    Hey i had a random thought this morning, what happened to the poor pensioners during the workhouse era i googled it and theres not too much about it. They talk about the families etc. But what if you was a single elderly person n poor

      I’ve seen some conflicting stuff, and I’m sure there’ll be someone along in a bit who says otherwise, but according to the National Trust, who include a workhouse in Southwell among their luxury estates, the elderly were considered ‘deserving poor’ and while still homed within the workhouse, were given more comfortable accommodation (relatively - we’re by no means talking high living here!) and treated with more respect and care in terms of the expectations and workloads they were given.
