- The geopolitical situation in the world is rapidly heating up. The conflict in Syria is still raging, it exploded almost in the very center of Europe when a full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine began, then erupted in Gaza between Palestinians and Israelis, the Houthis are mercilessly shelling merchant ships in the Red Sea, blocking the Suez Canal, China is carnivorous towards Taiwan. In such a situation, you need to be armed to the teeth. In such a situation, every piece of weaponry matters. The United States has begun a major modernization of the A-10 Thunderbolt attack aircraft.

So proud to hear they are upgrading the Warthog! It's a fantastic machine for ground troops! Keep the Warthog up to date!!!
There not this is just misinfo
At my last duty station Nellis AFB in the mid 1990's. I was talking to an Army officer helicopter pilot. Even at that time the Air Force was trying to get rid of the A10. The Army pilot told me Army pilots were praying for the Airforce to dump the A10. He said the day that happens Army pilots will be standing in lines to get an A10.
I was a Tanker in Germany 82-84. We trained with these guys & loved "ALL" that they do. Please don't retire them !!!
52d here (99-01) - and its an insult to call the A10 anything but a Warthog!
@@kentonraiford7490 A Wart Hog is so quick and agile the a lion would have trouble subduing it. Like its gatling gun it has raiser sharp tusks.
Yeah ... and they Central European WW3 theatre never happened ;)
Sure. So long as you're prepared to go to war in a Sherman.
@@osric1730 Okay kid. Ignorant.
Beardstalker? The A-10 will always be "The Warthog".
This is the first time I have heard the term "Beardstalker." And I worked on A-10's at McClellan AFB during the late 70's doing a wing overhaul. And as far as the age of the aircraft, the B-52 is older than the people flying them. The estimate is that plane will be around for another 20 years. C-130's have been around since the 1950's. As long as they see some value in the aircraft they will keep 'em flying.
Beardstick? Whatever became of the endearing Warthog? Quite frankly, I think the new nickname more fitting than any other should be wolverine. This plane and the pilots that fly them have the tenaciousness of that critter with the jaws of a 30mm GAU-8 and hellfire missiles, along with tons of other armament on numerous hardpoints, with a titanium tub protecting the pilot, no other name is mor fitting, And if you have ever heard the sound of an angry A-10 and the wolverine itself, those are two sounds you will never forget in your life.
When the A-10 was given the nickname of "Warthog", supposedly it was because the plane was ugly. Not so. It may not be the most attractive plane in the air, but it has a beauty all its' own. The Airforce should definitely hang onto the "Warthog".
@@popquizzz I personally prefer Warthog but I feel something like Honey Badger could work. It just won't die and kills snakes for fun.
What is a beardstick anyway. Warthog just means ugly - which it is actually.
The A-10 is why I wanted to join the USAF. Read about the A-10 and other AF aircraft in high school and knew I wanted to join. Didn't fly,but I got to test and build the bombs and missiles they all used.Long live the A-10.
Ps: Thank you for your Service’s, etc. Yes, seen A10 at GRISSOM AFB (Bunker Hill ARMY & ,BASE, , Indiana,Etc shows;Great Airplane::* absolutely “ improve, upgrades “ , etc. Seems like DESIGNERS/ engineers could make WARTHOGS even more Combat Ready…….. **Interestingly, I decided to do ARMY CAREER IN “1963-7 approx”, ( ARMY ROTC,PURDUE CADRE,HONOR GUARD, SSG.,1965-67)but , a “dead Ear “& Pharmacy School changed my life aims, etc.
I know why the A-10 has lasted so long......... IT WORKS !!!!!!
The A10 is my all time favorite Military Plane. When I first saw it in action, while in combat, saving my ass more than once when our position got over ran with enemy combatants. The A10 saved me and my Squad several times. U.S Army Veteran here. 1984 to 1990.
The A10 is my favorite also ! This Angel from out of nowhere has saved many lives !
SGT Todd US ARMY 1974 to 2010 .
that piece of military equipment needs to be kept around ' !!! it has served our men and women on the ground with great purpose, saving life and getting bad guys out of the way , destroying enemy artillery, it would be a great idea for the Gov to build some new updated version to have them in our arsenal I'm a 59 year old guy and I can remember visiting my brother in Tucson Arizona when I was a young lad at Davis monthan air base , he was a crew chief working with the a 10 , I was impressed by that plane and dreamed of being a fighter pilot some day .
Me too.
The A-10 should stay for the American military we are going to need Mother Hog when China comes knocking at our door.
US does the knocking all over the world looking for shit, its in your culture and dna.
The Pacific will keep them outside.
The chinese will never come to America. They can't even transport enough troops and equipment to invade Taiwan 😂
I don't think China will be knocking on anyone's door most of their weapons are copies of Russian weapons system
China isn't that stupid.
Absolutely love the A10 warthog since the day i built the scale model way back in 1981, not just for its rotary cannon but the aircraft look and its capabilities and durability as a whole 👌, what a beast !!!
It's not anymore durable than anything else.
It seems the Pentagon has been preoccupied with other priorities (LGBTQ classes) to plan a replacement for the warthog.
In 1988, as the Superforeman/Test Cell Engineer [that was my company-given title, not of my choosing] at Hawker de Havilland Victoria Ltd, I, together with a group of fellow Engineers & Specialist staff, visited several US military aircraft manufacturers for instruction & hands-on training for the upcoming Assembly & Test of the Australian Army's Blackhawk & our Navy's Seahawk Helicopter fleets.
My first task was to gain insight into the upcoming Inspection/Assembly/Test [AIT] of the T700-GE-701C [Blackhawk] & the more powerful -401C [Seahawk] engines powering those choppers.
This training was at GEAE's Main Engine Facility in Lynn, Massachusetts, and one of their Depot Level Maintenance [DLM] facilities in Arkansas, Kansas [for the later DLM support program for our Army and Navy].
My second task was to gain experience in the Assemble & Test of the Tail & Intermediate Gearboxes [Transmissions] for them at the Sikorsky Helicopter Facility in Stratford, Connecticut, as I was to have the added title of Inspector-In-Charge for those chunks of Metal & Magnesium final sign-off before submission to our Government's Department of Quality Assurance [DQA]! The critical gear contact area being the most significant concern to prevent premature failure that could result in the destruction of the airframe and the death of the crew.
Hell's bells, what's another added cap to wear without any extra pay 😆 😂 🤣.
What has this to do with the infamous A-10 Warthog? I can hear you ask.
Well, while I was at GE's Lynn plant, I got to play with the TF34-GE-100 engine, which powers the Warthog.
There was also an A-10 on-site that I got to climb into & over, which was awesome.
Thus began my love affair with this ugly duckling of an Aircraft that looked so brutally aggressive ❤😮.
I was used to seeing our RAAF's fleet of sleek MD FA-18A fighters whose engines I was also responsible for testing, the GEAE F404-GE-400 😊.
I left GE, Lynn with an A-10 stubbie holder, a Warthog & a TF34 lapel pins 😅, a lot of information about the A-10 [almost more than for the T700 that I was there for 😀] & an appreciation of an excellent attack aircraft. 🎉👌
Ha! I did the same thing, a grown adult building plastic models. I saw them down in Tucson zipping around slow and nasty early on 81'. This is a real aircraft that pilots love to fly.. Did not have much wire then. All guts and glory.
@@Khuros what ignorance!
The best day in my military career was when I stopped my car in between 2 ranges on Ft Drum. I checked with range control when the A-10's were practicing Live Fire. I had my parents with me and we standing on the side of the car as 2ea A-10's started a strafing run. I was laughing my ass of as my parents were in shock. Thank you Air Force!!
The A10 is definitely one of the best. When the grunts on the ground refer to hearing it coming as the sound of freedom,it reminds me on how many Vietnam vets that referred to the Hu-1 (Huey),in the same context.
When I was in the dirt on 3 different tours we loved hearing it burp it the bad guys are done, please keep flyin
I was in the Army for 7 years and we called the A-10s Warthogs! Those Warthogs had serious attitude! The only support Aircraft for the Army. Next best this is the AH-64 Apache Helicopter. Give them all to the Army with their funding allocations. Air Force doesn't want them fine! Army needs them! Upgrade the A-10 to the max!
The Warthog and the Buff getting upgrades is the best news! :D
As a Buff Tech and a love of the Warthog, there the best aircraft the Air Force ever had and has.
There is an old saying on the battlefield. "When Brrrrrrrtttttt speaks, the conversation is completely over".
The battlefield is a changing environment. While I love how it supports our ground forces, I absolutely HATE the way the Air force spends out taxpayers dollars and the fact we only have what 250 of these things................Woefully inadequate quantity of weaponry folks. And the F35 cost is ridiculousness. $82.5 million each delivered. Not withstanding maintenance and service requirements an estimated life cycle cost of the program exceeding $1.7 trillion. But hey let's give away 3 trillion for student loan debt forgiveness...........
Try to imagine the demoralizing impact on the enemy when they hear this humongous FART in the sky, followed by the enemy's entire area being obliterated by the A-10's GAU-8 30mm Gatling gun. Now imagine the soaring joy in the American troops when they hear that big FART in the sky! That is what close air support is all about!

Pound for pound, this is may be the most effective warplane ever. And to anyone on the receiving end, it must be the most terrifying thing imaginable. This is a real warplane.
A1 skyraider paved the way for the A10 don't underestimate it.
I worked for a contractor for years as the head of the western regional administrator for nine various aircraft and the A-10 is hands down a craft we don't want to discount. This craft has agility and firepower and this new update will make it absolutely essential.
They're doing the upgrade because it's the best damn ground attack aircraft in the world par none ! They need to build more of them. Hundreds of them !
I was in the Army,an I heared the roar of the A10 an seen the distribution it brings and I feel we need to keep it in service for our ground troops as long as there's a war
A fantastic upgrade to a fantastic aircraft. LONG LIVE THE WARTHOG.
I hope the warthog, live long , and prosper🇱🇷
It's even better with the optional Hover-Module.
A10 warthog saved many loves
Never retire it at all.
I actually worked on some A-10s, whole lot of kick ass in a small package. They can fly extremely low and quiet and as another here stated, "If you hear the Brrrrrrrrt you were not the target".
This is one of the best aircraft ever made. For close infantry support and tank busting. Keep using it because it’s the best.
They need to build another 2500+ planes. They are too awesome to retire or lose. Be Strong Everyone. Stay safe.
Hey hey hey:) being 13 yrs in the army..I seen those loud thundering warthogs in action..total destruction!
As long as there are "men on the ground" there will be a role for the Warthog or its successor. I hope the designers are smart enough to maintain the approach of slow and deadly. There is a reason that the Warthog has been defending western culture for almost as long as I have been alive.
Let’s you know that the voice of Experience is heard ! Thank you all of the
Men and women who have covered our Warriors Six !
These A 10 are the best because they are flown by the BEST.
You can call it a WARTHOG or you can call it the THUNDERBOLT II or you can call it by it's new nickname "BeardStalker" BUT don't ever call it late for dinner.

@@colinjames7569 I worked in the USAF logistical system which supports that weapon system.
USAF all the way. I have a buddy who was in the Air Force as a "boomer" (the person who operates and aligns the shuttlecock with the nozzle of a fighter jet for midair refueling). He said the A-10 is one of the baddest ass warplanes ever built, and their pilots are highly respected.
@colinjames7569 key west accords. US army does not operate fix wing aircraft (outside the sherpa). The airforce operates the a10. For a channel who's name is military news, I would of expected such a simple fact to not have been over looked. And since u seem like u love asking for creds or sources. I got 23 years in the US army.
True...but the US marines and navy uses them
One should always trust the opinion of the pilots who actually flew the A10 combat missions over those of behind the desk generals.

I love that plane always have always will. Best plane ever in my opinion next to the F-15c,d,e,and ex.
I love A.-10s. They just do too good of a job to be replaced.
Just build more of them. The survivability of the plane and it's pilot should keep this platform in Play regardless of costs and politics.
Compared to more modern and less capable aircraft for the type of combat they are intended for, the A10 is by far the most cost effective solution. They can build 3 for the cost of 1 of the newer planes.
Pilots have often said, when the A-10 is fully loaded, it could use stronger engines.
Upgraded with a Rolls Royce engine like the Buff?
Simple answer. Unload some of the payload. As I understand, it is pretty good at that. 🤣😂😅😂🤣
I've experienced this aircraft in action, many moons ago and I cannot think of anything that could be better. These rigs come in low and slow and silent then rain hellfire upon the enemy. No high speed jet could do this. Furthermore since leaving the military I've had them training in my mountains which only solidifies my opinion of these awesome machines. To supersede these aircraft would be a detriment to our readiness. Period.
A10 is very slow and VERY loud... A fast jet would be able to hit a target many miles out and be gone before the bombs even land. The a-10 is far too slow for modern wars.
Mr. Hobby Farmer:
I do not know about you, but, as just a dumb scheiß Marine Colonel, retired Professor of Plasma Physics and QED (Quantum Electrodynamics), I find the constant bombastic idiocy expressed by these damnable cowardly ‘armchair experts’ to be exquisitely irritating, to be grossly overly mild. The A-10 does precisely what is so desperately needed, whenever and wherever so needed, with a competency vastly far beyond anything else that exists in reality, not merely in someone’s wt dreams. That these protohumanoidal degenerates, who have never themselves remotely dared to risk being on the receiving end of massive amounts of mortar bombs, machine-gun fire, artillery barrages, etc., know better than those of us who have been there. Damn, but how these cowardly PoS bastards boil my blood.
the F35 are like long range support artillery . the A10 can be on the battlefield like tanks. Both have different roles to play. A10 can hit many many more things they can support troops at close range , because its slow and they can be armed with a lot more . A 35 has stealth and speed but thats no good to support close combat. If the IDF had A10's there would be less casualties on both sides a lot less building blown up, A10s can take out sections of buildings , can support the troops with cover fire . the terrorist would run if they hear the engines coming @@Khuros
Can you imagine if China tries to attack Taiwan and the A10s effect on any invasion attempt.
Yup massive A10 destruction. Apparently you were not paying attention to the fact it is NOT capable against more than medium defense systems and woefully inadequate against high defense systems. That and the fact the J35 outnumbers the Air Force by a 3 to 1 margin at minimum. This is the effect of Weak Leadership and lack of focus of Deterrence by Strength.
Mr Treasonous Bifen said China is not a threat.................I CALL BS.
Can you imagine why China wants Taiwan? Something about one of the most key high volume A.I. chip-makers on the planet.
Perhaps the best scenario of all for the Hog.
Can you imagine if the US had enough sense to stay out of ANOTHER CIVIL war, saying China INVADES TAIWAN is like saying the united states invaded TEXAS... for Christs sakes, I hate all the warmongering in the USA
Mmmmm i'm not sure the a-10 would be of much use there, china is a very advanced adversary that would have EXTENSIVE anti-air systems and would undoubtedly have a SHITLOAD of the in any invasion force, not to mention the aerial battle for superiority which even though we would probably win it would still be dangerous for a-10's to fly sorties. But mostly i think it would be too vulnerable to manpads and also AAA and SAM.
The A-10 is the best close to ground air support ever invented . If the rest of the air cover is doing its job clearing the skies for them, knocking out radar and guided guns. They are air superiority for the guys on the ground taking
The fight close to them.
In most wartime situations the A-10 is not a first strike ground attack weapon, the F-35 plays that role with the stealth and agility to get in, take out the attack systems capable of bringing down A-10s. The role of the A-10 is close in air and ground support, suppression of adversary strength positions without advanced targeting and weapon systems. The A-10 role is versatile and hardly unique, easily adaptable to many missions with a variety of capable weapons systems. The problem with our leaders behind the stars and bars is that the forget what real war is and the support that's required in wartime air to ground battles and there are really two types of close range craft that can support these roles, the A-10 when it comes to fixed wing craft, and rotary blade helicopters for other missions.
I love the Hog. Please 🙏 keep it.

"Beardwalker"? Well it be a shame to replace it. And there's nothing that comes as close to as good as the A10 is. And if the A10 cant do it then it probebly shouldent do it. Might be better ways to deal with that target anyway. Like something it cant shoot down like a tank or a missile thats to fast for the AA to deal with. Might boost the terror factor to, making them think long and hard before they do that anytime soon. And the sound of the A10 and its gun is a huge moral booster for its allies.

As a forward air controller you need this plane in the quiver of choices. Nothing better than this A-10 in a permissive environment. No you're not- you were a noner serving sos in the chow hall. stuff your mouth with rubbish.
I generally prefer the AC-130 myself.
"In a permissive environment" Good luck finding one of those in a near peer conflict. Why do you imagine nobody has even discussed sending A10s to Ukraine? What you're actually saying is nothing beats the A10 when it comes to hosing irregulars on a moped. I agree. A Stuka would do the job too. Both equally obsolete on a modern battlefield however.
@@osric1730 Pretty much. If it is a permissive environment, then why not go with the AC-130? More munitions, *far* more loitering time, and far more precision in delivering ordnance to targets.

My money on America. We bad azz and top notch.
Back in the 80's.I lived near a base that housed 99 of them. They were in the air all the time training.
Yes!!! NEVER GET RID OF THAT SYSTEM!!
The missing context about the A-10 is the air dominance / superiority doctrine of the Air Force. In other words, the A-10 will not be a play in close air support in a high threat anti-air environment until most if not all of the sophisticated air defenses have been neutralized, leaving pretty much just the manpads to deal with.
This was the case in the 1991 Gulf War and the second war against Iraq. The A-10 was very effective in both at a time Iraq had one of the densest air defense systems in the world. How did that happen? The Air Force first neutralized Iraqi's main air defense systems and the A-10 had to deal mostly with the should fired anti-aircraft missiles and ground fire, which it did with great effectiveness.
The A-10 will be as effective as the Air Force can gain air dominance / superiority.
Give them Trophy APS like on Armor.
In a high threat area, there would be layered air support assets. They would take out the missiles long before the A-10 hit the combat zone. No one plane is going into that kind of operation alone.
What is happening today with these skirmishes, is that Unites States is preparing for a world war, & learning about these opposing countries, & what their strategies are, & and how they defend. A great & necessary strategy for the opposing force to win.
When you hear that cannon roar You know u got a friend named A10 💪
Outstanding keep it from Air Force Vietnam veteran Milton

I am a Gulf 1 vet and can say the A10 was and still is a fantastic aircraft capable of taking out tanks and helping troops under severe fire. It helped us out so let's keep it.😁
Unlike most planes, the A-10 was designed around the GAU-8/A Avenger. When they designed the F-35, no gun was initially planned to be installed in or attached to the plane. The A-10 has a major role in protecting ground forces that are advancing through terrain with the use of its gun. Just the sound of its engines has made enemy forces retreat. Also, the F-35 has had several problems with its mission capability, especially during adverse weather conditions.
Some politicians have finical ties to the manufacture of the F-35 which could have been the cause for trying to push out the A-10. If the Air Force (the ones that operate the A-10 and not the Army) wanted the A-10 to have a stealthier profile, why didn't they upgrade the styling of the wings during retro fit and give the aircraft a coat of non-reflecting stealth paint?
Because rain bouncing off the plane and as well as pylons give off radar signature. They need to give it Trophy APS to defend against MANPADS.
@@knowahnosenothing4862 Yeah, that manpad could scratch the paint or something.

Sometimes I look at my paycheck and get sick at the amount of taxes I get taken from me. But then I remember “BRRRR” and I’m not as sad.
Keep the Hog … PERIOD
It's like the B-52, it's a venerable part of our military force because there's nothing better at its job. You don't scrap the best, just improve it to remain that in the future.
if it ant broke dont try to fix it
Meanwhile every single aircraft has better tank killer stats.
@@Khuros proof?
Just google stats. The f-111 was far better at tank killing. The a-10 is useless. It's just been a massive PR campaign from the fighter mafia making shit up for more than 2 decades.@@sjsharksfan8573
I will never forget when I was in basic training and we had a full bird colonel visit to tell us the importance of our military. Many in my class were tired and disinterested at first. The colonel was talking about the importance of small details and being focused, intent, driven, and performance. Every task and responsibility was vital to every mission and weapon. And then he said, "In combat, I would give up my grandmother for an A-10, so you make sure it is perfectly functional." My favorite aircraft since. Best to those pilots and the servicemen they help protect.
That BRRRR sound is the sound of life - you hear it and you know a brother is watching after you from the above...
Hog, turned Walker...now, the HOGWALKER!?* Way too important in many conflicts.
The narrator misspoke near the end of the vid. Someone decided it should be called the BeardSTALKER as in stalking enemies with beards (think Taliban.)
@@emmettwilkes8631 Not sure that anyone will call it anything other than its best and original name; THE WARTHOG!
Beardstick? Whatever became of the endearing Warthog? Quite frankly, I think the new nickname more fitting than any other should be wolverine. This plane and the pilots that fly them have the tenaciousness of that critter with the jaws of a 30mm GAU-8 and hellfire missiles, along with tons of other armament on numerous hardpoints, with a titanium tub protecting the pilot, no other name is mor fitting, And if you have ever heard the sound of an angry A-10 and the wolverine itself, those are two sounds you will never forget inyour life.
All kidding aside...they can't take the WARTHOG out of the plane. Too endearing and accurate; a HOG with WARTS is coming after you!
Perfect name for a plane of its stature and appearance. Not only that, but it can be in a fight, be beaten up but never lose, and come home at night to roll in the mud! LOL.
I consider this 2B one of OUR "sickest" military aircrafts, & with ALL those missiles loaded on it, That's enough to make the Devil itself think twice...!!!!! 👿
Let' see, now. Blacksnake, Beardstalker, Beard Fighter. Oh, yeah. Warthog and Thunderbolt II. Geeeeez. What a lot of names.
With all the multiple threats we face around the globe, we'd be crazy not to squeeze some more life out of these historical Bad Asses! I bet a Ukrainian pilot would welcome the opportunity to train and fly these in combat the way you described! Our US tax dollars hard at work.
Hasn't this conflict in Ukraine taught us to keep all our older weapons and munitions?
The Basic Principle Why the A10 is Absolutely the Best Enemy Killing Machine is Because it fills the role of an Air Borne Tank . The Design of this concept was to suppress the Russian Tank Forces. When American sets their sights on an objective reality and turns loose the entire creation ability of American Industrial Might, it’s what you’d think would happen
Best friendly fire machine ever created.
I would have to disagree a bit with you. The best reason is that it puts armaments/fire on target. When I joined the Army in 1977, we all knew that the USAF had a bad reputation of flying too high and not getting fire on target. It's why naval air support was preferred because they would fly low enough putting fire on target. The A-10 reversed that reputation by actually performing effective CAS missions.
@@julieinthenorthwest4594 The gun was so ineffective that it hit friendly's more than it hit the enemy in close air support. The optics were so bad at shot friendlies as often as it shot enemies. The only effective weapon it really had were missiles and the f-111 had dedicated optics for that and was far more effective.
These A-10's are beast. I hope they don't retire them anytime soon. They remind me of the great B52's. I live in Michigan and was close to Wurtsmith Air Force Base when it was still active. To see all those planes take off was so awesome. I lived in Tawas at the time and could hear them from there. Hope they never do that to a Air Force Base again. There was a lot of great people there and the town relied on there business.
I always thought that the A10 was way too good a close conflict to retire. Good move really.
God bless the A-10❤ may it live on forever
If the new more modern planes have silenced the enemy anti air capabilities, why continue using these expensive planes, from what I see as, cleanup roles . Maybe the logistics trail could explain it. Whatcha think?
The A-10 is about the least expensive assault aircraft there is.
I LOVE THE SPAD, COMING IN AT TREE TOP LEVEL , GUNS BLAZING, AND PICKLING, SOME NAP AND SANKE
As an Army veteran I have witnessed the Army snatch defeat from the jaws of victory,
A-10s usually only fly AFTER air-superiority is achieved.
As an aircraft battle damage tolerance engineer the A-10 stands out far more than a F-16 or F-35 with its high survivabiity thro' high degree of airframe and systems redundancy as well as its ability to operate out of shorter semi-prepared airstrips. The F16s have just been delayed by 6-12 months to meet full mission operational capability. The upgraded Super A-10 will also have defensive air to air missiles. Perhaps there has been too much focus on the F16 when its Swedish JAS139 Gripen alternative should have been pursued at least in parallel. "Baskets in put eggs your one don't" springs to mind and 18 months lost.
