  • China at Davos: Why Beijing's Charm Offensive to Win Back Investors Failed | Vantage with Palki Sharma
China's Premiere Li Qiang tried to woo back global investors during his visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos. While speaking at the summit, Li claimed that China's economy will grow at a rate of 5.2% against a target of 5%. However, experts are skeptical about this claim, as Beijing's economy struggles amid a rising debt crisis. Palki Sharma tells you how China's charm offensive at Davos fell short.

By end of 2019 my wife had moved all of her manufacturing out of China. One trip being held for 12 hours in an office under glaring flourescent lights was enough for her (and her family). All over a spare battery for her cell phone, her belongings were trashed, her room tossed by a team of guys. All over a spare cell phone battery. But that wasn't all it was just the straw that broke the camel's back. It just got more expensive and difficult to do business there, the more Xi and his inner circle took control and interfered, the harder it became to do business with them.

I take immense pride in my humble, hardworking, and friendly practices as an Indian Hindu. Inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, my commitment is to acquire knowledge for the noble goal of building advanced toilets, which can save countless lives in India and elevate me to the status of a national toilet hero. It saddens me deeply to acknowledge that each month, 15,630 Indian manual scavengers worldwide tragically lose their lives due to the hazardous nature of their work. I extend my heartfelt condolences to my beloved country for this tragic loss. Additionally, it is crucial to recognize the profound benefits that come with having toilets, such as eradicating open defecation, maintaining cleanliness, and avoiding the negative reputation associated with sanitation issues. The distressing humiliation caused by such perceptions can no longer be ignored, as Mahatma Gandhi once said, "It's time to stop defecating in areas where we eat, where we sleep, where we pray."

I am saddened by the conditions the average Chinese worker has to abide in China. When our company left, we paid 3500.00 USD for each of our 117 employees as part of the severage package, and even invited them to follow us to India, Vietnam, Thailand, the Phillippines, Singapore, etc. Some of them did, and are helping us to expand our business, but we are not going back to China.........

But China is a different matter, for the last couple of decades China has not shown any strength other than financial, so global business does not see any prospects for itself to "switch the side" and be confident in its safety. Everything always comes down to military power, the USA is a direct example. If China does not show its military power in action (successfully), no one will ever betray US for them.

I said it before, since Modi took office, MAKE IN INDIA actually dropped from 15% GDP to 13% GDP. India's trade with the world still only accounts for 2% of global trade. INDIA DOES NOT PRODUCE FOR THE WORLD. Yes its GDP is growing, because its population is growing and Modi is spending a lot of borrowed money on public work. But INDIA DOES NOT PRODUCE FOR THE WORLD WITH GLOBAL STANDARD PRODUCTS. It simply produces the SAME OLD SAME Indian standard products to feed the growing population and call it GDP growth.
From the world's perspective, INDIA does not matter for global trade. It is just DEAD WEIGHT. Yes, India will IMPORT more stuff. And India would even demand that exporters set up some factories to put the Make In India stamp on the imported products. But all these are just artificial stuff. The fundamental problem is INDIA DOES NOT PRODUCE FOR THE WORLD WITH WORLD STANDARD PRODUCTS.

China even claimed ladakh and arunachal pradesh as part of China even though they are indian territories. China is doing everything to bad mouth india with its disinformation campaign and is working with pakistan for the same, china has always vetoed whenever india put up kashmir issue and terrorist group who attack india, it is even buying politicians so that they don't approach india but instead China.

"India is a Retreating Image in China's Rear-View Mirror"
If I were running India, I was be concentrating on the issues of infrastructure, poverty alleviation, education and the governments own "talk a lot, do nothing" problem, rather than simply bashing China.
All major economies face their ups and owns. China is still the world's factory, with the know how, the infrastructure and supply chain to remain so. Even with this down turn, trade alone with the U.S. is at $700 billions. It's a bump in the road.
