    Heya, very nice video with nice dept going trouble shooting

    Great video. I usually highlight the codes on IC's/transistors by covering it in a bit of thermal compound and wiping it away, leaving the code highlighted. Worked every time. Better to clean any flux on the chip with alcohol first too

    there is another trike to see the numbers rub a bit of white tipex over the chip it can make it visible

      Thanks! I still have one more video to make on these 8800GT cards as I ordered a new GPU for the one that I successfully removed the old GPU. When it arrives I will be trying to replace it and post the results, regardless of whether it is successful or not

    The easiest way to found a short is just to take a bench power supply set at 1V with current limit at 1A feed the shorted node with it and measure the voltage across the components on this node, the one giving the lowest reading is the faulty component.

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair
      @LearnElectronicsRepair  Před 2 lety

      Yes that is another way. I've made a whole video using that method. Also did you check out this one?

    Hi Richard - I havn't seen the other videos after this - so don't know if you came up with this - but on the issue of detecting if a part gets hot after putting volts through it, I wonder if a top mounted flir camera (like they use in ghost hunting) would show different colours on the part. Maybe / maybe not - just an idea. :)

    Awesome video, did you end up taking the GPU chip off the board to see if it was actually shorting?

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair
      @LearnElectronicsRepair  Před 3 lety

      Glad you liked it! Yeah I did remove the GPU next on this video
      czcams.com/video/1bA4rxKxlqk/video.html
      And also tried to reflow the other GPU on this one
      czcams.com/video/CWqctQmx6R0/video.html
      I now have a new replacement GPU on the way, to see if I can fix one of the cards.

    Why did you not Put More Amps into The Board with shorted GPU?

    • @gellert-max-nagy
      @gellert-max-nagy Před 2 lety

      If you inject higher Voltage into the GPU than it was designed for, it will be damaged. He also explains this at 44:30

  • @bslay4r
    @bslay4r Před 2 lety

    Thank you for your videos, I learned a lot from you. However in this case I don't understand why the GPU is the shorted component, can you explain? Should the voltage drop be much higher so reading much less voltage on that capacitor next to the GPU? Thank you.

      This is an old video so I need to review what I was doing - can you dgive me a time stamp of the confusing part and I will take a look.

    Thanks. I learned a lot from you. At 42: 47 ( if i dont have esr meter) i can figure out with a better multimeter witch side has lover resistance? And what happens if I send craft to the other side of the component?

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair
      @LearnElectronicsRepair  Před 2 lety

      You can find shorts like these with a resistance meter that can read milli-ohms or micro-ohms. This would be a four wire meter - normal two lead multimeters can not read resistances this low due to lead resistance amongst other things. I'll get one sometime soon and try it.

    I don’t even know what you’re testing with the volt meter, the different numbers you’re calling out, or why you’re testing the spots you’re testing. Is there a video I can watch explaining on what to test and why to test it and what we’re looking for? A more in depth video. I’m new to this, thank you for understanding.

  • @waelsadek81
    @waelsadek81 Před 2 lety

    May be it's one of the capacitors on the GPU that went short. It's worth trying to desolder them and see if the short goes away. (Not sure how easy that is).

    • @B9NE
      @B9NE Před rokem

      Actually a capacitor that size would short and turn into essentially a small wire which creates heat. A large wire essentially is a no heat short.
