December 2022 freeze damage at Mark and Cindy's Food Forest in Lutz, Florida.

In this video I show the freeze damage right around Christmas time here in Lutz, Central Florida. Take a look at the before and after in the garden. It got down to 26 degrees for multiple hours and took a toll on most of our tropical trees. The mango trees were covered and faired pretty well.

I'm located on the other side of the state in Port Orange I lost a hunch of trees because they were already recovering from hurricane Ian so they were already weakend from that Lost 5 varieties of passion fruit 2 varieties of Jamaican strawberry trees,araza ice cream bean looks like yours the starfruit lost a few leaves. I noticed you don't have any longan, lychees or grumichama they took zero damage same as the jujube no damage at all maybe you can try adding them to your collection.

Sorry about your loss Drew. I had a lychee tree years ago but I lost it in a freeze. It was doing well up to that point. I also lost my jujube tree last year from the freeze. I'll look into getting the others you mentioned. Happy Growing!

Those few nights a year can be devastating. If you were a few miles south that 26 might be 30-32 which is a massive difference when talking tropicals.
I live just north of state rd 52 and the Suncoast parkway. Got 23 here one night 27 then next. Looks like a blowtorch came through. I've learned to just accept it after many losses. I'm now planting tropicals under heavy oak overstory only...
Hope we don't get any big cold fronts again this year. Hopefully your ice cream bean will be OK and fruit for you this year.

Lost my guava papaya and banana in Brooksville but it all grew back in the spring.

Sugar apples trees looks bad. Did you cover them? I think you should make another video how your trees recovered, i am interested in sugar apple bc i got one, it's in a pot.
