    Another odd thing about the show was when Sansa berated Theon and told him that he didn’t understand how badly Ramsey treated her. This was after Theon was starved, tortured, mutilated and the Bolton’s sent his manhood back to Pyke in a box.

      That actually makes sense, remember Sansa has no in universe way of knowing what Theon has been through or that he’s minus one dick, all she knows is what she’s been through and she’s taking out her pain on someone who isn’t going to slap her for her trouble. Sansa is bratty and self centered and that was on full display in that scene.

      Danaerys turning into everything she claimed to stand against at the end was the only thing I liked about Season 8. I don't understand all the people who say it came out of nowhere and that she was the protagonist/heroine of the show. There were clues all the way back in Season 1 that she was a hypocrite at heart and tons of foreshadowing about where her story was going to go. I actually started calling her the Mother of Marxists in Season 2 because that's what she reminded me of with her self righteous arrogance and all her rhetoric of "liberating" people only to enslave them herself - then I realized this was exactly what the writers were going for. She's clearly based on every real world Marxist dictator, from Che Guevara to Castro, Mao to Lenin etc, who lead a revolution to free the population from a tyrant (and sometimes not even a tyrant) only to turn out to be an even worse tyrant once they're in charge. It was clear to me as early as Season 2 that this was what her character represented so I wasn't surprised at all when it turned out that way. 🤷‍♂️

      @michiganscythian2445 Před 5 lety +57

      Sansa’s character arc makes more sense if you read the books. In there, she’s in the Vale helping Baelish to rule there, how to manage a castle and money, the economy, how to subtly manipulate people. It would make for pretty boring TV if Sansa spends an episode listening to Baleish and his steward debate on the best time to sell grain and when the price is expected to rise. Baelish also sets up Sansa with a marriage to one of Robin Arryn’s cousins and so if all goes according to plan, she’ll be the heiress to both the North and the Vale. Which is how I think the Vale knights will come to the North if the books ever get finished. Sansa in the books is also a little more badass than Show Sansa. Book Sansa carries a dagger through the Red Keep and has to crawl through tunnels to escape Kings Landing. But because the show eliminated her chapters from Book 4, we never see Sansa develop into someone who can manage a castle and supplies and give orders to knights so it just comes across as jarring in the tv show

Out of all the ruling kingdoms and houses that are left the only one ruled by a man is house Aryyn; House Greyjoy, Stark, Lannister (and the iron throne), Mormont, Karstark, Targaryen, (and previously Martells and Tyrells before they died from other women-led houses).
    So if anything, it's a matriarchal society and men are only needed as meatbags who can hold pointy objects and if Dany's complains one more time about the patriarchy then she better go complain to the Night king and get turned into the first human popsicle.

I agree here, although if some reason had been delivered before (like a connection between the many faces god and the white walkers) that justified her doing that then it would have been ok, example either Beric Dondarrion or Dany killing the Night King would have been met with way way way less hate from the fan base than Arya doing it

    • @tyrannicfool2503
      @tyrannicfool2503 Před 5 lety +1

      @Jim Johnson Ok first lets get some of your facts straight, valyrian steel not dragonglass and Jon has never been confirmed (hopefully no one will ever be) to be the prince/princess that was promised or the reincarnation of Azor Ahai, and his/her role was never specifically said to be "kill the Night King", it merely and vaguely was to stop the long night. Apart from that YES goddammit it was incredibly stupid, and so stupidly and easily fixed. I have to laugh now to every time I commented "no don't celebrate! They will ruin any star wars series they are left in charge off!" at any star wars channel.
      That said I honestly don't think social justice is the cause of this problem as much of their love to show off whatever actor they prefer at the time, this opinion I got from the videos of the Dragon Demands in case you are interested.

    • @tyrannicfool2503
      @tyrannicfool2503 Před 5 lety

      Jim Johnson I mark the difference between Valyrian steel and dragonglass because blades made of Valyrian steel are pretty much magical weapons created on Valyrian by unknown methods (presumably magic and dragon fire) and dragonglass is just of natural origin.
      Beric was also resurrected (along with lady stone heart but she is besides the point), Mel also confirmed Stannis as being the prince that was promised and currently all the red priests and their moms at the other side of the Narrow sea confirm Dany is the princess (remember gender neutral noun) that was promised. And I don’t know why would being the son of a stupid prince and his stupid bride (that for some reason just couldn’t take the logical path to getting marriage) if anything it makes him candidate for “having” the vague song of ice and fire omitted on the show.

    • @supermegho
      @supermegho Před 5 lety +2

      @Jim Johnson Jon was never confirmed to be The Prince that was Promised. Mel saying so doesn't make it true. Remember she thought that Stannis was originally The Prince that was Promised and look how that turned out. Jon getting resurrected doesn't automatically prove that he's The Prince that was Promised either. It only proves that the Lord of Light still had a use for Jon, much like Beric. In terms of your prophecy comment, how can you be sure that the prophecy wasn't fulfilled, but in a more subtle way. GRRM doesn't like obvious solutions to prophecies, and I'm sure he would have transferred that philosophy on to the showrunners. Having Jon or Danaerys be the Prince that was Promised could be seen coming from a mile away, and not GRRM's way.
      Now by no way do I think S8E03 was the pinnacle of story telling, quite the opposite actually. I think a threat that's been hyped up since the very first scene of the show shouldn't be dealt with so easily and in such a BS way. But my problem doesn't lie with Arya being the one to do it.

Game of Thrones takes place in a medieval-like setting, where women don't learn to fight with swords and other weapons. Brienne is one of the few female fighters (within the seven kingdoms) and she's also quite good at it. Yet, despite of being on the same level as guys like Jaime, the hound or Tyrell, she was never knighted because women aren't allowed to be knights in that universe. Brienne is the only female character where they can really bring in the gender issue: it's precisely because she isn't like the typical woman of her universe that they can put her on par with male characters of her similar (physical/fighting) characteristics, without giving two shits about her gender. Not like what they did with Sansa/Dany and Jon, where they basically made made him a fucking slave dog.

Also, in season 5, one of the sand snakes kills Areo Hotah in one attack...and he's like this legendary warrior that guards Prince Doran. I have a dozen more examples, but I doubt you actually care to hear them. Hoping that as well. If they gloss over the potential conflict between Her & Jon over his birthright, then we know how cucked the show is. It’s certainly lost alot of it’s balls since it ran out of books to draw from. It’s why, all of a sudden, the story beelined it to the war with winter. They just didn’t know what to do, aside from the major story beats that Martin had advised them on.
      What they need to do is have Her get all “It’s my throne!” Jon be like, “I don’t care. Just stay out of my way, while I fight the Night King.” Her get all Mad Queen paranoid & set him up to die in battle, but the dragons save him against her will. Then he’s gonna have to stab her with his fucking sword when she flips out over it, because that’s what Azor Ahai has to do right?

    • @skyserf
      @skyserf Před 5 lety +30

      I didn’t take the scene that way. I think the girls shunned them because they weren’t from the North, the same way Tyrion, Jaime and the rest are regarded. Grey Worm and Missandei didn’t seem to want to linger in Westeros either.

    • @mine5066
      @mine5066 Před 5 lety +18

      You may be right, the problem is that once things from a specific perspective repeat (identity pol), those interpretations come way more easily, i.e. heap of sand...
      It may very well have absolutely nothing to do with racism, although I would add, the way those girls reacted, would have been different to the "Northener/Southener" differences, i.e. they reacted uncomfortable, irritated and almost fearful and just wanted to get away, instead of confrontational, mistrustful or oppositional.
      But still, yeah, it might be completely harmless. My bet in the context though, would be otherwise.
      Additionally, Grey Worm and Missandei can still wish to live somewhere else, yearn for their home country, don't like the climate, may not like the crude culture of the North, or whatever, without a "There is no place here for us" in reaction to people reacting negatively to Missandei.

She acts like a major badass, when she herself is very weak and pointless. She'd have died a dozen times over if it weren't for one of the strong warriors or one of her dragons saving her.
    And by the end of the last season, most of the main female characters were just annoying in how they were so full of themselves and proud. The only one I could stomach was Brienne, because she'd at least earned the right to be proud of herself and actually _is_ powerful.
    But otherwise, it's really just regressed into Game of Estrogen. And frankly, I saw it coming way back in that awful Dorne plotline.

    If any woman watches the show and thinks it's empowering then I feel sad for you.
    I feel sad that you missed out on great female characters like Book Brienne, a character who struggles in a medieval world ruled by men but still stands by her believes of chivalry and honor. Or on Book Sansa who after having her whole perception of the world as a fairy tale brutally shattered and stomped upon for years finally decides she's had enough and steps into the game. Or on book Ellaria who sees beyond the folly of war and wishes to end the cycle of revenge that might get her whole family killed.
    Instead you get caricatures of what female empowerement is. Female characters that go "boys are dumb" only to immediately follow with "Kit harington is short tee hee". You got a cyborg ninja prop that lacks any personality whatsoever. You got a female character who looks smart and people inform you that she is "the smartest person you've ever known" that instead got easily played for an entire season by the most sleaziest character in the whole show until her omniscient brother bailed her out from killing her own sister. You got a female character who avenges her family by killing the rest of her family and going "wEAk mEn SHalL nOt rULe DorNe aGAiN nyaaaah".
    You get a bunch of female characters acting like what male producers believe is female empowerement, and end up creating a mockery and meme out of it.

      @@FeralLogic I think this would be very interesting considering he allies. Tyrion, Vayres and The Unsullied are all with her because she is supposed to be better. If she shows that she is just as bad as the ones who came before, they could have some interesting internal conflict.

      @@mtheoryftw there's been a few times she was going to cause a lot of unnecessary deaths to innocents. Tyrion and Jon both told her if she did, she's the same as the rest of them. Tyrion has been uneasy with her for a while.
      I was really hoping that Sam would be so against her for killing his father and brother that she sentences him to die and Jorah kills her to repay Sam for saving his life. Since that can't happen, I want Jon to kill Dany to protect Sam!

      Got real bad in s7 but still had stuff to reveal and plotting, even if not as good. There was always the idea that next season can flip what you thought they were building, one season of this isn't a big deal, leaving room for denial. But they havent flipped it and s8 is so empty. All there is to see before you is the fan service they've been doing.

    Jaime wanting to fight alongside Brienne would have been one of the few things that would have made sense because he respects her but the writers couldn't even get that relationship right.
    However, one (of the many) scenes they completely ruined for his character was the first scene in Winterfell with Dany. I was really looking forward to them actually discussing her father's death, because Jaime always made it very clear that he never regretted what he did and knew it was the right thing to do, and Dany is facing her father's murderer, while already knowing her father was a tyrannt. It could've been such an amazing, intelligent scene and they completely butchered it. They made him look pathetic and her like a petulant child, I actually cringed watching it. Failing this one important meeting was such a shitty thing to do to both characters.
