      I’m only “old” to me, and much younger people, but I always knew “pus” to be someone’s face; though I’m a big fan of old-timey comedy, including Abbott and Costello, and the Marx Brothers, and I’m sure I remember hearing them use “pus” as face, though it’s still quite amusing, to hear someone use that term today, particularly when you know the context that some people will think of today, when they hear it haha.
      Though, I’m not immune to childish snorting, for example, take young Master Grayson; I still can’t hear the “shortened” form of his first name, without giggling like a teenager.
      Such as, in one of Sasha’s earlier videos, when she looked at the first appearance of the Joker; she’s talked about what the Joker had done, then it cuts back to Wayne Manor, and she says something along the lines of: “Meanwhile, Bruce is at home, just chilling with Dick...”
      ...I’m sorry, but I don’t care how old I am, that name/word will always be met with a childish chuckle from me; particularly when it’s used like I mentioned it was in the Joker video.
      Like if a line says: “Batman couldn’t meet with X; he was too busy looking for Dick”, or “Bruce heard Dick calling out to him”, or “Dick was purple with rage, a vein pulsing in his neck”...though that last one is pretty damned obvious, and I’m not sure if any comic book author would ever be that blatant haha.
      It’s 100% childish, I know, but it has always tickled me, and I think it’s always going to: let’s face it, if I was gonna grow out of it, it would have happened by now, so I guess I’m just going to have to live with at least part of my brain, being a giggling, snorting adolescent... and I’m fine with that haha.

    Oddly, Killer Moth has turned up in Teen Titans Go while Cavalier showed up on DC Superhero Girls. So as obscure as they are, they've gotten more TV time than most of their contemporaries.

      Don't disagree with you -- but, for the record, Bob Rozakis was only 25 when he wrote this story. Mind you, he undoubtedly grew up on 1960s comics with middle-aged authors -- and overblown narrative and corny dialogue were still widely used in the '70s. Yet, in a story with so many recycled characters, Killer Moth's misogyny and Cavalier's rampant chauvinism seemed completely natural for holdovers from a previous generation -- while standing out as glaringly anachronistic, even then.
      May not seem like much by today's standards, but Rozakis showed Kathy Kane as a woman running her own business -- a far cry from "1940s cool." And, somewhat ironically (considering the point of the story was why Batgirl chose not to call herself Batwoman), he would later be the writer who rechristened the Silver Age Hawkgirl as Hawkwoman.

    Killermoth actually had a Marvel counterpart, 'The Trapster', who everyone called 'Paste-Pot Pete', and he had a glue-gun they called his 'paste gun' just to troll him. Too bad they didn't get to meet in the big crossover (the two Scarecrows did). Anyhow, he was just as much a joke as Killermoth was.

    I've been re-reading my old Batman line of comics and this one is still a standout as far as Batwoman appearing in the 70's since a Batwoman appearance in the 70's.

    Another throw back. Loved Batman Family back in the day, and remember this one fondly. The 70's version Batwoman and Batgirl team up again in two issues of the original ill fated Freedom Fighters comic not long after this.

    Of course this doesn't address the issue of Barbara's Batgirl basically having the same name as Kathy's niece Betty Kane, who was occasionally her sidekick Bat-girl.

  • @Solas67
    @Solas67 Před 4 lety +2

    Personally I love these issues and it's something DC sort of threw away and didn't think about when they did the original Crisis.
    This issue is letting us look into the better parts of DC's continuity and history as well as updating it and maturing the characters within. It's why the 70's era of DC where they're openly enjoying Earth-2 and showing the Golden Agers being older, more mature, some moving into retirement appeals to me, because we're breaking the mold of the characters forever being locked at a specific age and just being....static.
    I would've loved to have seen Kathy hang around Babs as a kind of mentor/supporting character. Babs runs into someone Kathy encountered or a case that is like one Kathy worked on and she mentors or maybe gets involved with.
    It's comics at its best to me when it embraces and runs with its history instead of trying to deny it.

      earth 2 was the perfect playground for older characters as you could play around with them and see them grow and retire. I understand why dc wanted to delete the multiverse, but could they have not rebooted earth 1 and kept it as it was while still telling new post-crisis stories, and have earth 2 be its own book?

  • @grahamcann1761
    @grahamcann1761 Před 4 lety +1

    I kinda liked the team up, (and yes, I was reading those comics when they came out,) but I thought (at the time) a better ending would have been Batwoman asking Barbara to take up the mantle (not the costume,) and Barbara becoming Batwoman. Of course now-a-days I like the new Batwoman. And, it may be mean, it may be cruel, but I think Bab's was at her best when she was Oracle.
    And then there's the Huntress. As I (we) started having kids I found it harder and harder to justify spending on the often foot high stack of comics at the comic shop. (No Regrets, and my four year old grand can name the whole bat-family, and my six year old will tell you "I am Batman!" (And Batman's a Jedi)(I am a little worried how much the younger likes his kiddie Cuthulu books.)) But I'd been a BIG fan of Helena Wayne Huntress, the child of Batman and Catwoman, only to learn she'd become a mobsters daughter? Say it isn't so . To me she too is one of the Batwomen.
    As always, for all your efforts, observations, (variety of hair,) wisdom, logic, delivery, and the video they produce, thank you so very very much.

And I love that you are so very comfortable in front of the video camera, unlike too many You Tubers. man, we need to bring back "pretty puss". Also, I love earth 2 and don't understand why it was deleted. I understand dc wanted to streamline things, but they didn't have to reboot earth 1 to tell new stories. Also, they could've kept earth 2 as its own book, with multiple issues from detective, action and wonder comics kinda like manga. And it could be playground for writers to evolve characters to have them grow and be replaced.

    Will you do a video on Galexo? The space super hero who joined Batman and Robin in the 1970's comic strip because they were going to lose the rights to use Batman, and needed a character to replace him? He's just like Batman but he can walk through walls and talk to Bruce Wayen with ESP, and when he enters the strip Batman And Robin stop doing things, they just hang out at home in street clothes, and when they do acompany Galexo in their hero uniforms they don't do anything, strictly moral support. After they finally lose the license to Batman, they contuine the stories with just Galexo on his own, (though mostly in places like Singapore because most American newspapers dropped the title due to declining art/writing quality. You can even find an image online of the strip with an editor's note explaining that due the down grade of the strip they're replacing it with the Sesame Street strip, they even go 'ugh' when refering to the Batman strip.)
    Guess what else? Even after they lost the rights to Batman, even after he permanently stopped appearing in the strip, the strip was still named "Batman: With Robin and Galexo". So by this point the strip was named after a character who didn't appear, maybe didn't even exist anymore! This needs to be put in video form because not enough people know about this anarky!

    Another great job of taking us down memory lane! The DC stories of the mid 50s to late 60s are some of my favorite because of their silliness, hokeyness and even absurdity. It is was always a treat to see them re-emerge largely intact in the Bronze Age before the Great Disaster -aka "Crisis" wiped out all that gooey richness.
    So now a request for Sasha....
    I would love to hear your take on the DC superhero team of the late 50s that predates the Justice League of America....the Club of Heroes! Maybe I'm the only person who thought they were fun but....yeah, I thought they were fun. And silly. A bit derivative. Ethno-appropriate. Ridiculous. But a blast just the same!!!!
