  • In this video, we are going to walkthrough Clock Speed. What is clock speed, is clock speed important, and why does clock speed matter? ►⏩►⏩ Check the description below for my video editing laptop recommendations.
    What is CPU Clock Speed?
Clock speed is the rate a processor can complete a processing cycle.
    Why are processing cycles important?
Processing cycles are how your computer is able to accomplish tasks like open Photoshop, render footage in Premiere Pro, or play music in Spotify.

So the obvious thought is that a higher clock speed will give you a faster processor. But clock speed alone does not tell the whole story.
Clock cycles to complete an operation
Every task you conduct on your computer takes a certain amount of clock cycles to complete. The less cycles it takes for your processor to complete a task the faster the processor.
    2.0 GHz = 6
    3.0 GHz = 3
But if the 3.0 GHz processor take 4 - 5 cycles to complete an operation then it will be less than twice as fast.
This is due to the fact that processors often use different architectures. Intel Core Vs AMD Ryzen, AMD Ryzen vs AMD Athlon, etc...
    Developments in architecture
Because of the developments in architecture from one generation to the next processors are able to conduct more tasks per clock cycle.
That is why Instructions Per Cycle (something not found on manufacture specs sheets) is just as important as the actual clock speed.
With that in mind fewer clock cycles with more work are better than more clock cycles with less work. Fewer clock cycles mean that the CPU requires less power for the processor to run while also producing less heat.
    More cores and threads mean...
Another thing to take note of is that current CPUs have more cores and threads as their predecessors (thanks to AMD for their efforts here). More cores and threads means that you can accomplish multiple tasks at the same time without slowing your computer down.
So, while the following CPUs have the same Clock Speed, one will be faster at multitasking because of a higher amount of threads.
How to pick the right CPU for your computer:
    Consider your use cases
    - Multi-tasking?
    - Burdensome programs (Premiere Pro, Blender, DaVinci Resolve)?
    - Writing papers, listening to music, and web browsing?
    Cores and Threads
    - Multitasking? (More Cores and Threads)
    - Single program heavy lifting (not as important).
    - Most high core and high thread count CPUs have clock speeds.

    - Make a processor prove itself worthy of your purchase.
    - Do your research (compare processors head-to-head)

You need to start a patreon channel with a Join feature on CZcams. Your content is extremely valuable but not many people have the time and intelligence to understand the videos. You should start building a loyal fanbase to support you for the efforts your putting in making these videos. Last but not the least, thanks for helping us save our money with your valuable content being made in such a passionate way. ❤️

I have been thinking a lot about how to provide MORE value for a membership community. Its a slow process, going to do something like this at some point in the future.
Thanks for all of your praise and excitement for my channel. :)

Thanks Ben. I appreciate this. I'm trying to make a more educated decision on purchasing a laptop. It's been over ten years and back then I just went for cheap. I'm going to be doing a lot of blender work, and art design for t-shirts and clothing as well as starting a cosplay CZcams channel. Wondering if I should just wait until the new stuff drops or dive in now. Any suggestions?

Hey Ben , is a single task like premiere pro be distributed over multiple cores at lower clock speeds or is it executed by a single core at higher clock speed, for optimised performance??

How can you find the IPC? Are you able to share the website you're using for the comparison?

IPC is usually found through math calculations. I need to make a video on this. I have a lot of other videos I am currently working on, but I promise it will happen.
