I understand you so well. All I can say I cannot be a Christian anymore and like in the past. And I realize when I struggle with faith there is no "good shepherd" at all and when you would need so much help from Jesus in order to answer to your questions and mine. I recommend you the book written by Marlene Winell "leaving the fold" or to watch her videos. She is a psychologist ex Christian and explain the toxic doctrines in christianity and the RTS (Religious Traumatic Syndrom) like the fear of hell etc. So many ex christians are devastated and depressed because of indoctrination.

I abandobed organized religion years ago when priests and preachers began telling folk how to vote.
Instead I pray privately. I also learned from experiences and found God in Nature. The most profound experience was during a rage I had with God. As I saw it He did nothing while my life was falling apart. I demanded in angry terms that if He was even there to show me a sign...and a stray cat came out of the dark, jumped in my lap, and started purring. I learned from that and other things in Nature.

The reason for these contradictions in the Genesis is because there were a few traditions of writers that existed who wrote down their myths of that time. At one point someone put all those texts together and made them be one book. That's why there are so many repetiotions and contradictions in the Bible. The study of Bible in the Catholic church is very good lately. Still, how they decide to understand these findings is what I have a problem with.

God is the embodiment of everything in nature. That is why we can say God (nature) was there, is there, and will always be there. You cannot use science or theology to show the beginning of the beginning or the first God.
To create an Omnipotent God, you need a more complex Omnipotent God. It goes on and on and on. Who is the first God is an unanswerable question.
In nature anything and everything has to have a simple beginning and then evolve to be complex. The universe starting simple and expanding and evolving to be more complex is intellectually acceptable than an omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, benevolent Creator Being, pulling strings from the beginning.
One who tries to argue and prove that the God in his book created everything, pitifully lacks understanding?
Since God is the embodiment of everything in nature, ask yourself “Can God give books to humans?” Different contradicting books to different tribes. These different books sometimes contradict violently.
All books are written by people and are based on their narrow understanding of the contemporary world. They had no idea of Galaxies or microbes. They believed that their God created a Geocentric Universe and the Sun orbits around the Earth. They believed that plagues are divine punishments.

Take anything from nature. Can electricity, gravity or magnetism give you a book? No, but you investigate and learn about natural phenomena, and you write books about them.
Does the electric motor work differently for followers of xyz religion?
Does Penicillin work differently for followers of pqr religion?
When giant Tsunami waves came, they swept away the whole kindergarten full of children belonging to all kind of religions. This is the way of God (nature).
I am more comfortable with the Buddhist belief of Dependant Origination (cause and effect). The Law of Causation states that whatever is, must have a cause. Suggesting also that, if there is a thing or an event, then there will be an effect that will inevitably follow from that thing or event. Unwholesome actions will lead to unwholesome results and wholesome actions lead to wholesome results. We create our own Karma, as reflected in our destiny. It is vital that we respect rational, secular, humanist values.
It really does not matter, which religion you follow, or which book you read. If you are good, you are good. By being good, what I mean, is living without causing any harm or pain, physical or mental, to any beings sensitive to pain. If there is a place called heaven where all good people destined to go, you will go there regardless of your denomination or religious label.
This theory eliminates the need to argue and prove the unprovable, while we are on earth. The only requirement to reach the heaven is to be good. It is futile trying to prove if heaven and hell exist or whether there is life after death, which God in which book is the right one.
Isn’t this a very beautiful belief? Though, I cannot prove to you the veracity of this belief, just like you cannot prove the veracity of your religious belief to me, I accept this as the most plausible.
    Kalama Sutra:
Do not accept things just because they are being repeated, or come from tradition, scriptures, rumor, guesswork, incorrect reasoning, and a bias towards the subject, clever oration or mere respect for the teacher or speaker. When you know for yourself that something leads to harm and sorrow and is not welcomed by the wise, then abandon it.
The same text, said the Buddha, must be applied to his own teachings.

As a kid before school age I could already read and from reading began to experience knowledge of many different approaches to religion and religious faith in various regions of the world. I realized that humans need knowledge concerning creation, life and death because we are born with no idea of how to approach and cope with these situations in human lives. It is logical that we would seek out religious knowledge to try to answer and cope with our more basic life questions. But ALL AND EACH of these faiths claim to answer those issues which is proof they are simply blind efforts to solve these critical issues: they are all the same thing and none has proof.

Sorry but make no sense at all. You are grasping for straws hear. Just like a child he will not learn until taught by parents school teachers and etc. Spiritual things must be taught as well and if you are taught by people who do not know and present the truth then that leaves confusion and frustration and emptiness in a person's life. The only true source is the bible. It has the history and facts about where you came from, the world, life, afterlife, about God and his moral laws etc. Then you have the millions of testimonies of people who by faith gave proven that God is real and true. God doesn't change and does not fail and all of his words will come to pass and every person will know that truth when they are resurrected and stand before him in that day. This world is corrupt with sin that distorts and lead people astray and deceived. The many false religions are by design of Satan so that you will not believe and trust God. His goal to to see you live a misersable life and die and be sent to he'll like he knows that his time us short and he will be there too. He hates God and you and is tireless in his efforts to turn you to hate others and to turn from God so you can live your life by your own standards. Youe free will allows you to make the choices in life but a Devine principle us that in the end you will reap what you sew. You can know God but you have to come to him humble your self and in faith. You will find Him and truth if you seek him with all of your heart. Being bitter towards God will not turn out good for you, ignoring him will nit help you, and seeking him through religions that contradict his word will not lead you in the right direction. The Bible is the most sold book on the planet because God is reaching out to you and proving that His word is true and that he wants to have a relationship with you. His church us hear and his followers are doing what he has commanded them to preach the gospel (good news) so you can have peace and forgiveness and God's love. Your decision will determine your eternity.

As a kid I was told God wrote the Bible. Of course that isnt true. The book was put in current form just before 400AD to serve as a Scrpipture for the State church of Rome. Whats in it was written by men and of many religious texts chosen by Bishops under the directions of Constantine.
What is found in Genesis were the compiled stories learned by Jews while in Babylon and crafted later into a national/tribal narrative. The Noah story for instance is based on the Epic of Gilgamesh.
If one reads the Bible as literal history it is absurd. Rather it is a tool for religious teaching and thoughtful reflection.

One of the main reasons why people are having problems is because the Bible is not being explained in human form. Human form is when the Bible is explained in a form were a human being can do it and act it out. For example it would be like the scripture says thou shall not steal. You ask someone how to not steal?? The answer they give you is the Holy Spirit has to stop you from stealing or go pray and God will tell you. Its no clear answer on how not to steal. How can i be sure im not telling in my everyday life. If people can't explain the Bible in human form they don't know it.

Hi ReligiousBS, I stumbled upon this today. It breaks my heart no pastor could give you an answer. I am not a Pastor, but I resonate with you so much. I thought the exact way you did prior to escaping fundamentalist bondage and walking in true freedom of Christ, who is God.
I'd like to address some of your points in love and truth:
Christ is the light in Genesis 1. There will not be a sun in the New Heaven and the New Earth (Rev. 21:23), and there was no need for a sun prior to creation. Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world (John 8:12).
In Genesis 2:15-17, "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it:" does not pertain to Adam and Eve being unable to have dominion (definition: "Sovereignty", or "Control") over animals. Prior to the fall, keep in mind, all animals were uncorrupted and there would be no vicious tendencies... But still, a sheep brain is a sheep brain and requires some stewardship from man! Think about it.
In Genesis 6, God was displeased because man did only evil CONTINUALLY. This is not a contradiction to everything being good when God completed his creation earlier in the book of Genesis, because everything was good until man fell.
In Genesis 1:20-21, God is bringing forth life from WATER. In Genesis 2:7-19, God is bringing forth life from LAND. We have winged birds that are only found on land, and we have winged birds that are only found near water.
In Genesis 1:24-27, God proclaims "Let us make man in our image", which is triunity of body, soul, and spirit. God is also triune in Father, Son, and Spirit (hence the wording let "us" make man in our image). God then says He created Man in His own image.
Something can be designed, planned out, ideated, made, but not formed or realized in the fabric world. In Genesis 2:7, the body and soul come together and are realized: ("God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.")
If I missed anything, please let me know. Praying for you. You hurt so deeply because deep down, you know nothing makes sense without the Lord. Sin is real, we cannot escape its snare, guilt, and sting, and if we reject Christ's payment for our sin, we'll pay for them ourselves forever.
Please take heed to these words.

Many people become addicted to drugs through prescribed medication alone. Prescribed by doctors who are all too often paid to push highly addictive and unnecessary medications in excessive doses by pharmaceutical companies.
Of course, people are also more prone to forming addictions (and indulging in risky behaviour in the first place) when other needs are unmet. Some societies are just better at meeting people’s needs than others.
Please do write a book about that. People need to know.
As for bank robbing… I suspect that most bank robbers are leading pretty desperate and unhappy lives long before any kind of court hearing or prison sentence occurs…

People do what they think is best at the time, or out of ignorance sometimes, sometimes immaturity. Sometimes depression, even just not understanding the consequences of things, partly they are unknown, Many people can do drugs with no problem, many musicians did them for years. Most people who try cocaine don't become addicts. Most people who take certain meds don't get an allergic reaction. Some of these things are unknown, many of them.

The trees mentioned in genesis 2 are in the context of the garden of eden, which happen after all creation. In Genesis 2 when God decides to make help meet for him, unless we think that God would even consider us mating with an animal, is clear that God already knew that the best companion would be another human being, therefore what is mentioned in Gen 2:19-20 is in fact a recount of what happened in Gen 1, but with the addition that Adam names every creature, and with the added fact that no companion was found back then, therefore God had to create woman, as a reason of what had happened, therefore is not a sequence of events but a fact added between verse 18 and 21 which is the actual sequence of events. Besides, we are stewards, but we are not stewards without God, therefore God is even putting commandment in the garden, just as he commanded the creatures to multiply. And God does not change opinion, the world changed before him, and him being pleased with the evil will be a change in his escense, he was pleased with his creation, not pleased with what we made of it due to our free will. Agree religion sucks, but denying he existense of God in such arguments, when even the world around shows greatness of a God, probably no wise.

So you adopted some ideas, then changed your mind. How exactly was your life ruined?
You've basically read some Scriptures, failed to comprehend them, and now you're whining that your life is ruined. That's just sad.
Genesis 2:15-17 says "It's wrong to be able to tell good from evil"? It doesn't say that. It says not to eat the fruit of a certain tree. "The tree of the knowledge of good and evil" is just the name of the tree. They already had head-knowledge of good and evil. Obeying God was good. Disobeying God was evil. Eating of that tree would give them knowledge of another kind - an experiential knowledge - which means they would acquire the nature of evil and would now "know" evil by experiencing it.
On the issue of God being pleased and not being pleased with his creation (1:31 and chapter 6), he was pleased with His creation. What he was not pleased with was how mankind brought evil into it after Adam disobeyed the command not to eat of the tree of good and evil. Mankind had acquired an evil nature after eating of the tree that God said not to eat from. It's not that complicated. You have to connect the dots. You really need to try a little harder.

How can anyone say there is no free will? If you respond to this it is because you want to and that is free will. You didn't have a choice on being born it was a gift to your parents and a gift of life to you. You were not born because of evolution but Almighty God gave you life and as you begin to grow and hopefully learn about God and what are your boundaries and limitations you then make choices in life that will determine how you live and the responsibilities. God will hold you responsible and you will be judged because he is God and has the right to. If you rebel you just make things harder on yourself. If you do not want to humble yourself and believe than that will be your testimony before God and you will be without excuse. You cannot escape what awaits you when this life is over and all of your attitude and rebellion and mocking will be exposed and you will then bow before God and confess that He is LORD and then you will face an eternity without God,without hope, and without mercy. You have a choice but you don't have choice about your consequences. That will be left up to your creator.

There's 2 different accounts of creation in Genesis. And the way it's written doesn't always indicate chronological order. In Genesis 2: 18-19 it's says man should have a helper, and then it says God created livings and man named them, but notice it doesn't give the specific order. Like, someone might ask what did you do today? And you might say, "I went to mcdonalds, I was at home and had nothing to eat, I had gotten done work busy all day and was hungry so thought about where I could go for a burger and fries. So I decided to try mcdonalds." We all know that you didn't go to mcdonalds twice you just recounted the story in away where we have to figure what happened first.

All contradictions can be explained. Genesis 6 was much later than Genesis 1. God was pleased with His creation in Genesis 1, but when it became corrupted it was displeased.
As for the animals. They were first created: the correct translation is _"had_ formed" .
    Genesis 2:19 NIV
Now the Lord God _had formed_ out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them.
In this rare instance the NIV is correct on this verse because the verb in the sentence can be translated as pluperfect rather than perfect. The pluperfect tense can be considered as the past of the past-that is to say, in a narration set in the past, the event to which the narration refers is already further in the past. Once the pluperfect is taken into account, the perceived contradiction completely disappears.
I'm glad you turned away from false religion, but I hope you return to Christ and the only true Gospel of Grace.
I struggled a lot too with finding the truth and solving contradictions. If you want to address certain points I will try my best to give my view. I'd hate to see someone lost because organized religion turned them away.
