what’s your favorite era of avril lavigne???

  • @Ryann1908
    @Ryann1908 Před rokem +1

No way I can't believe our rankings are the exact same! I super share the sentiment with Goodbye Lullaby especially, I just feel like it doesn't click with me yknow. Love Sux doesn't have so many of my favorite songs but I just love the overall vibe and consistency it has, and I absolutely put it up at number 1 not just for the standard or deluxe edition but also for all the unreleased tracks from it, I know they're not like released or anything but just to see how big this era is and how much content we're getting from it is just amazing, though I do wish sometimes the lyrics were just as cool as they used to be during Let Go

omg!!! this is like finding someone with the exact same birth chart or something lol and i completely agree this love sux era has been amazing. we’re getting fed well hahaha here’s to hoping she goes back to her roots for the next album?? with very confessional lyrical styles. im excited to see what she does next.

My list is very different, but we all have our own tastes. Under My Skin is in my top 5 of any album, can happily listen each song over and over. I'd place Goodbye higher too, I think it's a decent album all the way through but like you said, maybe the issues around the production held it back from being a better record. I do agree with your top 2 on Love Sux...super fun songs and being a Blink fan I enjoyed hearing their contributions to enhance the album. Cool video 🤘😃

interesting ranking!! been stanning avril for a long time now & most people in the fandom consider her first three albums as her best work, then she kinda fell off starting w/ goodbye lullaby. i do agree tho that let go is her best lyrical work. it mainly has sumth to do with the fact that she worked with a songwriting trio called the matrix for majority of that album, one of which was lauren christy, who also co-wrote souvenir, which is probably why you love that song a lot!!
my personal ranking would probs be:
    1. TBDT
    2. LG
    3. UMS
    4. LS

Honestly such an expected AND unexpected ranking from you I was honestly surprised that TBDT is your 5th fav when you were saying it was your 2nd fav during that reaction.
But anyways loved the rankings even though some of the top 3 choices were a bit local (sorry but I know she has strong singles but LMAO)
here's my ranking and top 3:
    7. Goodbye lullaby (2011)
It used to be my 2nd fav but it's the lyrics... F***ing record labels Ew...
    Top 3:
    1. Push (live version)
    2. Wish you were here
    3. Goodbye
    6. TBDT (2007)
A strong pop punk record but she got better definitely in sound definitely and some of the songs aren't really my favs
    Top 3:
    1. Runaway (my feelings were hurt when you said you didn't remember it)
    2. TBDT
    3. One of those girls/When you're gone
    5. Head above water (2019)
Loved the production and jazz in the album and yes I low-key overhyped it for you but it is definitely a solid record
    Top 3:
    1. It was in me
    2. Tell me it's over/IFILWTD
    3. Lights out (unreleased masterpiece)
    4. Love Sux (2022)
Hella fun and just pure classic Avril with modern touches. Lyrically it isn't definitely her best but THE PRODUCTION JUST MAKES UP FOR ITTT
    Top 3:
    1. All I wanted (fav duet)
    2. Cannonball
    3. Avalanche (lyrically generic BUT THE PRODUCTION IS CHEF'S KISS)
    3. Avril Lavigne (2013)
Her overhated album full of gems and deserved a proper era
    Top 3:
    1. Give you what you like (one of her best songs, sue me)
    2. Rock n roll
    3. Falling fast
    2. Let go (2002)
One of the best debut albums ever, fight with a wall
    Top 3:
    1. Why (lyrically not great but the emotion)
    2. Complicated (iconic)
    3. Make up (such a track)
    1. Under my skin (2004)
I know I know it isn't her best album on paper but it has been my 8th grade emo soundtrack
    Top 3:
    1. How does it feel (MMMMMM)
    2. My happy ending
    3. Nobody's home

There is no way to compare Avril with Taylor because they are totally different propositions. Avril is a pop artist who makes rock music and when she appeared, she spoke to a very young generation that didn't fit into pop. Taylor is an American artist, super produced to be America's darling, despite being talented and writing her songs. Taylor understood from the beginning that she was a product and worked to be really big with a type of music that appeals to American society. Avril was a redneck from the interior of Canada who didn't know anything about the music industry at the time.

    • @NicoleMiller77
      @NicoleMiller77  Před rokem +4

they are very different. i think you can definitely notice similar melodies though. taylor definitely had a leg up with marketing. she really didn’t know anything about music industry negotiations as well though, resulting in not having ownership of her masters. unfortunately neither being nepo babies, both got screwed by certain execs 😕 they both deserved better for their early careers

"Avril has it in her to do better" - unfortunately this is such a common statement amongst her fandom and that's why most people have stuck with her for as long as they have. It's such a shame because sometimes it feels like such wasted potential. Avril has everything to be great, she just needs a better team (mainly in the writing department) around her that pushes her to be her absolute best, but she has always surrounded herself with her friends. I mean...the imput of The Matrix that wrote and produced Let Go with her is definitely the reason as to why it has stood the test of time and is still such a beloved record.
Kinda sad that basically all of my favorite Avril songs were the ones you forgot about (Justice for Runaway).

Check Instagram DM's because I messaged you a few days ago.
Avril is friends with both her ex husbands Deryck Whibley from Sum 41 and Chad Kroeger from Nickelback.Deryck Whibley worked with her on The Best Damn Thing(2007) and Goodbye Lullaby(2011) and she said she would like to work with him again in the future.Under My Skin is definitely her best album but all of them are great albums in my opinion. My least favorite would be Head Above Water, but the other six albums are all amazing.Even though you have so many unpopular opinions like on Under My Skin's ranking,I appreciate you for liking and ranking the self titled album high, though I also like Goodbye Lullaby.I also agree that most people who think that Avril should go back to her first two albums or keeping doing one genre or one type of music are pretentious and disrespectful and I agree with you on that too.Her vocal evolution is something you should react to as well. She also has behind the scenes of the making of her first three or four albums. Her vocals are amazing and she just got better with age. She's still amazing despite the fact that she sometimes has good and bad days due to health issues with Lyme Disease.Great reaction and review.
My Avril Lavigne album ranking is as follows.
I think Head Above Water is her weakest album but it still has some very good songs.Even though some of these albums are ranked lower,I think all her albums are amazing, except Head Above Water, but Head Above Water is still a decent album.
    1.Under My Skin(2004)
    2.Let Go(2002)
    3.The Best Damn Thing(2007)
    4.Avril Lavigne(2013)
    5.Goodbye Lullaby(2011)
    6.Love Sux(2022)

@@NicoleMiller77 That's great. And here are my top 3 on every album(even though, its hard to pick which are the best songs because she has too many good songs on every album.
      1.Let Go - I'm With You,Complicated & Things I'll Never Say/Mobile.
2.Under My Skin - Nobody's Home,My Happy Ending and the third is a tie between Don't Tell Me,Forgotten and Slipped Away.
All the songs on the first two albums are bangers. 10/10 to all of them so its hard to pick the best for me personally.
      3.The Best Damn Thing - Innocence,Keep Holding On,When You're Gone/Girlfriend/Everything Back But You
      4.Goodbye Lullaby - Wish You Were Here,Not Enough,Smile
