Perhaps I'm not the only one in the world that at least once a year watch ALL the championships from 2013 to present and occasionally various Olympics clips
19:44 Al points out the selection committee wasn't even watching Maggie's floor routine. "Athlete A" gives that comment a whole new meaning. She was off the team before the trials even started in an effort to silence her voice and protect the image of USA Gymnastics. Such a shame.
That is true. The gymnastics Olympic trials is not the event that serves as the test of who makes it to the Olympics. They count other events and camps. The only person who is guaranteed a spot is the 1st place qualifier. They could literally take someone who didn't even compete at the trials. She wasn't going bc she was recovering from injury. She hadn't been completing a ton. When she did compete she wasn't better than Gabby.
I disagree. They’d seen her in training, and had seen where she’d been in the standings. Her knee really is what knocked her off of the team. She would’ve had to beat Laurie in the AA, or Skinner on floor or vault (probably both) to get on the team.
@@maia9056 Pretty sure that's due to her surgery. If you watch all her landings, she lands telegraphed with her right leg first taking more weight then her left which is the one she had surgery on. 1st pass, right leg first and quick step back to lunge. 2nd, 3rd and 4th passes, right leg lands first. Thinks it is just so she doesn't blow her knee cap off again.
What an extremely toxic environment that all these girls had to go through. The Larry Nassar situation, seeing Maggie Haney with Laurie Hernandez, and after watching Athlete A and watching this again, my heart breaks for Maggie Nichols.
Psychological abuse my love. She was probably brainwashing Laurie and Riley, these two were always trained by her so they didn't know how to differentiate between mistreatment and teaching. Maybe that's why they don't need another coach.
@Braidwood Inn You'd think it would be that easy, but these girls had a rare chance to compete at the highest level and were willing to put up with it to do so. It's sad because they didn't feel comfortable standing up for themselves for that reason.
lmao everyone who's saying maggie or mykayla should've been on the team are clearly not building a well rounded team. The team gold is *absolutely* a higher priority than event medals. USA usually takes top 3 AA girls from trials (so simone, laurie, and aly are in). But literally all 3 of those girls' weakest event is bars and you have to send 4 people to bars in the qualification round (and 3 for team final), so you bet ur ass the last 2 people on the team needed bars to be their best event (especially because aly is *really* bad at bars so she's not even really an option). That immediately eliminates mykayla, ragan AND maggie because it's their *worst* event too. They were 12th, 10th, and 9th on bars. They chose a bars specialist: Maddie. She won bars at trials *and* was the current world champion. AND was top 10 in 2 other events. That means ashton is out because they'd never take 2 specialists for the same thing (and she can physically only do 2/4 events). The last girl chosen has no chance of actually competing for AA (there's a 2 per country rule for finals, and it's logistically impossible to have 4 girls do AA in the qualifying round), so they don't need another AA girl who has the same strengths as their top 3 AA girls. That means they're taking gabby because she's the next best AA who's consistently great at bars and is also only .150 behind maggie in AA (they end up only needing her for bars but she's *not* going as a bars *specialist* , she was top 6 in 3/4 events at trials, and she could have stepped in for someone else if they needed her). The alternates they chose were the rest of the girls who were top 3 in an event. Mykayla was #2 on vault, ragan was #2 on beam (and both scored high in AA so they're useful in multiple ways). Ashton was very clearly maddie's alternate, so she's only useful for 1 event, but she's SUPER useful for that one event (because if maddie got hurt, the team would be *screwed* on bars). Maggie is good at everything, but not excellent at any one thing. Adding her as a 6th AA option is basically pointless and she's not great enough at any event to be a specialist
@@jessicamac-zv6tb Thank you! I just feel like people complain about the team selection as if they don't understand how team sports work lol. And if you actually know the format/how they count scores at the olympics, the team selection is hardly controversial because it just makes sense. (Which is why the commentators can pretty easily correctly guess the team before trials are even over. They actually guessed the right team 2 weeks earlier during nationals)
@Davy Lau Oh I agree that they didn’t *need* gabby to win. They could’ve put almost anyone from trials in that 5th spot and still won, but they're still going to bring the strongest overall team. That’s how team sports work. If this were soccer, you wouldn’t say “why bother having a defense (gabby) when you have an amazing goalie (Maddie) and the best offense (simone, aly, laurie)” You can still win by adding more offense (mykayla) and just outscoring everyone, but it makes more sense to add defense. The USA is #1 on vault with or without skinner. Tbh probably even without simone. We’re way better than everyone else. But they’re not #1 on bars, so why would they add another vaulter? And the nationals comparison doesn’t really make sense because that was gabby’s worst UB score at a meet in like 2 years, which means on her worst day, she’s comparable to simone/laurie. She literally got a 15.65 on bars right before nationals (and in rio quals & team finals she got 15.7+). By that same logic, are Gabby & laurie are equal to mykayla on vault because they had comparable vault scores at the jesolo cup? (gabby’s was actually higher than mykayla’s but she didn’t do event finals). For team scores, you only do 1 vault anyway, and for single vault scores, aly’s amanar is so good that she’s technically better anyway (Aly was ranked #2 in the world and mykayla was #6). And if the US just wanted more medals, it makes wayy more sense to take ashton locklear, not mykayla. They're not going to prioritize event medals that aren't even gold. Ashton was the national champion and won every single meet she was in (until trials). She was #2 in the world but less than a tenth behind #1 Maddie. She *literally* could have won a gold medal. Mykayla was def not going for gold, she wasn’t the mckayla Maroney of 2016. Simone was #1 and it wasn’t even close. Mykayla was #2 but it was a tight race, her best 2-vault score *ever* wouldn’t even have medaled in 2015 worlds, and all of those girls were in rio so..yeah she could have medaled but she’s not even their best option if they want another medal. Did you see the rio vault qualification scores?? Even if she was 0.2 better than she’d ever been, she would’ve qualified to vault finals in 3rd. And Gabby (who did .1 better than ever) qualified to bars finals in 3rd. Mykayla is a *great* gymnast, but it just didn’t make as much sense to add her to *this particular* team. Once you have simone, aly and laurie, if you want the strongest team, add gabby and either maddie or ashton. If you want medals, take maddie and ashton because either could win gold. The new format means they can finally bring people just for individual medals, regardless of whether or not the team needs them. I’m interested to see how that pans out.
19:49 They start talking about how the selection team wasn’t even paying attention to Maggie’s floor routine. It’s 2023 and this still breaks my heart and made me cry. They had already made up their minds and thought they were untouchable. It’s blatant they didn’t care either. Looking back I am even more proud of Maggie and all of the women who reported Larry Nassar and the Koroli’s.
After watching Athlete A, that hits different too. Because they'd (and I mean Penny and if Marta made the choice herself or because he forced her, we'll never know and can only speculate) already decided not to include her due to her complaint against Nassar the previous year. And while we don't know that - it's pretty clear that Maggie should have at the very least been an alternate.
@@xxuy393she had historically proven that when it mattered she HIT- that’s why she was chosen. She also had a very strong bars set, something we needed. Maggie wouldn’t have made it even without the blacklisting as she just didn’t perform to Olympic quality standards here.
@@saragrant9749 okay no cause the selection committee said "i dont care about your achievements its how good you are currently" and gabby was not the olympic champ we are use to seeing she was horrible in 2016
Why was there so much unnecessary criticism of Gabby and dramatizing her story? She was second in the world in 2015, qualified THIRD at the Olympics, and her bars improved so much! Whether you thought you she should’ve been on the team or not, she had a great comeback and proved her 2012 win wasn’t a fluke! She grew up 4 years since London and came back to people being super critical! Don’t blame her for losing a bit of “luster”
@AshTheOne yup I agree the whole of America believed and practically gave it to Jordyn Weiber who unfortunately had a very disappointing Olympic games. She needed Gabys and Alys help to get that team gold. Gaby shone.
There is no olympic commitee who would deny a reigning gold medalist a spot on the team. She earned her spot. I think she never got love snd respect after winning the AA title and it eats at her
Gabby came back and won a silver medal at the world championships. She won the jesolo cup. She won the American Cup and beat Maggie Nichols Head to Head. She was going. Add that to the fact that she helps the US team on the event that they are weakest on, and it was a shoe-in.
Eh not impressed by Aly. My co-worker’s daughter did gymnastics and went to a camp where she was there as a mentor and she said Aly was snobby and rude to the other gymnasts the whole time 😳
So sad watching this after Athlete A, knowing what they have been going through. Especially Maggie. The dude even said it "they arent even watching Maggie" and the unfairly low scores. So proud she spoke out even if it gave her so much grief. She shouldve been at Rio.
I didn't think her scores were low - she wasn't doing her usual difficulty level because of her injury, but she said she'd be good by Rio. That being said, they had already decided not to take her, hence why her parents didnt appear on camera. I always wonder if she hadn't injured herself right before the Olympics and barely have enough time to get back out there - what was going to be the justification for not taking her.
Just because Maggie spoke up about her abuse and was almost certainly blacklisted, doesn't also mean that she deserved to be on the team. Its pretty obvious that she really didn't fit in on the best 5 person team, though she has a more solid case to have at least been selected as an alternate
She would not have made the team regardless. It didnt make sense for her to be on it unfortunately. That is something netflix added that was not well researched.
It’s not just about rank. Maggie performed well here but she was inconsistent in every comp leading up to this. She was coming back from injury. It makes perfect sense why she wasn’t on this team. I’m not saying the way usag treated her was not disgusting, but I think Marta would choose the best team regardless of the circumstances, it was all she seemed to care about. Whatever it takes to win.
And they kept degrading about her scores but on the floor she had higher than Laurie Hernandez and they said for Laurie that won’t be a problem at all. So unfair
She actually DID NOT smash those routines. Her bars were messy, floor, beam and vault were all far outmatched by others. Even without the scandals going on she did not serve a need on that team unfortunately.
Watching this after Athlete A and.... I’m just devastated. To know what was really going on behind the scenes is horrifying. USA gymnastics failed these young women.
Jackson Catlett she is always phenomenal! You can always count on her to give a good performance even if it’s not perfect so she is a solid performer and usually A+ with an occasional 10th of a deduction with a hop or something but nothing serious like falling.
Makayla came in 4th and missed out on the olympics. I hadn’t remembered just how close she was to being on this team. I’m so glad she’s trying for Tokyo; I think she can make it this time.
Melanie Melendez oh absolutely. Since Jade Carey is going to Tokyo via World Cups as an individual for vault and/or floor and won’t be on the team, MyKayla has a fantastic shot at making the team since those are her best events. I think it’ll be Simone, Morgan Hurd, Suni Lee and MyKayla.
Sarah-V Harnden id love that but sadly that leaves out my other favorites. Grace McCallum and Riley McCusker. And now, Chellsie Memmel is trying to make T2020 too for beam. All I know is that the 2021 US championship is gonna be crazy!
I think it’ll be between Grace McCallum and MyKayla for that 4th spot. Simone and Suni are locks and Morgan proved how dependable she is after winning the American Cup. Unfortunately, I don’t think Riley will make the team and will probably be an alternate. If the USA sends an individual for EF, I would imagine they’d send Kara Eaker for beam, but if Chellsie can outscore her, she might get it. It’ll definitely be a fantastic Olympic trials!!
Demi-Lee Muir that’s a great team except I think Chellsie making the specialist spot is impossible since you have to win a number of world cups and most of them are already over. But, with an extra year if she wins every single world cup she attends she just might make it.
I think Marta knew before trials who she was choosing. In Alys book she said Marta told her she was taking her before either Nats or Trials. I think we had the best possible team. It was smart to pick Maddie Kocian because she could fill in if there was an injury. Thank God there wasn’t. Great team we had.
Oh she definitely knew. Coming out of the P&G Championships, she already had her team in place and the only thing the Trials did was show her whether that team could perform under pressure and if they couldn't who could. And she already knew Simone, Gabby and Aly all performed well under pressure - it was about Laurie and Maddie here to see how they did.

Ikr she was so underrated on floor as an elite. This routine had great choreography, great tumbling, and engaging music. 14.7 she got, didn’t she on night 2? Very respectable FX score!
Watching this now, seeing the clear heartbreak on Makayla Skinner’s face at the end I’m so glad she finally got her Olympic shot. Even better is that it ended (unexpectedly but who cares) with a silver medal.
I agree about Maggie. I felt so bad for her. Then when it came out that she was the first one to report the doctor for sexual abuse, I wondered if that had anything to do with it. The other girls waited until after Rio to come forward, but she and her coach did it when it first happened.
Maggie was injured at the time. No one knew if she would recover in the time left. Don't worry about Maggie. She's tearing it up in NCAA gymnastics and has now won 2 NCAA championships. Mykayla Skinner's Utah Red Rocks didn't even get out of the first round this year. World team member Sarah Finnegan's LSU Tigers placed 2nd to Nichol's Oklahoma Sooner squad, and World and Olympic team members Kyla Ross and Madison Kocian's UCLA Bruins placed 3rd in the 2019 Women's NCAA Gymnastic's Championship this month.
dbeezy That’s not exactly true. While Maggie is credited with being the first to report the abuse to USA Gymnastics, it was about 3 years after it started, in 2015.
Seriously, I cannot WAIT for the next couple of months here as we lead up to Tokyo...I think I’ve rewatched basically every gymnastics meet all the way back to the 2000 Olympics-some more than once! 🤣🤣 lol #quarantineproblems

Yet not that high in difficulty to compete with any of the big names, overscored in American judges and then international not high. It's easier to try to be perfect with less difficulty
Having watched Skinner these last three years at Utah... I look at her here and think; you take that difficulty from 2016 and mix it with the improvement on the form, don't sleep on her for 2020.

@@mindykoch3340 exactly. It was such a poor decision, they already had Jade who does anything Skinner can but better. They should’ve taken Leanne or Riley
It was, but lacked start value that others had. There were just too many athletes performing harder, more consistent routines in every event unfortunately.
@@JustKeepSinging24 she literally qualified third all around.. the only reason why she doesn't have a bronze medal is because of the two per country rule
This makes me so sad. Maggie should have been on the team. But i think it´s amazing that she is now one of the best NCAA gymnasts of all time! She is so strong. I have so much respect for her. She is an example for so many! I love you Maggie! You are awesome and i wish you all the happiness in the world! :)
Maggie had been batting injuries and just didn’t perform to Olympic standards- simple as that. In every event she was bested by at least three others, both in start value and in execution.
I find it so toxic that they put a sad sound effect at 13:48 when laurie got a 14... like what?! edit: Oops it was for an audience game heheh, well at least they didn’t disrespect Laurie :)
I miss Ragan's good beam, the small girl with the Patterson dismount.... I don't think she is going to Tokyo if she doesn't get the Kara's or Leanne's level and doesn't focuses on bars and beam She deserved to be in the team over Douglas in my opinion
Misógina internalizada Opresora héteropatriarcal i respectfully disagree. If she went instead of gabby USA wouldve suffered on bars. They already had simone, laurie, ally who did beam.(and gabby and madison also have solid beam). Bars they really only had two solid routines which were gabby and maddie so really gabby needed to go. If ragan fit anywhere it would be lauries spot since they’re basically the same
@@pablovivas6829 Well, it's a matter of opinion To me USA's team was OK with Kocian bars, Ragan was OK on bars too, she would have won the team gold and probably qualified to beam (she could have beaten Simone) and bars Gabby qualified the UB finals, but didn't do well at finals Sorry for my bad grammar
Misógina internalizada Opresora héteropatriarcal honestly i cant spell any better. I agree ragan bars are passable but they made the decision not knowing that gabby was going to mess up on bars. Also hypothetically they already had beam gold(simone) and sliver(laurie) so it didnt make sense to bring ragan. Bars final was kocian and gabby. IMO the spot that was in the air was laurie bc maggie, myakala and ragan couldve replaced them. Also team usa can bring whoever they wanted and still won by like 10 pts so whatever tbh
@@pablovivas6829 I agree with that, they can fall asleep on the beam and win by 2 points Simone had mistakes on beam so she got the bronze and laurie the silver (that's why I said Ragan could have taken the bronze, but what if she nails it and get the silver?) Maybe you are right and Ragan wasn't capable of deal with the pressure (she was one of the worlds beam favourite around 2017, didn't handle it, fell and didn't qualified!) Gabby was a little bit off, but I guess her experience was enought to make the team I'm still sad for Ragan, did her best and ended as an alternate, she is probably going to be one again in tokyo if she doesn't fully recovers and gets better.... I really like her gymnastics and i don't want her out of the team :( !
3:33 I was behind Gabby's sister filming. I was the one who whistled and did an exaggerated salute to get the girls to do it for the picture. I dropped the 3rd place podium on my toe that day while trying to move it. I loved working at Excalibur.
2019 but I still think that Ragan would have much better succeeded in college gymnastics. She’s cute and bubbly and she loves to have fun and I think UCLA or any other college would have been so lucky to have her on their team
Tumble4Life she is signed with OU for the 2021 season but will start in 2020 so she has college to do if the Olympics don’t work out for her which I really hope that it does
I think that people really don't understand all of the factors that go into team selection. They don't just look at the scores from trials, they also consider health and recent meets. I liked Gabby as a choice because she's consistent. Even if she doesn't pull the highest scores she can be counted on for a solid performance. It was also a benefit to have both Aly and Gabby because they were team USA veterans. Everyone's going to be nervous no matter how many times they have gone but I think that it must be calming for the other girls when those two can tell them what to expect. I think that they chose a good team. Simone was a shoe in even if she hadn't placed first. I think Laurie was too. I think that they chose the healthiest most consistent girls. Ones who perform well under pressure. Simone is a beast so she doesn't count, but for the others I think Gabby had the lead on that. I think she's at her best under pressure. All I know is that I can't wait for 2020. I see Simone going again for sure as long as she remains healthy. The other four could be anyone at this point. Alot can happen in the next 10 to 11 months.
team was supposed to be chosen by way of 3 up/3 count..... myk was top 3 on 2 events all season, and gabby was only barely 3rd on bars at trials. this same result wouldn't happen today, what does that tell you..
Why? She finished 6th All Around and didn't finish top three on any of the four individual events. Every member of the Olympic team (including the alternates) finished top three in at least one event. Maggie is a brave young woman and I don't think it would have mattered if she'd been perfect here. As the commentator said, the selection committee wasn't watching her. However, I don't see where she fits into this team. Who should Maggie have replaced and why?
@@Padmepotter4986 gabby. maggie was more constant than gabby. gabby fell on a simple full turn night 1 and her standing full night 2 her bars night 2 she barely caught her releases. gabby was excellent in 2012 but unfortunately that was her peak. you’re entitled to your opinion just like kimi and i are entitled to ours. 👍
@@foff1260 Lol! Yes, sweetie pie, you're entitled to your opinion. What you aren't entitled to are your own facts. The committee selected Gabby for bars. If she hadn't gone, they would have replaced her with Ashton, not Maggie. Simone, Ally and Laurie were all arounders consistently scoring well on vault, beam and floor. All three of them usually scored below 15 on bars so that's where the committee turned to specialists. Madison and Ashton both scored in the mid to high 15s and were co-champions. Gabby could score 15+ and also provided experience. The only member of Team USA Maggie outscored on bars was Ally. And Gabby peaked in 2012? Maybe. However, she finished third in qualifying in Rio (behind Simone and Ally). If it weren't for the two per country rule, she would have been in the All Around.
Looking back with hindsight, the only way Ashton would've had a chance is if she somehow made her bars routine harder between 2015-the trials because Madison always had the edge over her with going to worlds and getting that extra experience + being a co-bars champion. I always feel so bad for Ashton because she was just as capable of being on the team as Madison. But Team USA had already orchestrated the situation back in 2015 worlds.
Everyone who's mentioning how MyKayla was robbed, I'd like to put forth the fact that in comparison to Gabby, she would've been hammered on execution at Rio. Also, Gabby had way more experience competing on a world stage where pressure is high, and in most situations, (minus 2012 Bars and Beam EF) she was able to deliver. I also think her bars routine was exactly what team USA needed at the time. Yes, team USA could've sent whoever the hell they wanted on bars and still won by 7-10 points, but they were going for the optimal team to bring in the best performance possible. If you want to fight this comment, it's alright since everybody is entitled to their opinions here. Just stating how I feel on the situation. :) happy gymnastics watching y'all
hammered in the way Paseka won two silver medals in Rio? stop with this bs argument, Skinner did just fine in 2014 and thus was considered for 2015 and 2016.
We're not arguing that. It just didn't make sense for the sake of individual medals. For the team, Gabby gave them a few tenths on bars while Mckayla would've gave them a few tenths on vault. That doesn't really matter at the end of the day because they were light years ahead of Russia and China at this Olympics. Gabby at almost no shot at a bars medal while Mckayla was almost guaranteed a vault medal. Simone, Laurie, and Aly should've been used for the all-around so Gabby wasn't really needed there either.
If they were really trying for the optimal team they would have sent Locklear who is better than Douglas on bars which is all Douglas ended up contributing anyway.
@@Andrew-pf5fj McKayla was not almost a lock for a vault medal I dont think. At her one worlds she won bronze on vault when Hong nearly fell on one of her vaults and won gold. I think Paseka beats her, and the Swiss girl has a good shot to beat her too.
I like listening to Shannon Miller and the Brit guy for the Olympics because they are so nice but still informative. The guy on here just makes me mute it!
They already had Simone And Aly for beam floor and vault, and Laurie for beam and floor. They didn’t need another power gymnast. They needed someone like gabby who could do floor and vault, but also be great on bars. She also has terrible execution and is super inconsistent. Gabby was a better option.

The rest, including Nadia, Mary Lou & Kim, vehemently DENIED any type of abuse and came out in defense of them over and over. They did not know Larry was a monster & spitting on all they've done for women's gymnastics is disgusting. Blaming them for Larry would be like blaming an entire teaching staff for 1 predatory teacher. It's ridiculous & the way so many people have jumped on the bandwagon to shame them and their legacy is absolutely horrific. They've lost enough. Leave them alone until you show some legitimate proof that they aided Larry & were physically abusive
Bravo, Heather! There's absolutely no proof tying the Karoli's to a serial predator. He also molested women at Michigan State University. Were the Karoli's tough? If they were, it got results. People that condemn them for being tough never served a day in a military boot camp.
Regardless of belief on who should have made the team or not - They went 1-3 in qualifications and that was prob the best AA performance I've seen Douglas do.

I couldn’t imagine the parents seeing there kid fly through the air
Maybe that's why her parents kiss at the end of her routines...?? Out of relief that Simone didn't leave Earth's atmosphere.

Sorry but have you seen her leg form 🤮
@@maia9056 Pretty sure that's due to her surgery. If you watch all her landings, she lands telegraphed with her right leg first taking more weight then her left which is the one she had surgery on.
1st pass, right leg first and quick step back to lunge. 2nd, 3rd and 4th passes, right leg lands first. Thinks it is just so she doesn't blow her knee cap off again.
Aaron Sandman She did that in 2015 as well.
What an extremely toxic environment that all these girls had to go through. The Larry Nassar situation, seeing Maggie Haney with Laurie Hernandez, and after watching Athlete A and watching this again, my heart breaks for Maggie Nichols.
😢
What happened with Maggie Haney and Laurie Hernandez.
@@laurensanchez6721 Maggie Haney was Laurie Hernandez’s abusive coach

Adding her as a 6th AA option is basically pointless and she's not great enough at any event to be a specialist
aries4alexs this comment is explained perfectly! & I agree 100%
Smartest person in this comment section
@Davy Lau exactly... the original poster is wrong... it was down to Gabby and Ashton, so Marta was considering taking both Ashton and Maddie.
And while we don't know that - it's pretty clear that Maggie should have at the very least been an alternate.
yea and i dont think gabby deserved to be on the team at all every meet in 2016 she had falls or form breaks or misses a connection definitely biased
Don’t blame her for losing a bit of “luster”
so so true. she earned her spot
Just a bunch of drama. They’ve done that to every athlete and gymnast that has potential or success and they end up getting psyched out from it
@AshTheOne yup I agree the whole of America believed and practically gave it to Jordyn Weiber who unfortunately had a very disappointing Olympic games.
Maddie Kocian’s bars is absolutely beautiful!
it's very simple. when aly cries, i cry.
Agreed. USA gymnastics should have faced even harsher penalties for what it did to these girls. Not just removal but major criminal charges.
Yeah it’s suck what these adults did knowing these poor girls were being harmed and Maggie spoke out and they just retaliated against her
Just because Maggie spoke up about her abuse and was almost certainly blacklisted, doesn't also mean that she deserved to be on the team. Its pretty obvious that she really didn't fit in on the best 5 person team, though she has a more solid case to have at least been selected as an alternate
So sad now knowing Maggie smashed those performances and they weren’t even watching because they had already decided she was off the team 🥺🥺
She would not have made the team regardless. It didnt make sense for her to be on it unfortunately. That is something netflix added that was not well researched.
@@jacobbaker4545 no, she was definitely an alternate. Netflix pointed out how she was placed 6th and didn’t even got to the alternate spot.

My dream team for 2021 is Biles, Hurd, Lee, Skinner. Then Carey + Memmel for the individual spots
She made sure the execution is at best and that’s missing nowadays
Oh she definitely knew. Coming out of the P&G Championships, she already had her team in place and the only thing the Trials did was show her whether that team could perform under pressure and if they couldn't who could. And she already knew Simone, Gabby and Aly all performed well under pressure - it was about Laurie and Maddie here to see how they did.

I agree about Maggie. I felt so bad for her. Then when it came out that she was the first one to report the doctor for sexual abuse, I wondered if that had anything to do with it. The other girls waited until after Rio to come forward, but she and her coach did it when it first happened.

Misógina internalizada Opresora héteropatriarcal honestly i cant spell any better. I agree ragan bars are passable but they made the decision not knowing that gabby was going to mess up on bars.

@@Padmepotter4986 it’s bc judges scored her lower knowing she wouldn’t go
@@foff1260 Lol!
:) happy gymnastics watching y'all
FUCK CRABBY GABBY!
hammered in the way Paseka won two silver medals in Rio? stop with this bs argument, Skinner did just fine in 2014 and thus was considered for 2015 and 2016.
Shannon Miller is my favorite of all time 🤩🤩🤩
OMAGOSH!! 2 wolf turns on beam?! And both totally smooth?! 👏🏻BRAVO Miss Maggie! I salute you!!👏🏻
They already had Simone And Aly for beam floor and vault, and Laurie for beam and floor. They didn’t need another power gymnast. They needed someone like gabby who could do floor and vault, but also be great on bars. She also has terrible execution and is super inconsistent. Gabby was a better option.
19:45 Olympic Committee not even watching Maggie
So sad 😭
The way Madison’s beam routine matches Ariana’s greedy in the background is just amazing
Rewatching this now, makes me sick knowing the entire group that went into that “selection committee” room knew about the abuse to all these young women😢
I could watch Gabby's leaps all day, they were absolutely amazing!
It's crazy knowing now that Madison tore her labrum during this bar routine.
so weird watching this 4 years later, back then i remember thinking we will never see this level of gymnastics ever again! (simone, i mean--obviously) then simone comes back and grts even better!!!!! i still cant believe she is competing a triple double now. i never thought we would ever see that skill. ever!
god skinner and whittenburg were so robbed in 2016
LOVE Nastia Luikin!!🔥🌹🌹
Rewatching these Trials I remember how gorgeous Lorie was in her routines. I really enjoyed her commentary and inside look about Tokyo this year.
There is something so beautiful and classic about Gabby Douglas's form.
I've always been a fan.
19:47 just sad. Maggie deserved so much more in the sport and not to be shunned when she spoke about her abuse to not harm of the reputation of USAG.
Gabriel's coach seems so nice and supportive!!
Yes, I agree. And handome too hahah
I can’t wait to see Simone biles and other USA 🇺🇸 women’s and USA 🇺🇸 men's teams in gymnastics 🤸♀️ competition in 2024 summer Olympic Games in Paris France 🇫🇷
I get a little bit angry inside every time I see one of the Karolyis now :/
Agnes A May I ask why?
@@kittybrunner7506 because they were extremely abusive to their gymnasts.
valueofapotato are you sure?
Less than 1\4 of those they consistently trained said something about them being abusive.....
She shouldn't have even been given that spot. They gave her that spot for PR reasons. That was Laurie's spot and her injury wasn't even serious. They just wanted Gabby there because she was the most profitable person to bring for USAG. Greed > everything.
Andrew I agree about the all around spot. I think it was the best choice to have gabby on the team, by Laurie deserved that spot in the all around.
Andrew I agree about the all around spot. I think it was the best choice to have gabby on the team, by Laurie deserved that spot in the all around.
@@Andrew-pf5fj Laurie's injury was serious, her fucked up coach tried to downplay it. Now that everything is out there was a good reason she didnt do bars and she was upset that her coach tried to make it look like she wasn't hurt and of course USA gymnastics wouldn't admit to it. Gabby had to do bars and the AA qualification, there was no option
@@Andrew-pf5fj Actually it was Aly the one who was given Laurie's AA spot, Gabby was there to do bars no matter what, so you already had her, Maddie and Simone.
I get chills hearing theirs moms talking about them. Especially Nellie! She is America's mom!
i've watched this many times but still when simone falls off the beam i'm like :O
I can’t wait to see Simone biles and other USA 🇺🇸 team and men team USA 🇺🇸 competition at the gymnastics team final events and individual gymnastics events
Totally crying with them!! I knew of course but the moment is so great for all of them!! :)
Disappointed that they moved the games to 2021. So I’m watching all the old stuff
13:52 wow the stadium really put the saf trombone sound effect over loris score
Anybody come back here after the 2021 trails to compare coz I think I actually prefer the 2016 ones better idk why
Not to brag but...
I can stand on one leg!
Charlotte Rygaard Bugge 😹😹😹 I think everyone can bahah
LEGEND
Ha ha. Brilliant. Try it with your eyes closed.
My Room just tried it. Just need to learn that now.
Omggg life changing!!!
Marta was so unfair to Maggie. They underscored her so much. My heart breaks for her. She should’ve at least been an alternate. I think we had a great team, I think I would’ve put Mykayla on the team and Madison as an alternate. I would’ve put Maggie as first alternate. Marta wasn’t even watching Maggie’s routines! I think that it is such an accomplishment to just make the Olympic trials, and I think we had a good team overall.
Why would you put mckayla on the team instead of Madison who was almost guaranteed for an uneven bars medal, which she won
I would have swapped Gabby for Mykayla she was a lot more consistent than Gabby however I imagine the mindset was they had three powerhouse gymnasts and so they needed someone who could specialise in Bars as that was the weakest event
@@surgeon1016 and also, gabby was 3rd AA. If Simone or aly had to drop out, gabby would’ve most likely won another aa medal and could’ve done any event if needed in team finals
And we now know what that low scoring was really about
Oh...watching this 3 days after Kobe died, totally forgot he was in the stands watching this with Nadia😢😭
The Olympics would be starting around now 😢
never too late for watching olympic trials 😅
Everyone is hating on MyKayla Skinner but she's grown so much in the last four years. I really really want to see her in 2021
Wish granted
@@You.Tube.Sucks. yep she took the spot of another gymnast who would actually make sense in the individual spot for this years Olympics
@@Bxyxox girl you can calm down because she just copped a silver Olympic medal

Take a shot every time Al calls Simone "Gabby" lol
Everyone is mad saying that Skinner and Maggie were robbed
But what about Ragan? Muh little girl deserved a spot
On what basis? Lol
@@Andrew-pf5fj She did her best and scored well in the all around, more than Gabby and Maggie
She just proved herself
@@misoginainternalizadaopres7131 Skinner was literally 4th in the AA ranked AHEAD of Ragan and Maggie. I wish they did top 3 + 2 picked alternates

Ragan was a young gymnast with a future ahead, Maggie Laurie and Gabby were not (no offense intented)
Yeah, they were probably thinking that Ragan would be a lock for 2020, which now is seeming a little less like a sure thing.
these young women are freaking AWESOME!!!!!!! all of them! i love seeing them during and after Laurie's PHENOMENAL beam set to closw out the trials. so cool
I just saw Athlete A. So upset about what happened to Maggie, so unfair
Watching in 2020. Ready to see Simone in Tokyo!
Even though they are the alternates but to hear there names called and to be apart of the team is so emotional and wonderful only if it was 8 to a team
