I have the perfect OG solution, Michael. The record producers could easily make what I would call Original Pressing Replicas (OPR's). OPR's could be specifically remastered to sound exactly like the original. Speaking of Blue Note, I know Joe Harley isn't particularly keen on verbatim copies but there is a growing segment of the vinyl community that prefer the OG's as witnessed by the exorbitant premiums they pay. For example, Blue Note could do away with the Classic Line and offer OPR's (OG replicas) and Tone Poets (Audiophiles). Both would sell like hot cakes and you would see the current extortionist OG price premiums drop like a rock. Of course this approach would be applauded more favorable by the music loving/listening crowd, more than the so-called collectors who are commoditizing vinyl media. Smh. The new race to the bottom. Anyway, press OPR's and take my money!

Buyers Club is the perfect name for. There are collectors who love to search and hunt for their items, and there are buyers who just want to throw money after it.
If this monthly subscription is paying for all the work involved in tracking down these pressings wouldn’t it make more sense to add an admin fee to each purchase. This way you are only paying for the service when it is used otherwise you are being charged when not using the service.
That was the crux of my comment that vanished Mark. Putting the name of this dealer behind a pay wall, rather than just sharing his business name left a bit of a sour taste. I'm happy to share names whenever I find a good dealer, tried to get something similar going on Michael's Discord channel. Unfortunately it never grew any legs.

Sorry, but originals do not always, or even in most cases, sound better than modern pressings. You are starting to come across like a businessman Michael. I enjoyed this channel much more when you were just a casual reviewer. Now, too many videos.
I disagree, originals and first pressing sound much better than current reissues in most cases. I have sold many reissues after getting first pressing because the reissue was ok if you never heard the original. I really feel like the labels are very lazy about quality now for reissues except for a couple labels I like.
I wonder what happened to Discogs? When Michael made his first complaints about Discogs a little while back I was wondering really what he was talking about since I have mostly good experience with Discogs. The last 3-4 months it seems like a lot of "good" records have really dried up and you end up buying from buyers that have no clue about grading records. Last record I bought was a very good+/Near Mint graded record (Michael Jackson - Off The Wall) that looked like it had been in a bar fight. This is not the only case lately.
Dude I literally paid 50 bucks for a near mint version of (EPC 83468) I believe it is the first UK pressing, not sure. But the same thing happened to me. No scratches but It looked like a radio station played it with a DJ cart over, and over again (bad case of wear). Was really bummed since my other copy is a VG+. I can forsure agree that Off The Wall is a hard one to find, US FE 35745 pitman especially!! The seller did not like my feedback either, but maybe he should of thought about that before charging 50 dollars for a chewed up piece of plastic. Hopefully, more people can be aware of this. Also try to buy from sellers with 100% positive feedback.
@@thomascars1 True, this seems to be the only way now. Hopefully paypal protection work well with vinyl as well. But after buying hundreds of records there, from reputable buyers, I have virtually had no issues up to now.
Hi Michael, good idea but given that clean original pressings for many titles are in limited supply this will only push prices up. Best to use your influence to get record companies to reissue all analogue re-pressings at reasonable prices. The Blue Note Classics series is a good model to follow. This applies to rock and jazz - different for classical music where clean originals are in good supply for many titles.

Great idea Michael 👍 I guess like most here, I have been very lucky and very unlucky with my Discogs purchases. It's best to complain straight away and get their customer services involved if they don't reply. In one instance, the sellers account got blocked until the issue was dealt with and in the end the shipping cost was paid back. In another case they agreed to repay 100% because the supposedly NM/M album was only VG. I kept the record too.
This is an intriguing proposition and I really appreciate the effort it must have taken and will continue to take to make happen. Also, the generosity of Michael to share his access to these services with his community while I believe most would either keep it to themselves or seek to profit from it somehow. I don't believe there's been any mention of prices paid for the recent OG acquisitions that have been shown. Of course the price of any particular record will be determined by it's scarcity, demand and condition but is there any approximation or estimate of the costs we're to expect? Are we talking about hundreds of dollars per record or more?
Whilst Michael hasn’t mentioned the cost of some of the obviously very expensive records (let’s assume they are super spendy, if you want one you have to have a lot of money), but for some of these like Rage In Eden Michael said it was about £5, then you have taxes and delivery… I’m in the UK and fortunately the vast majority of records I want are actually British in origin.

I have great respect for Michael and his channel + see the overwhelming enthousiasm, so I might be missing something 🙂 Here are my questions: 1/ Are you imagining that, to keep shipping cost down, Original Buyers Club members from a same area team up in the order process? Say I want 1 vinyl and I am in no hurry… Will I state my order and wait until there is a significant order from members in the Paris area to get it (even if that means going into town to someone’s place to retrieve it)? Or is this due to stay an individual purchase? 2/ I don’t know how large David’s collection is, but isn’t there a risk that a larger group of us will quickly buy him dry of good OG? Will the club be looking for other quality suppliers in the same country? Or is it that David’s role is to hunt the Uk market for the reference one of us has put in the online Excel? 3/ When you say it will be Discog prices, what do you mean? I typically like to get « a good deal », like buying a near mint pressing with imperfect sleeve for an average price. Is this not the place for this? 4/ Do you plan on there being any buying/selling/trading done between Original Buyers Club members? Not just « top-down »… I have OGs that I’d be willing to trade/sell to local members… This is the type of community that is missing too. What are you talking about? Of course he’s profiting. Michael’s literally just putting you in touch with a few private sellers. For this he’s getting nearly 400 people a month to pay him 5 euros. Good racket!

I too am frustrated with inaccurate grading, descriptions, and poor packaging from Discogs/eBay... (and split seams from Vinyl Me Please's flimsy boxes on the reissue front but that is off topic)
I didn't even get halfway through your video before joining! The subscription price of $4.99 is well worth it. I've spent a lot off ebay and discogs trying to get original pressings and it's a real crap-shoot. Most of the time I've been disappointed with overpriced/overrated vinyl copies that are full of crackles and pops. Besides the overpriced vinyl, the $30-$40 euro or pound shipping cost is a real nightmare. Knowing you can source good condition originals for us is a godsend, you are doing us a real solid sir!

When I go to the link you provided there is a button that says "upgrade" i just push that button and choose the buyers club and now I am even more cooler than I was before. Excuse me if I am mistaken, but how is this service any different than just selling access to a network of record dealers? Why not just recommend to your viewers the sellers with whom you have had success rather than being a paid gatekeeper? Every record collector I know has his or her go-to dealers. Finding these people is part of pleasure of collecting and sharing your sources among friends for free is just being a decent human being.

I will try it. I can absolutely recommend the dealer Black Plastic in Germany. I've bought many excellent originals from them and always packed well and graded accordingly. Do not know if they play grade though
I am not sure if it was your live stream with Chad or on Rachel's post-stream show with Chad, but he said that he always wants AP's versions to beat the originals (which in my mind means that the mastering engineer is changing something). Your journey has started with audiophile pressings and are now leaning towards originals, and most of your comparison videos favor the original. Will Chad want you to compare his AP against the OG and will you still be friends if you become an "OG" only type guy? 😊 That is a rhetorical question and not a truly serious question regarding friends! I wish you the best luck on your venture. Of my 900 vinyl albums, the first 550 are the original pressings from Canada (not country of origin unless a Canadian artist) and my current path is to buy good sounding music, even if that is a Mofi. The Eagles One-Steps sound great to my ears, and not bright! Chad said that if it's too bright, it would drive people from the room! Cheers

Michael, apologies but I am unclear on how this works. As I understand it, your UK contact, David, will chase down an exact copy of the record I am looking for, including the exact matrix number (meaning I have control over choice of pressing plant for the OG pressing?) In terms of pricing, will David base off of Discogs pricing of a comparable pressing? Or does he take his cost and add a fixed premium (in which case how do I know what his cost was?) I like the idea but Discogs works well for me, even though I realize the platform takes a cut (8%?) Thanks.
I will be visiting Berlin soon. Can't can you comment on the most important Krautrock releases where the original pressing will be the most important but also possibly reasonably priced? any record store recommendations in Berlin for German issues of the Beatles?

This reminds me of the private restaurant I use to valet park for. If you want records there is Ebay and Amazon both of which protect the seller on every purchase. Service is a good thing. But does everything really have to be monetized? Where is the dedication to discovering things yourself? Simply being allowed to submit lists of so-called "grails" for money is kind of lame and hurts the community, since it's more and more about what someone is willing to pay. Just my 2 cents but maybe worth a discussion.
@@triodoipv6769 That would be a lot. But I don't think 10% do that. Although it is completely unclear whether it is even possible to find larger amounts of these "grails". And: Will my list be discarded immediately as soon as I leave the club? So if I've waited 12 months for my "Grail", I've invested 60€ for nothing. Don't really understand the model. And like I said, you don't have to monetize everything.

This is why you ask for photos of the record. If you dont get any, dont buy it
And make sure you leave accurate comments. If a dealer gives you mis-graded records it’s important for other buyers to know…

I've spent a lot off ebay and discogs trying to get original pressings and it's a real crap-shoot. Most of the time I've been disappointed with overpriced/overrated vinyl copies that are full of crackles and pops. Besides the overpriced vinyl, the $30-$40 euro or pound shipping cost is a real nightmare. Knowing you can source good condition originals for us is a godsend, you are doing us a real solid sir!

Dear Michael, please don't say that we have to cancel and re-join. When I go to the link you provided there is a button that says "upgrade" i just push that button and choose the buyers club and now I am even more cooler than I was before. It even pro-rated my member fee from what I already payed. I hope I can get some classical albums from this and also a German only soundtrack that I want.

Looks like an interesting idea; years ago in the UK I sold many of my original pressings including DSOTM 1st Pressing :-((( what was I thinking? Now in Germany I'm trying to find them again!!! If anybody out there has a copy of Her Mystery Not Of High Heels by J Richman would be nice to hear 🙂
Excuse me if I am mistaken, but how is this service any different than just selling access to a network of record dealers? Why not just recommend to your viewers the sellers with whom you have had success rather than being a paid gatekeeper? Every record collector I know has his or her go-to dealers. Finding these people is part of pleasure of collecting and sharing your sources among friends for free is just being a decent human being.

I will try it. I can absolutely recommend the dealer Black Plastic in Germany. I've bought many excellent originals from them and always packed well and graded accordingly. Do not know if they play grade though

I am not sure if it was your live stream with Chad or on Rachel's post-stream show with Chad, but he said that he always wants AP's versions to beat the originals (which in my mind means that the mastering engineer is changing something). Your journey has started with audiophile pressings and are now leaning towards originals, and most of your comparison videos favor the original. Will Chad want you to compare his AP against the OG and will you still be friends if you become an "OG" only type guy? 😊 That is a rhetorical question and not a truly serious question regarding friends! I wish you the best luck on your venture. Of my 900 vinyl albums, the first 550 are the original pressings from Canada (not country of origin unless a Canadian artist) and my current path is to buy good sounding music, even if that is a Mofi. The Eagles One-Steps sound great to my ears, and not bright! Chad said that if it's too bright, it would drive people from the room! Cheers

Michael, apologies but I am unclear on how this works. As I understand it, your UK contact, David, will chase down an exact copy of the record I am looking for, including the exact matrix number (meaning I have control over choice of pressing plant for the OG pressing?) In terms of pricing, will David base off of Discogs pricing of a comparable pressing? Or does he take his cost and add a fixed premium (in which case how do I know what his cost was?)

Since I can’t contact you directly - may I ask you something. I always admire your perfect record storage. I asked you before where they come from and you said you had them fabricated in Germany. Can you kindly tell me a bit more (if you don’t mind sharing - and sorry for several questions - please ignore if you don’t have time! ) - are they made in a single piece or do they come apart? Are they steel? Have you had them powder coated? What do you find to be the optimal width of each section? I am about to install new storage and would love to replicate your set up if I could find a fabricator in the uk. If you don’t mind revealing who made them I could contact them direct and see if they would ship to the uk. Thank you. Once again just ignore this if you’re too busy - I totally understand! Nick

This reminds me of the private restaurant I use to valet park for. If you want records there is Ebay and Amazon both of which protect the seller on every purchase. Also there are many small record stores out there that need the support. I am sick of guys with $100,000 systems in their living room hitting me up for cash after I work cleaning swimming pools all week. No thank you.

Service is a good thing. But does everything really have to be monetized? Where is the dedication to discovering things yourself? Simply being allowed to submit lists of so-called "grails" for money is kind of lame and hurts the community, since it's more and more about what someone is willing to pay. Just my 2 cents but maybe worth a discussion.

And: Will my list be discarded immediately as soon as I leave the club? So if I've waited 12 months for my "Grail", I've invested 60€ for nothing. Don't really understand the model. And like I said, you don't have to monetize everything.
Yeah, I agree. Also, the video didn't really address the scarcity of supply problem. If anything the scarcity of supply will get worse.
