The issue isn't mosquitoes. The issue is overpopulation. The more mammals there are to bite, the more mosquitoes there will be, the greater chance for spread of diseases. The less people exist, the less cattle and other mammals that provide food source, therefore the less mosquitoes. Nature is trying to balance out and once again we are messing with it. Humans are too ignorant. Our greed and ignorance will be our downfall.

I heard about it back when. I told a friend with money to tell his other friends in Miami to oppose it. The powers in Gov usually listen to the more wealthy. It may well also lower the human female population & even be a goal.
I've lived in "rural" Florida my entire life, almost 50 years. And I have dealt with the mosquitoes every day.
Of all of these different, mosquito bourne, diseases that have been brought up over the years, I have never heard of anyone becoming infected with any of them. I'm not trying to say that the diseases don't exist, but I don't believe there are remotely enough cases to warrant these measures.
Glenn James I have to agree 100%. I have lived in coastal central Florida for 40 years and have never heard of a mosquito born virus causing a problem here and mosquitos are abundant here.

Precisely, I think the world caters to fears and dogma of the very few. It uses that as a moral high ground to churn out solutions. A number of solutions which the majority don't need, and in some cases destroy a good equilibrium, be it social, economic or natural.

I was told the mosquitoes were irradiated to make them infertile; but that they seemed to "be hungrier" than normal mosquitoes and there were complaints. I did not hear that they worked as far as reducing the populations. These mosquitoes were pinkish/tan colored instead of black.

The test was put on the ballot in the keys and a majority of residents voted to do the test, but in the region where the test was planned, the local majority was against it. So they held back and didn't do it. Now, seven years later, they have the permission of a local majority (something not mentioned in the report) and they are trying the test. But what is the test? They want to see if it is safe and effective. It was tried in several other places and was safe and effective there, but caution says take small steps. Itg seems as if every single thing you said was incorrect.

They were so thick around highways that you could not see out of your windshield after they splattered. we also had to put tight screens on the front of the car because they would clog the radiators and AC condenser. It was discovered that they loved automobile exhaust, so the cars took a beating from billions upon billions of them.

I live in Florida, I have 15 grandchildren and I am scared for their lives. Will they be able to grow up and have children? Will they be able to make it and graduate high school and move on to college? Will they ever understand what family is? Or even having a family of Their Own? Or will they live long enough to accomplish anything? Will they be the 50% of the population that's going to be gone? What can we all do to make these things stop happening? I Cry Sometimes at night when I think about their lives and what they've going through just this last year. I am so worried that they will never grow up and become adults because they will be dead! I know that sounds horrible but it's the truth. All the questions that I mentioned above are the things that are on my mind for my future generation of my lineage and others. My grandmother is 98 years old and she says she cannot remember a time in history that was as awful as this she said that even the depression they could get through it it was something they had control over. They could find their own food they could grow their own food. Family stuck together they pulled together as a community to help each other. She seen it all from having just a radio for their news. To having FaceTime now where you see the person you're talking to was science-fiction to her, it was science fiction to me I was born in 1965 and thought by 2000 we'd have flying cars and we would have phones we could talk and see people. And yes some of those science fiction things that we thought as children have come true. But the horror of what's actually happening is worse than a movie that has a virus that can be fought and people change into zombies they always find a way to make Humanity live. We're on the road to destroying ourselves and becoming extinct. I know this is a long comment but I just had to get some of this off my chest even if nobody reads it I just have to say it. I love my grandchildren so so much and I'm so so sorry that they were brought into a world like this. We never had as many problems like we do now. I have three grandchildren diagnosed with autism, which we had never heard of before but I'm sure it was around but not like it is now so prevalent. I have another grandchild that's transgender which I'm not knocking that I'm just saying it's a lot more prevalent now. Five of my grandchildren are in some kind of therapy whether it's speech or physical therapy or mental issues everyone of my grandchildren has something that is wrong with them that they have to be seen by specialist. I remember when we were kids like I said I'm 56 years old and the worst things that usually happened to most of the people I knew was we had a broken arm or finger or a leg or we got the flu. And we even got the croup and we got through it and I'm sure a small part of the population may have died from it But ultimately most didn't. However I do look back and think it's my generation that's effing up this world! That was an epiphany I just had while I was making this comment! I am so sad to the world, I'm heartbroken by what we've done to kill the Earth, I'm sorry we polluted the air, I'm sorry that we destroyed the rainforest, and the oceans, I'm sorry for all the people that have come after us that we have changed and modified your food your body's your lives!! And now the world is turning on us. And if you believe in God please he's the only way we are going to be saved from this mess. And if you don't believe in God please believe there's something more powerful than us that's going to save us whether it's a supreme being from another planet or God Personally I believe it's God but I wanted to include people that didn't believe in God. Only the female aedes is the cause of diseases but not the males those male mosquitos are pollinators since they eat pollens too. If the whole specie gets eradicated gekos and other small animals who ate mosquitos will get affected. Specially in the plant side since they are also pollinators.

Like what? It would be contradictory if people were out in masses protesting against the mutated mosquitos while they are intentionally standing outside amongst said mosquitos. Unfortunately since they have already began releasing them whatever is to come is already unavoidable even if they were to stop releasing them right now. It's already been introduced and can not be stopped. The only possible solution would ironically be more gene tampering, you can't reverse it, but through gene altering you could make the current mosquito population resistant to the changes they have just introduced. Once again though you would be getting involved with that tricky and dangerous gene tampering, but at least you could possibly save the mosquito population if they are an integeral part of the ecosystems food chain.

Public works and spending money on awareness campaigns is better at keeping dengue etc at bay. You can put a few drops kerosene or petroleum into any standing pool of water around you and these mosquitoes won't breed.
They released them in Cairns, Qld Australia. It did nothing to reduce the number of dengue. In fact I believe the cases of dengue increased.
