I have a S6 so it’s the newer one. 1/3 of back lights don’t work. I put LEDs but still nothing. No power at the board on the ones that don’t. Gas gauge works randomly. Oil temp doesn’t work. I didn’t really test anything when I put the LEDs other than checking for power and ground. Like always I did it in a hurry. Maybe one of these days I’ll actually diagnose it. 😂 good video!!

Sounds like you might have a board issue. Check all the traces for damage... might need a little solder. I could potentially send you my S6 cluster to test just to rule out harness issues. Have rodents? ;-)

Why would you not upgrade to LED’s? They last longer and take less power to run. Is it just to keep it as traditionalist and OEM as possible or is there a deeper reasoning?

I've not tested the LED route before but I've seen a few other makes and models with LEDs that I didn't care for. Some had bright spots in areas or seemed to bright in others. I just didn't want to do that a wind up being potentially unhappy with the result. I knew the factory green base bulbs would do the trick. Oh, and originality is certainly cool with me too.
I'd perhaps argue the "last longer" part of LED replacements. Most of my cluster bulbs were original 30 year old units. If the LED automotive lighting is anything like LED lighting in general I've been lucky to get 7 years. I do believe the Phoebus cartel is alive and well in the LED world. ;-)
