    Nice deck build! My ocd went haywire when you made that last riser two pieces instead of a single board like all the others

    Great stuff however ; can we hear you talk and walk us thru ? Not everyone can build decks sure would like hear your process & why? I am a finish carpenter? Which means I don’t build decks but may need one at my place? Yours looks great! Are you a contractor or subbing out?

      Thanks for your feedback ( @zephyr1408 ) we're working on improving on our content creation to give all our viewers more details on the projects we record. Some of the projects are a DIY and some are contracted to Unik Renovations.

    My questions are not meant to criticize but to ask questions. Why did you cover the main beams with rubber tape and not the joists? Why are some joists not end-to-end and offset, and others run the entire length? If the main beams were 3 thick instead of 2 thick, couldn't you have put the joists end to end? The kick plate on the last step is in 2 pieces. Could you not have made it 1 piece like the others? Thank you for the video.

    • @UnikRenovationsllc
      @UnikRenovationsllc  Před 11 dny +5

      I covered the Beams ( Girders as some people call them) because I didn't want to have water trapped in between over time.
      Some of the joists are doubled because at those points the deck is 17 feet, so I used a 8 ft and 10 ft to give me the 17ft I needed and at least a foot of overlap over the beam. Lumber comes in specific lengths and didn't wonna place a 'Special Order' for a single length joist and and spend more $$ as well. Doubling up doesn't compromise the structure. The end to end joists are upto 16 ft which was ready available.
      The last step kick plate was 2 pieces because there wasn't a full piece readily available on site (at the time of filming) other than that, I agree, a full piece would've been lengthwise, a match as the rest.
      Hope that answered your questions.

    • @UnikRenovationsllc
      @UnikRenovationsllc  Před 2 dny

      6 days, with a couple days for concrete to be ready to build on.. so 4 days of the actual building.

    Deck will not hold long, you failed to connect the main supports to the house properly, you have to bolt the support the house not just screws or it will come lose at some point.

      The Ledger Board IS secured using 5" LedgerLOK Structural Ledge Board Screws. Inspected and passed. The initial few screws are only meant to temporarily hold the ledger in place till the Joists locations are established. You should watch the video again. 22:58

    Concrete will never hold the post, you have to mix the concrete not wet it in the tube.

    • @UnikRenovationsllc
      @UnikRenovationsllc  Před 20 dny +17

      Didn't just "wet it", the concrete was properly and thoroughly mixed and given enough time to cure before building on. The video is just fast forwarded..otherwise I would a 10 min clip of mixing concrete per hole. You can ABSOLUTELY pour dry (in post holes and/or in a form) and then add water to mix in place. I've done that over 20 yrs and never failed. FYI, it's called Ready Mix for a reason.
