In this excerpt from Swami Vivekananda's Bhakti Yoga lecture, Swamiji explains the psychology behind religious hatred and the remedy.

The one great advantage of Bhakti is that it is the easiest and most natural way to reach the great divine end in view; its great disadvantage is that in its lower forms it oftentimes degenerates into hideous fanaticism.
The fanatical crew in Hinduism, or Mohammedanism, or Christianity, have always been almost exclusively recruited from these worshippers on the lower planes of Bhakti.
All the weak and undeveloped minds in every religion or country have only one way of loving their own ideal, i.e. by hating every other ideal.
Everybody should understand this two type of vakti.
But what to do when someone is attacking you coz of your faith that happens when muslims are in majority and Hindus become minority and muslims start persecuting hindus 😢
Very much true. 👌👌🙏🙏🌹🌹

Very, very pertinent excerpt in today's perspective. Those on the path of Social Hindutva must be mindful of this, and must know it well that Social Hindutva is only a counter response to the fanaticism thrown at the Hindus by the Islamists at large. A counter is not required if the environment is not threatening. Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa gave the best example in his story of the deadly cobra who after coming in contact with a holy man became apologetic of his actions and withdrew himself to the point that he bore the brunt of children throwing stones at him, being caught by the tail and whirled around and dashed again and again on the ground, and became terribly weak, till the holy man returned to find the cobra in a crushed state and reminded him that he needed to at least hiss at others to protect himself. This story was said in context to a question by a devotee who asked Sri Ramakrishna 'Sir, if a wicked man is about to do harm, or actually does so, should we keep quiet then ?' to which the Master says 'A man living in society should make a show of tamas to protect himself from evil-minded people. But he should not harm anybody in anticipation of harm likely to be done him' after which he narrates the story. It is very important to keep this example of the Master to ensure that those countering must not become the aggressors under any circumstances. In being counter fundamentalists one must remember that one is only having to be this way under the given circumstances, to avoid slipping into the shoes of the real fundamentalist.
BUT HISSING AGAINST THOSE FANATICS IS MUST , OTHERWISE, THEY WILL EAT YOU UP.
UNFORTUNATELY MOST OF US ARE SO CALLED SECULAR ( MEANS INVERTEBRATES).
Yes..i have read this story.
Well put. Elucidating.
Powerful statements that everyone should understand. True and deep Bhakti is mutually exclusive with hatred towards others. In other words one who hates other religions is not a true Hindu.
When the other religion teaches to kill all those who are " kafirs" (for simply not having faith in there religion) in a brutal way, one is forced to hate it. It's but obvious na?
Bhakti means tolerance and namaz isn't bhakti
One faith in another's view is faulty, and the doctrine
Cardinal as taught in one, in another's measure, lacks;
Know, confusion in the world shall prevail so long
As the unitive secret herein remains unknown.
To vanquish by fighting is not possible; no religion
Can be abolished by attack; the opponent of another faith
Not remembering this and persisting in his fight,
His doom shall he in vain work out, beware!
I would like to read more about this.
