Player pianos from what I've heard on other videos were quite popular in the 1910's and 1920's, and outsold regular pianos. Also, during that time period Nickelodeons and orchestrions were common as dust.
For my answer I'd like to add to Wisher that more than one song could fit on a scroll. Also the faster you pedal, the faster it goes. You can pedal with one foot, two at a time, etc, even if the easiest is two alternating. And think of exchanging scrolls like a roll of paper towels. I'd say they were very common. It would be awesome to see them make a come back.

Actually that’s not entirely true. My mother knows a piano tuner who is actually skilled with tuning old pianos like that. She calls him every time I accidentally broke one of the ivory hammers. The piano in question was never restored. I did not find it very cost effective given my financial situation. So there. Some people still know how to tune them this way. I think it’s because my piano is tuned that way that I am a bit out of touch with modern pianos
Well then there IS something wrong with my piano. Maybe I didn't realize it... Although from the looks of it, appears to be fine, so I'd better not mess with it =D
They come around every once in a while on eBay, especially the QRS ones. Dick Watson’s arrangement of the piece is probably the most frequent one I’ve seen.

They need to continue production of these magical Player Piano's of the 1900's, extinction is not wanted!!

This is an amazing piano but you have to set the playback speed to 1.25 for the actual speed.

I have one of those pianos use it allot but the question is where are you playing the pedals beneath the key bored at the bottom of the piano?

Envy the owner of this piano. Prefer Frederick Hodges playing it though, but then this could be bought for a price and he'll never be for sale!
