  • Everyone loves Dynamite Shrimp & Bang Bang Shrimp, but have you ever made this delicious restaurant level appetizer with easy pancake mix? It is so simple to make!
The two main ingredients in the batter are pancake mix and soda water (sparkling water)!
1 lb shrimp - peeled and deveined (thaw if frozen)
    1 cup boxed pancake mix
    3/4 cup cold soda water
    Enough oil for deep frying
    Spices to marinate shrimp:
    1 tsp each:
    Red chili powder
    Paprika
    Chilli flakes
    Garlic powder
    Salt to taste
    Spices to season batter:
    1/2 tsp red chili powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp garlic powder
    Special sauce:
    1/4 cup mayo
    2 tbsp sriracha
    2 tbsp honey
    1 tbsp tomato ketchup
    Garnish:
    Chopped spring onion
    Chopped cilantro
    Chopped green chillies
Marinate the shrimp with the spices listed above and set aside for 20-30 minutes.
Combine all the ingredients for the special sauce and set aside.
Mix together the 1 cup of boxed pancake mix, along with the 3/4 cup of cold soda water. Add the above mentioned spices for seasoning the batter, and mix well.
Heat oil at medium high heat. Make sure you oil is fully heated before you start frying.
Dip the shrimp into the batter and drop into the hot oil. Deep fry for 3 minutes. Remove from oil and set on a rack to drain excess oil. Once all the shrimp is fried, place in an even layer on serving dish. Generously drizzle special sauce over the fried shrimp. Garnish with chopped spring onion, cilantro, and green chillies. Drizzle some sriracha for a pop of color.
Serve immediately while it is still hot. This dish tastes best when its hot and fresh.
This is not the authentic restaurant recipe from PF Changs, but just a shortcut I tried and loved.

You had my attention until you put all that sauce on them. THEY ARE BETTER OFF PLAIN with dip sauce on the side.

You know what, you are so right!! The sauce makes them soggy after a few minutes. It’s good that way if eaten instantly. Otherwise it’s best to keep sauce on the side!

@@AtiqasTantalizingBitesofLife wasn't trying to be caustic towards your food or skills. I know this for a fact because I have worked in the food industry my entire life. My Italian father owns a fine dining establishment in Niagara Falls that serves CALAMARI...and believe me. NOTHING on top of fried foods is best. Any other method makes it soggy, and when your calamari is soggy at $29 USD you want it crunchy EVERY time! Chinese, Korean, Indian foods etc etc etc SAME RULE!

@@angelarigido7161 completely agree with you. Definitely fried food is best when it’s crunchy and crispy, soggy is so bleh! Thank you for your comment!
