    2 tier deck looks sweet. Nice improv. When you have a party, there can be a vip level, and a level for those who only brought old leftover potato salad. You'll need a bouncer.

    Holy Woodness Deckness baby!!!! Everybody loves a nice gap!!! We can never get enough. The deck is looking amazing and you getting a lot of work done by yourself. I think you could probably do a nice landing that turns to a 45° landing from deck to deck should be unique and not too hard to build. Hope you’re learning about solar and wind energy while taking pics and videos of it for work. Thanks for keeping us entertained and keep getting after it.

      If you go from the corner of the lower deck to about 3 feet away from the upper deck, you could make a continuous deck that goes to a staircase to the upper deck and I think that would give you continuity between the 2 spaces. Also, if you’re doing railings, I think, the braided metal going through the posts woodwork all the way around from the lower deck to the upper deck and would look really sharp

    At 4:25 , paint that end grain to keep water out. The floor beams look like three 2x12 sistered together. There is not much sitting on the 6x6 post, take some paint and coat the end grain on all of those built up floor beams, both ends. And protect the beams from wicking in water and rot starting.

Get a laser tape measure. They are totally worth it. Also get a green laser. Totally worth it when your alone. I think you should deck the other side as well. For continuity... 😂 Love it. Great idea for the low deck! My only suggestion is: because your ledger is not a true ledger (it's not attached to the rim joist with lag bolts every 8") you should add a support from the "ledger" to the pier. This could just be a 2 X 6 that is sistered to the post between the pier and the ledger. Right now, all of the weight is carried by the GRK screws, which don't have a lot of sheer strength. Love the build, take your time and enjoy the process! We will keep watching!

      Love your stuff too! I feel your pain with just wanting that deck there now without having to go through the pain of figuring it out. lol. You’re on the home stretch!
      My biggest regret is not having side decks on my little cabin right from the beginning, so the next thing I build (if it’s high off the ground and on a slope) is gonna have side decks from the beginning! Makes so much of the work so much easier as the build continues.

Something unique give it that woodness goodness flair.

  • @koningbolo4700
    @koningbolo4700 Před 5 dny

    29:40 I would do two platforms in angles. First one (one step down) coming of the side deck which has an edge under an angle of 30 degrees (or thereabouts), the second step down coming of the first one under an angle of 60 degrees and the rest would be flush with the large front deck... I could be wrong but it looks to me the height difference is good for two steps between the side deck and the lower one. If it turns out to be better to do three steps the do three angles platforms/steps under the angles of 22.5, 45, 67.5 degrees.
    Angled platforms/steps looks great...IMHO... You could do the angles originating from one point (possibly the (south-east??) corner of the cabin but you could also do various originating points...

    • @WoodnessGoodness
      @WoodnessGoodness  Před 5 dny +1

      Love it. I’m going to see if this could work. I think there’s room for 3 stairs

    • @koningbolo4700
      @koningbolo4700 Před 5 dny

      you can also play with the angles and have maybe one of the steps parallel to the edge of the upper deck...
      You should keep in mind though that different levels and different angles could pose a safety issue.
      If you like it to be kid and geriatric safe You could do one platform halfway between the top en bottom deck (just as if it were one giant step down) and have smaller steps to bridge the rather large drop off. These steps are best located near/at the corner of the cabin (so the cabin can act as a hand hold for those in need of one.
      This design would result in actually 4 rather shallow steps down and one large intermediate deck to enjoy (call that deck the BBQ/fire pit deck if you will) This idea would suit the lay of the land best also and be least complicated to build and most safe to enjoy.

  • @gladinator
