      No offense man but I'm not sure you understand what Tywin meant when he said that... Joffrey was an idiot compared to Tywin, Joffrey did not know how a King should act, he thought that being a King meant that you can do whatever you want, kill anyone who doesn't agree with you, demand loyalty from everyone even if you treat them like shit, promise mercy to a Lord if he says that he ( Joffrey ) is the rightful Heir to the Iron Throne and then kill that Lord just because he wanted to show the people how "tough and strong" he is.. the Lord i am talking about here is Eddard Stark. Not to mention that Joffrey felt the need to remind everyone that he is "The King". This was very stupid on his part considering that Stannis sent letters to all the Lords of Westeros informing them that Joffrey and his siblings are not Robert's children but bastards born of incest between Cersei Lannister and her brother Jaime Lannister. The smallfolk soon started hearing these rumors when the War of the Five Kings started, so many Lords and many common people believed that he is a false King and an abomination who started a war when he ordered Ned stark to be executed which resulted in many deaths ( soldiers dying in battle and smallfolk starving to death ). Tywin was aware of all of this and wanted to teach Joffrey how a true King acts, because Tywin was all about the family legacy and reputation ( making sure everyone fears and respects the Lannister name and ensuring the survival and prosperity of his House ) and considering that Joffrey was his grandson, Tywin wanted to help the little cunt and teach him how to rule the seven Kingdoms in a way that would keep the Lords of Westeros loyal to the Crown, the common people relatively safe and happy with the way things are done, thus making sure they won't rebel against the Crown, and teach Joffrey that a King can not simply say "I am the King" and expect the people to respect him and stay loyal to him, a true King shows the people that he is the King with his actions, leadership, wise decisions, strict but fair way of ruling the Kingdom, attending the small council meetings and listening to his advisers ( by that i mean Tywin himself, he wouldn't allow others to influence Joffrey and have power over him, that's why he is there ) and had Joffrey actually realized that he has nothing to lose but everything to gain by listening to Tywin and allowing him to rule the Kingdoms behind closed doors while he takes all the credit... he would've been one of the most respected and feared Kings in the last 50 years. In this scenario the Tyrells have no reason to kill Joffrey since his sadistic side would be kept in check by Tywin and kept as a secret.

Then he was appointed Regent and proceeded to show that he was every bit as cunning and capable as Tywin, he simply loved his brother and loyally did his duty as the younger brother. When Tywin died, it was his time to step up due to Cersei's failure, and wound up assassinated because he was doing too good of a job.

      Holdup that defiantly can’t be right. So that means Pycelle served
      King Aegon V- 20 years
      King Jahaerys II- 3 years
      King Aerys II- 20 years
      King Robert I- 17 years
      King Jofferey (Ugh) I- 2 years
      King Tommen I- 1 year
      So Pycelle has served under the office of Grand Maester for around 60 years?!?! First off the office of Grand Maester is reserved for only the most disciplined and senior maesters and all of the Maesters serving high lords have been around 50+. Just to cut Pycelle some slack we could say he started serving King Aegon V when he was around 30 years old. If that’s the case then Pycelle was 90 years old over the course of the show.

      Not impossible, people in the middle ages did live to advanced ages albeit it was very rare and they were usually near the top of the social pyramid, as Grand Maester he likely knew how to take of himself and had the funds and resources to do it. He was appointed at some point during the reign of Aegon V, not necessarily at the start. Mhe Grand Maester he replaced was an old man who died enroute to meet Aegon so that might help explain why Aegon picked Pycelle to replace him

Not only that, but despite his position and reputation, he wasn't so arrogant as Jaime was and Cersei is. He had his values and priorities set. To him, life was about leaving a legacy behind, and it is indeed the family name that lives on in the end. He had made house Lannister from the ground up, gold doesn't have anything to do with it. The most fascinating thing to me is that Tywin is one of the only characters in the books and show that got to marry the person he loved. He never was a very emotional person because he was the polar opposite of his father. But he once was happy. Apparently he could smile back in the day with the mad king before he went mad and above all Joanna (his cousin and wife) could make him smile. He also smiled when jaime and Cersei were born. I see tywin as a man that's basically broken because he lost his wife. He was already fixated with legacy and family because his house was constantly humiliated in his youth before he became head of the house and when joanna died it simply put was all that was left for him to live for. Prestige, family name, legacy. He is an unhappy man.

      Yet this only proves Tywin's wisdom and logic, though he hated Tyrion. he still appointed him to be the Hand of the King and approved of Tyrion's plan to marry Mercylla off to the Martells, which further proves Tywin never made enemies instead he avoids making ones and settles with his enemies.

Love Jon, Tyrion and Dany but Tywin was one of the few people who could control the whole of Westeros without dragons or a bloodline, the only other person I think could have done that was Olenna. He took a ruined house and made them into the most powerful on the continent, which has fought war after war and is still standing.
    Even if it went to shit after he died because of Cersei 'not as smart as you think you are' Lannister.

      @EncryptedBear8 Před 6 lety +4

      Cersei thinks she is like Tywin, but she never will be any similar to him. She is the most arrogant person ever. Her POV chapters are hillarious. Her first POV chapter begins with "She dreamt she sat the Iron Throne, high above them all. " Also she thinks/references to herself always as "the queen".

    • @LohenArc
      @LohenArc Před 6 lety +3

      Yup. Off all Tywin's family, the ones with the highest potential to carry out the legacy of his personality would be Cersei and Joffrey (with some conditioning).
      "But Tyrion is the most clever!"
      Yes, Tyrion is the best representative of Lann the Clever, but he is no 'heir' to Tywin in the way Cersei and Joffrey have/had the potential to be.

    • @EncryptedBear8
      @EncryptedBear8 Před 6 lety +10

      Tywin did understand that some of those "enemies" like the Tyrells are way more helpful as allies, something Cersei will never understand. She did destroy the sparrows, but she was the one to empower them in the first place. While Tywin was alive they didn't even have the courage to come to KL. Also right now she has nearly no soldiers left. Dany could destroy her at any moment if she wanted to, even without dragons. The only thing that saves her is that Jon (let's please not call him Aegon, there are 13 Aegon Targaryen's mentioned in the story, with one being alive and important in the books whom we call fAegon. Maybe calling Jon jAegon? idk)
      and Dany want a truce to fight the army of the Dead. They could also just kill her and then move on to the great war, wouldn't be a problem either. So Cersei is nearly helpless, she could do nothing if Dany decided to attack. Her only hope is the golden company, and there she has to rely on Euron, who is better not to be trusted.
      Let's compare that with what Tywin had if Shae didn't enter the room and Jaime and Tyrion would have accepted his offer: King's Landing: Puppetking Tommen with Tywin ruling, the Reach: Tyrells as allies, through marriage Tommen-Myrcella and Cersei-Loras, Riverlands: both Riverrun and the Twins are hold by the Freys who are allies, North is Roose Bolton's, another ally, Dorne is tricky, but he tried it best he can with the Myrcella marriage and placing Oberyn on the council, Vale is also tricky, but Tywin thought he had it through Littlefinger.
      So yea, if we see what Tywin had, what Cersei has is nothing compared to that.
      Also the phrase "Tyrion despises his family name" is just so wrong. He hates Cersei and his father, but he always rooted for the Lannister name and was proud to be a Lannister.

    Although evil, the person of Lord Tywin deserves to be remembered and learned from. His competence and willpower were both truly extraordinary in the world of Ice and Fire and in our, real world.
    With our human nature being corrupted, our will weakened and our mind clouded - few have the virtue to rise and break the chains of mediocrity.
    He lacked honor of Eddard Stark.
    He lacked piety of Beric Dondarrion.
    He lacked love of Catelyn Tully.
    He lacked devotion of Stannis Baratheon.

    He didn't have power over Joffrey but made him tremble.
    Didn't have power over Cersei, but made her yield.
