The Virginia class is the worst mistake the US has made since they stopped producing the F-22. The Seawolf is literally the quietest submarine on planet Earth and they stopped making them because they didn't see a need for them when the Soviet Union collapsed. Now we have a major need for them once again and what do we have instead? We have the Virginia class disaster! The Virginia class is just as loud as the Los Angeles class even though it is miles ahead in the tech department, the prop the damned thing uses is so loud that everyone on the planet can track one when it starts moving. Hell, I am amazed that it doesn't cause people to call the police and complain about the noise when one starts moving!
Columbia is the replacement for the Trident and incorporates some of the Seawolf features
As a matter of FACT, the Virginia Class submarines are slightly quieter than the Seawolf Class AND each 4-5 groups (aka. Blocks) of Virginia Class are significantly upgraded over the previous Block. The initial group [or Block I ] have some retired or upgraded. The U.S. Navy are now receiving Block V(5) submarines. Yes, they carry less torpedos and have less tubes but the Block III, IV, and V subs are just as good or have surpassed theSeawolf Class in many, but not all areas of lethality and can operate in areas where the. Seawolf cannot. The Seawolf Class are much faster, but the sensors and upgrades on the Virginia Class are much easier to execute. The Seawolf Class still are feared by adversaries around the world as it was ahead of it’s time and extremely expensive. It reminds me of the f22 because it to is way ahead of it’s time after being introduced in 1990-just like the Seawolf Class of submarines.

The Trident one had something like three MIRVs and each with five megaton bombs, but I see that that they've used these half megaton, or less, weapons instead. That's because we've got better targeting ability than we used to. I understand the Russians weren't happy about that even though there would be a smaller destructive force per bomb. It's just that it's more focused on target.

I served in the submarine service for 32 years and had the privilege of training submariners from most navies around the world. Therefore, I can state with TOTAL CONFIDENCE that “Yes, the USN is good, but it does not have the accolade of being the best”. - WORSSM (Rtd) note…although I am over 80, I am still working with the submarine service and my comments are fact.
If we weren't spending our money on NATO and Ukraine and a hundred other things like that we'd have giant submarines that could lay on the bottom of the Marianas Trench for a year and not even feel it.
