You're right. It's truly one of the scariest and evil movies with so much realism used ,especially for that time period. Amazingly directed and written.
I don't think it possible to make a better version of the horror masterpiece. The acting was superb Ellen Berstyn,Lee J. Cobb and Max Von Sydow. Vintage movie. I hope these new school arrogant movie producers leave it alone.
Mercedes Cambridge drank booze, smoked, and ate raw eggs, and was tied up to provide the voice of "the demon." She had no emotional attachment to The Exorcist and did it merely to act and because she likes scary stuff. Interesting stuff.
I actually thought Max Von Sydow was that old when I first saw this flick.....only to see him in Minority Report a few decades later and still looked the same. ...'tha fuck!?!? Then I found out Dick Smith did some prosthetic to make him look older. Such a great flick.
The ultimate goal was always Karass. Satan's most prized trick is to make God's followers lose faith. Since he took that L trying to tempt Jesus the to same way, all he's got is these mini-games with humans, I guess. Anyway, yes he knew there was doubt in Karass, and he used Reagan to make him choose. To dare him to trade his own salvation for hers. But the real plan was to screw him in the end by making him kill Regan even after he'd made the choice to save her out of faith in God. Instead, he joined the Georgetown U high diving team.
The scariest part of this whole movie from the time I first saw it in the 70's is at 01:15 here, when you can literally see a second face come out of the first one glaring at the two priests. Between that and the scene with Karass's mother suddenly on the bed where Regan was in that sickly white light and it's so silent it's like there's a vacuum... Still stands up every hair on my arms.
Michael Caputo.( Karras after observing Regan's drawer opening by itself, the house shaking and the demon knowing personal information and her head spin.) Idk Mrs l. McNeil, I am not convinced this is a possession. Let me look in my medical book for bronchitis symptoms.
there wasn't much room for von sydow's character. just a washed up priest. he played it well, but for such a brilliant actor, i felt it should have been given to a no name. max von sydow played jesus in the 'the greatest story ever told'....and if you haven't seen it, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE find the 'virgin spring' movie (i found it online). von sydow's performance is absolutely stunning. movie trivia for horror story buffs. last house on the left is loosely based on the virgin spring. in the end the exorcist is great entertainment, but brilliantly disguises utter fiction as a true (it could really happen) story.
Lmao! I can never watch horror movies because they scare the hell out of me. I literally watch with my eyes closed half the time if I have to. But when I saw this movie I couldn't stop laughing. Everything the girl did just made me die laughing. Probably one of the only scary movies that made me laugh and not scared
I was taken to see this movie when I was 8 years old by my older brothers and some of their friends who took me into a theater where it was showing. It was and still is the scariest or most frightening movie of all time. It had a severe effect upon me at that age and I could not sleep properly for weeks. My grandmother had to stay with me until I fell asleep. My older brothers were told the movie, "wasn't that bad". This movie should have had an X rating. It's obscene. How sad it's loved.
It's creepy cause it sounds like she's laughing and crying at the same time.
You're right.
It's truly one of the scariest and evil movies with so much realism used ,especially for that time period.

@@wisdomseeker3362I reckon it’s Regan crying and Pazuzu laughing.

Captain howdy who the devil is Captain howdy
🤬 HIM 🤬 HIM GARAS 🤬, 🤬 HIM👿😈
0:37 is Merrin’s last stand. He knows he doesn’t have much time left and he’s losing, but gives it one more shot. Very admirable.
Yes I see that.
And also that's why pazuzu its laughing, because he knows that Merrin its dying and his revenge will be completed
Her laugh to me sounds like Ursula from The Little Mermaid 😂
Mercedes did such a hell of a job! Wow!
Her laugh makes me laugh LOL
Too me jajajajajajaj

thats crap, cuz the actress already had a weird weezing way of speaking... movies always hype thing up.
This movie always scares me but the laugh i always found a bit amusing lol!
I'm reading the book for the third time , i really like the exorcist but the film is very scary :)

@@gochem3013 yeah, it is
That laugh is contagious! Damn!
It's a woman's voice, Mercedes McCambridge.
Yes, and she is cisgender if I remember correctly - some people just have some crazy voice range.
@@sufficientframeshe's not sis anything, she's a woman that's all.
🤫👹👹👶🏻
"You killed your mother, you left her alone to die", "shut up"! lmfao
🤣🤣🤣🤣 it gets me rolling too, she's like a rambling schizophrenic
What's funny about that?
I love her laugh... Lol,
That fucking laugh, priceless

Such a great flick.
Me too, I think he's about 44 here. Not long after his roles in Bergman films.
Fun fact: Max Von Sydow was 44 playing the older version of Merrin, stellan skarsgard (bills dad) was 53 when he played the prequels young Merrin
Sounds like my Grandmother when I showed her Cyanide and Happiness
This laugh sounds like my grandma. 😂😂😂
Probably because the voice actor was an old woman
I need to rent this....
Interesting how the demon always says "F**K Him Karras" and always insults Karras rather than Merrin, it knows Karras is the weaker of the two
You gotta read the book. Demons insults mostly Merrin there.

At least zuzu doesn’t sound like a pirate like the demon in pope’s exorcist. ARRRRRR 😂😂😂
Karras was not scared he was driving the demon out of Regan.
the demon fears father merrin cause his will is greater father merrin is always on the attack love this scene.
The sampling of this laugh is in Wumpscut song called "Just a tenderness". check it out! Awesome. Especially the intro.
It came out in 1973. If you haven't found out by now.

Me when I laugh at my jokes, HAHAHAH (Enter Balak - URUK)
There's always a chick in class or at work with that laugh.
i can't believe karras didn't believe that she was possessed by a demon though he did after that
Michael Caputo.( Karras after observing Regan's drawer opening by itself, the house shaking and the demon knowing personal information and her head spin.) Idk Mrs l. McNeil, I am not convinced this is a possession. Let me look in my medical book for bronchitis symptoms.
My take is that he knew, but he didn’t want to get involved. After all, he was considering leaving the priesthood.
@@AndJusticeForMeI think once Damien saw the words “Help Me” on Regan, that was enough proof for him.
Love This Movie With A Passion
Imagining there are hundreds of these demons all laughing at Henry Kissinger right now
I love how dead or alive used this laugh for one of their songs
Something in my House! I love Dead or Alive too.
The old priest is the priest from the exorcist the beginning
I just can't stop laughing everytime I see this
Adrienne Vonyea Try imagining yourself as a teenager in 1973 and watching The Exorcist - you’d be shitting yourself in seconds.
@@LexingtonDeville984 I doubt it..I watched em all as a kid to an adult and still find it humorous. Lol
Adrienne Vonyea Then you probably weren’t alive in the 70’s either, eh?
