always be the real bar that will either make or break a movie, not always CGI effects or pure action slugfests, let alone mindless violence.
Yessss, comedies with the best dialog please!
Where’s Attack of the Clones with such a classic as, “I wish that I could just wish away my feelings.”
Finally a number one pick that I completely agree with!!!
'Lord of the Rings', 'The Negotiator,' 'Captain America: Civil War', 'The American President', 'The Untouchables', 'The Dark Kight', and 'Spotlight'.
'Twelve Angry Men' was on my list as well, but you got that covered.
Guardians of The Galaxy 2:
Ego, "If you kill me, you'll be just like everybody else."
Peter: "What's so wrong with that?"
I love that dialogue.
Never heard of it
@@legendary3952 Have you seen the movie?
Chase Hedges yep
But that dialogue wasn’t anything iconic or memorable to me.
Especially compared to others
Civil war has more memorable or powerful dialogue to me
Top ten comedy movies with great dialogue. I would love to see that video!
Try tropic thunder and scott pilgrim
"I drink your milkshake.....I drink it up."
- Daniel Plainview(Daniel Day Lewis).
Watch as This conman gets busted 😂😂
czcams.com/video/3oash4Q8B1Q/video.html
The Godfather is the perfect movie.
'This is the End' and 'Scott Pilgrim' better make the cut of that comedy list.
#10 - Pulp Fiction
Me: *clicks off the video*
The silence of the lambs? WHERE’S THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS??!!!
Top 10 comedy film dialogue? YES! The only problem is that most of the list would be Kevin Smith movies. And I'm okay with that.
Mean Girls Could Have Made It
@@chiara1194 I Know Right
Perks of Being a Wallflower, Edge of Seventeen...
Which of these movies is your favourite!? TBH any Tarantino movie has amazing dialogue.
Yes for top 10 comedies with the best dialogue. Was hoping to see The Princess Bride on this list (but understand why I didn't, given the competition pool).
I was expecting The Hateful Eight, too....
Watch as This conman gets busted 😂😂
czcams.com/video/3oash4Q8B1Q/video.html
Though Pulp Fiction was great... The only thing that held the whole film together for Inglorious Basterds was the Dialogue and wordplay.
I know these are odd picks but 'Do the Right Thing' and 'Mean Girls' have brilliant dialogue. They are just smartly hidden in a coating of juvenile vernacular. They instantly bring you into their worlds and never lose steam.
The hateful eight has pretty good dialogue. That one always sticks out in my mond
Casablanca, the greatest film of all time, should be number 1.
rich perez yeah films aren’t for you clearly then homie
Yw yes YES to the comedy dialogue video!!!!
What I would like to see is the Top 20 Comic Book Movies with memorable dialogue
Great selection on Movie Dialogue, Rebecca - yes, got to be 12 Angry Men for top slot.
I'm not exacly a fan of Good Will Hountil, but it sure makes an exelent work with dialogues.
The Sweet Smell of Success is too good to be an honorable mention.
Jaws should have an honourable mention. That movie has a great script and dialogue.
That's the one best thing about movies the dialogue 🤗
I agree with your number 1
I'm so in agreement with the top pick. I love the movie. Thank You
12 Angry Men was so good. My favorite of Hollywood's golden age.
I would love to see the top 10 comedy movies with the best dialog
Perfetti Sconosciuti is a little masterpiece about dialogues, the classic movie set in one room.
Absolutely! I would love to see that video. It would be hilarious I feel.
Pulp Fiction was absolutely riveting to watch in the theater. I saw it on opening night with my sister and brother-in-law. Both my sister and I had to pee halfway in, and neither of us could bear to budge from our seats for fear that we’d miss something.
Wow what is it like guessing the number one spot sometimes like it makes you feel like you just won the lotto!
I was hoping so deeply that Casablanca would be on here, as it belongs, especially in the Top 5. Speaking of Top 5...
Due to my convos with Rebecca on Twitter, I knew she was a fan of movies with great dialogue, since we discussed High Fidelity over the course of a day.
And the #1 pick? I was surprised, but not really; dialogue and semantics are abound in that movie. One of the best ever made, for sure!
Nice.. 12 Angry Men Is on of My All Time Favorites
Upvoted once I saw you included Dinner with Andre. #1 for me would have been The Ruling Class.
Others: Murder on the Orient Express (1974) - What's Up Doc - The Desk Set
Mean Girls should be on there next.
Yes, top 10 comedies with best dialogue!
So two best dialogue movies that I didn't see mentioned, wolf of wall street and Locke
So China town, her, the dark knight, and the sting are all out of the question
Pulp Fiction is the best and always will be but in my opinion I would say Reservoir Dogs has the best dialogue because we never see the heist in the film but the way characters when confronting one another talk about what happened, the details, what they remember, what went wrong, fighting and yelling for the mistakes that they made that we have not seen them do in the film and the performances in the film is what makes the dialogue great in that film.
what ? no heat :O jaw dropped.
You know this is the second time I've clicked on a WM video where the thumbnail ended up being only an honorable mention.
Either for this list or the comedy list I would nominate The Philadelphia Story
I love Twelve Angry Men! One of my favorite movies of all time.
The Dark Knight! Should’ve been at the least an honorable mention!
In bruges?
My choice: the brief dialogue between Yossarian and the madame of the brothel in the movie "Catch 22". The film's author (Joseph Heller) is addressing the subject "Paradox".
How about Spy Kids?
“I snap my fingers.... and my fingers snap you.”
I 100% agree with #1
The Ten Commandments. That movie's dialogue was genius.
You could put pretty much every Tarantino movie on this list.
sorta. sometimes he overindulges in style over substance though like in Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time in Hollwyood. Still a great though, but not infalliable
