Progress update on new southern portion of NC-540 from Turbine Interchange at junction of I-40/NC-540/BYP-70 west to existing NC-540 at Hwy-55 near Holly Springs, NC.
Thanks for the update! They said on WRAL that this section is due to open this spring. It looks like late summer is a more realistic timeframe. That section at Holly Springs Road needs a lot of work as well as the turbine interchange at I-40…
Yeah they are saying this year, but in my opinion it will be late this year and of course that is dependent on weather, a lot of people looking forward to it finishing up.
Nice updated video. Would love to see a video going the other way, over the area from I-40 to where it connects to the other original end up in the 64 bypass area
Thanks! Wonder if they’ll continue adding concrete from Old McCullers to 54 or if the final surface will be asphalt. That would be a lot more concrete to do!
I think there's a LOT more money up there, than down here. If they could have, but they didn't, it probably has to do with more people with political influence living on the north end of the county rather than the south.
@@douglasw7806 I understand.. but its not fair to the northern and western wake county residents because they make more money... South and East Raleigh is older too though...id just get rid of tolls altogether....North Carolina was know for having an extensive highway network without tolling ...now we're just like everybody else

Haha...was just driving home from the beach and I mentioned to my wife how much I enjoy your videos marking the progression of this intersection, and here you give a great update---thanks! Do have a question: when you do the long flyovers over the length of 540 stretching back to the west, where are you controlling the drone from...? ie what is the max range from operator of such a drone?
@twodogsandtheirfamily I hope to get up there this week and do a time-lapse of the new traffic flow pattern, been very busy at work this week, it's coming I promise.
I wonder if I-540 will take the number I-640 when it is completed? It should. Just like I-520 in Augusta GA should be I-220 or I-420. These highways should both be even numbered since they are not spurs. On the flip side, our Long Island Expressway here on Long Island should have an odd number since it is a spur that dead ends at the end of Long Island. It should have a number like I-995 for example and not I-495. Unsigned I-478 and I-878 should have odd numbers as well.

That should be coming in the future, I don't think they have even cleared any land yet going that direction.

Glad we're building it but hate the fact that its a tollway... Weird they are not tolling from 87 to 40 on the northern 540 portion

A lot of very steep slopes and some natural springs, it appears. I predict some problems in the not-so-distant future.

Long flights like this is done in sections using multiple pilots and VO's (visual observers) to maintain VLOS (visual line of sight).
Any update on NC42 at I40? The diverging diamond is now open there.
