The scariest part of this whole movie from the time I first saw it in the 70's is at 01:15 here, when you can literally see a second face come out of the first one glaring at the two priests. Between that and the scene with Karass's mother suddenly on the bed where Regan was in that sickly white light and it's so silent it's like there's a vacuum... Still stands up every hair on my arms.

Greatest film ever 51 years young

In my opinion this is the creepiest scene in the movie. All the other parts scared me until I got older and I find myself laughing at dragon cussing at everyone, but this scene is just creepy, the way she opens the drawer, "in time" switching from latin to French to co dude Kareas into Thinking Reagan is making it up.

Watched this movie yesterday. There were some good bits in it: the X-ray machine scenes were menacing, the prologue was well executed and I liked the character of Karras. But it was way too slow and I couldn’t help laughing at some of the possession scenes; just too comical to be scary.
