  • Body Hyperpigmentation is normal anyone with more melanin rich skin will have some shade variations within the body. But I do understand that severe hyperpigmentation Can affect your quality of life: pigment remains for years much more troublesome than the initial cause of pigment. so if that you in this video I am going to provide you with a simple guide you can follow to improve your hyperpigmentation
Keep in mind you’ll need different products and slightly more aggressive yet strategic approach than with facial pigmentation because body skin is thicker, and the cells turn over cycle is slower so you need higher percentages and lower ph than on the face to actually get proper absorption of actives into the thicker skin on the body
So in general you are going to want to cycle between products that are
pigment inhibitors, exfoliators and cell rejuvenators aka retinols to stop the over production of melanin.
    Retinols recommended in the video:
    Paula’s Choice -
    Versed Retinol - shop-links.co/cge0rbv5NfD
Exfoliation products recommended in the video:
SkinFix Resurface exfoliation pads - shop-links.co/cge0rbeRVGX
Pigment inhibitors recommended in the video:
    Faded - shop-links.co/cge0rbJhve2
    Cyspera- lddy.no/h66b
    Moisturizers Recommended:
La Roche Posay Lipikar AP Balm -
    Acne:
even tone correcting body cleansing bar - shop-links.co/cge0sl1h1Z0
Its recommended to always patch test before starting a new product and to only introduce one new product at a time.
For epidermal treatment I recommended the Every third day skin cycle regimen- you are going to switch up what you are dong every third night, treatment, exfoliate , repair mode
Every third night you are with focusing on treating (mon/thur/sun); exfoliating (Tuesday, fri) or repairing the skin (wed/saturday)
So what this would look like on a treatment day is using a gentle wash, follow that up with faded hyperpigmentation treatment spray and a moisturizer rich in linoleic omega fatty acids.
Night 2 exfoliate: the exfoliating product you choose should be specific to the body area of pigmentation you are treating for example for bikini and under arm hyperpigmentation, follow this up with your omega rich Moisturizer
Night 3: is all about nourishing our skin barrier while rebuilding our skin structure with a retinol rich with omegas
Sunscreen for any area that is openly exposed to the skin and covering with clothing!
If your pigmentation is truly dermal it is unlikely to respond to OTC products and you may need to consider seeking your dermatologist for the best treatment options for you in my office we do chemical peels specific for the body, laser treatment, infusion microneedling etc. because Often there is a combination of both epidermal and dermal starting off with this regimen would be helpful in seeing some improvement
OTC- 3-6 MONTHS/CELL CYCLES TO WORK- dark marks on the body take much longer to fade than dark marks on your face because of the slower cell turn over rate

@@anaissimmons3595 I’ve been using the versed press restart gentle retinol serum, ordinary’s glycolic acid, and I used another Kojic fade cream called carotone. I have been sticking to the routine since mid-January and yes my marks have gotten lighter. I don’t really spot treat, I just dab and put it all over my legs. I lost track of time and started to think that it wasn’t working but I had to really look and yes it works. It has lightened old mosquito marks and my knees however it’s not as powerful for I guess “rougher deeper patches” of hyperpigmentation like my knee bone where I would kneel. It’s a great starter but you must be diligent with it. Keep a skincare routine calendar if you have to. Because I can understand how my hyperpigmentation works now, I’m investing in tretinoin to treat stubborn areas and will use this routine instead just on my face. This video has definitely helped me invest into better layering skincare for the body. Hope this helps.

You're probably not going to see this comment since this video has over a week but it would be amazing if you could do a video talking more about hyperpigmentation on intimate areas, I know you've mentioned here but a more in dept video would be super useful! I and (I assume) many other dark skinned women suffer from PIH on the pubic area due to shaving and ingrown hairs and I can't find any useful video or article on this issue, specifically for our skin tone which this tends to happen more times and I'm not sure what if this can be treated with OTC products or with a dermatologist.

I really want to thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for this video. I suffer from dermatillomania or compulsive skin picking disorder and the main areas I have damaged are my upper arms and my chest. I can’t wear many of the things I would like to because I feel like my scars make me so ugly. However, I decided enough was enough and got to the root of this condition which has plagued me for 10+ years. I figured out what my triggers are and what causes me to pick at my skin, I also have taken the step of seeking help from mental health professionals. Although it’s still a tough journey, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel that gets brighter and brighter every day! This routine has begun to smooth out my damaged skin and my spots have gone from black to now a medium brown! I do hope one day to be able to find a sympathetic dermatologist who won’t make me feel disgusting or weird because of my condition, but until then I’m glad I now have this routine! 🧡

This is such a great video, thank you so much. I've been struggling with body hyperpigmentation for a long time, most especially on my forearms and lower legs, and it's fairly recently that I really started trying to figure out how to deal with it once and for all. Too many videos are about spot treatment on the face, recommending ingredients that must be used only as spot treatment exactly on the hyperpigmented areas. But I have many, many spots on large parts of my body so I need something that I can just apply all over instead of spending half an hour trying to specifically spot-treat each spot. It's not that I regret having my hyperactive scratchy bitey rescue cat Panda around, no it's certainly not that.

Omg thank you 😢. I went to the beach May 2022, re applied sunscreen and all…. We stayed in the sun… and my profile pic is how my skin looked… now.. I’m like 3 shades darker and it won’t go away 😭😭. I touch my skin and it’s red followed with seeing my true skin color underneath. So, makes me feel it isn’t dermal. My skin is still hot to touch from MAY!! Gonna buy these products and try. Thank you so much!!! 😭😭😭😭

Try merderma I'm 53 and I had old scars from childhood chicken pox. Merderma lessen the dept of the scars and made them less visible. I also use urban rx cleansing bar and exfoliating pads. I use roc retinol too...

Hi Dr. Stephens. First of all, thank you so much for always providing us with a wealth of information. I do have a question that I’m struggling with. How does hormonal skin cycling and this type of skin cycling go hand in hand? Would I just eliminate actives the week of my cycle?

Yes!! I have been dealing with severe hyperpigmentation on my legs. I'm getting ready to go into my freshman year of college next month and I have clusters of dark spots from childhood. The skin on my legs heal horribly and the trauma I get on them turns into a black spot that barely lightens into a dark spot until it stays for years and years on end. I feel better knowing that my skin isn't a lost cause after all. Thank you for this video!

omg - same. I've had this all my life, so glad that I'm now an adult and can afford to get proper treatment. I'm 27 and about to really invest to boost my self-esteem.

@@BZlive1 Same here! Now that I can afford these things and products, I’m also on the healing path for my skin and self-esteem. I went ahead and purchased myself some shorts, skirts, and a dress or two because it’s been years since I’ve worn any of that. I wish you the best of luck with your skin care journey!

@@hotsauce2422 Hello! I can honestly say that after being consistent for about a month in a half, I’ve noticed some small yet good improvements! I fell off of my routine due to some personal roadblocks but I’m back on it now. Some small hyperpigmentation spots on the back of my thighs seemed to have lightened a bit but the darker spots on the front of my legs did not seem to change. Overall, I’m going to try and stay as consistent as possible to see the results that I want to see! I hope that this helped!

I should use the retinol on the day before using the exfoliate? So use retinol on Tues/Fri and Exfoliate on Wed/Sat?
