I cant find that find that wires with the yellow clips on? Is thar important? - also my light in dashboard is going out when i switch from parking light to driver light - any ideas?
No. Most of VWs and Audis have their reverse near the 1st speed .. by the way after this video I went and bought a c4 audi.. and it has 5 speeds and the reverse in near the 1st .. so its wrong that 5 speed has it under the 5th speed.

I'm a bit confused, why do you have the Reverse gear under the 5th gear? normally it's near the 1st gear right?!
I depends on gearbox, 6 gear gearboxes have reverse next to 1st gear and 5 gear gearboxes have reverse hear under 5th gear :)

Your idle is suspisciously high, replace spark plugs, oil and filter. If that works then it just needed a service, if not then... hmmm
