RIDGID 4241 (10") Miter Saw ON SALE [30% OFF] - homedepot.sjv.io/b3oXmB
The RIDGID 4251 & 4241 as well as the Delta Cruzer 26-2251 & 26-2241 are a compelling value for dual bevel sliding miter saws - especially for most garage shops. In this video I'll take you through the features, my thoughts after using my RIDGID for 6+ months, and ultimately whether or not I think you should get one.
There are a couple potential deal breakers with this saw but assuming you can get past them - it's tough to beat from a value/capacity standpoint. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the review. Did this video help you in your decision? Did it re-enforce your original thoughts? Anything I missed? Leave them in the comments!

I think showing the blade deflection across a bunch of saws in this category was a great contribution to this discussion.
How did he get all the saws to show us this??
@@michaelhooper9729 13:28 He bought them.
Most of these miters deflect. If you don't want deflection. Get one of those 2000 lb radial arm pro shop saws
@@jjohnson8977 Or a Mafell ERIKA, except it doesn't rotate in place so it's not really a one-to-one tool. It does completely isolate the carriage from the user's clumsy handling though so there's no way to deflect the blade in "chop-saw" operation. It's also a ~$4,000 tool.
Kapex has pretty much none.
Retired cabinet maker here. This review is top tier. I LOVE that your display area is spotless and totally dust free for the video creation. You are very articulate and your explanations are dead nuts on. I was in business for forty years doing high end work in Boston. So so professional you are ( do in Yoda voice ). I wish all of CZcams videos were of this quality. And the way they have designed the movement arms these days is amazing.
Great review! As an owner of the 12” Delta Cruzer model, I have to agree with each point you made, both the good and bad ones. I am also the owner of the dust chute you designed and am incredibly happy with it! It does make a huge difference in dust control. I no longer get a blast of saw dust in my face when I use it. I was so bad that I got to the point where I was always looking for a suitable alternative to the miter saw when a cut was needed, just to avoid the dust. Now I go straight to the miter saw with no hesitation. Thank you so much for that!
I do not see that as a professional tool. Maybe for a framer. But it's made to fit on a workbench easy which isn't where framers work...
From a professional standpoint I would go with the Bosch for the money or the Kapex (gulp) for the quality of cut.
From a homeowners standpoint. This would lead me to still want to hire a professional for anything critical. Which might be exactly what you're looking for!
I use the Bosch. I saw it as a game changer when it came out. Our company picked one up 10 years ago it seems when we landed a big hardwood job. It's been a workhorse! It even survived a car accident with minimal damage.
Great Review as you always do! Your honesty is the best part of your reviews - you don't sugar coat anything.
Thanks!!
Hands down the best and most honest review of a miter saw I've seen. By someone who actually used the miter saws, knows the features and flaw, not just cut a few boards. Great points and tips. I wouldnt of thought about the miter clearance left to right being an issue. 👍
What a difference it makes to get an honest end user review. I have been a long time viewer of your channel and really enjoy your content. Go Vols!
I was a little worried about installing the blade after reading a couple of reviews. But it was amazingly easy. Took about 1 minute. Works great czcams.com/users/postUgkxjpBI8OOeUXib_iT7UomCrQ-uauwZJ62c . Cuts easily and is perfect for pocket cuts I needed to make for replacing some old deck boards.
Great stuff! Very good video. I had a similar experience with the Delta I had.
Hola Matt! I've seen your review videos as well. Take care sir! 👊
Great video! After having a sliding miter saw for years and finding out all will have deflection, I use it less and less and use my table saw for the perfect 90 degree cuts I need. If I had to do it over again, I think I'd just buy a chop saw (save the room and space) to do my rough cutting (and flip over if I need to) and use the TS to get my final pieces. Really the only thing the sliders have going for is convince at that point.
I’m heading over to HD this afternoon to pick up the 10” version that I ordered online a few days ago. I just couldn’t pass up the $299 sale price. At first I was a bit nervous watching this review, but now I feel encouraged that I made a good choice given my needs. Thanks!
Great video - really like your ability to fairly compare this unit for what it is (a miter saw) and not set an unrealistic standard that no miter saw meets, especially in regard to deflection. Really looking forward to your comparison video!
Great cutaway to the dust collection team’s failure! That skit took extra work and editing time. Bravo!
I have had the delta 10" cruzer for a couple years. I love it. Never had any problems with it and have been cutting a lot of aluminum (with the right blade). It hardly needs any force to cut so just glide the blade down and no deflection.
I have owned the 12" Delta Cruzer (26-2251) since November 2020, and I concur with every bit of this, including the awesomeness of the dust collection chute he designed.
I have the 12 inch Bosch. I think the deflection is something you overcome with technique. I make it a point to be "easy" on the grip and chop instead of grabbing the handle like it's an arm wrestling contest. I do agree with your comment and others should also be aware. Even the Bosch and Festool saws arent really the best options for a glue line cut but they are both impressive machines. Dust collection is lousy (I think it's a rule for miter saws to have crappy dust control) but they are amazing saws. Noted the Festool does have the best factory dust collection as I'm told by other woodworkers at least until we have your version for the Bosch! Great review and awesome content! Shop greatness achieved!
I'm a cabinetmaker. I've tried several of these robo arm chop saws. They all have less accuracy/more wobble than a traditional rail guided saw. Would not recommend.
As another Bosch owner I agree with everything you said here.
When I first got mine I was really bummed about all the deflection from the video reviews I kept finding when looking for dust collection. At the end of the day I realized it's not sloppy loose fit so the saw won't just give random cuts. It's deflection and a a general rule I just don't push on handles sideways hard enough to select the saw
And making all your cuts on a table saw isn't always practical like Sean said. No one wants to cut crown moulding on a table saw
Well done. I just got my first Dewalt 13 inch planer, a cabinet saw is next, then the new compound sliding miter saw. This video really helped. Love your content man. Keep up the good work!
Good sir, this here is a quality video from beginning to end. We are shopping for a new miter saw with the "bendy" arms and was shocked to see the price increase on the Deltas. We had no idea the Rigid version existed. We now have our new saw, and we now know where to go for the dust collection improvement attachment. Well done and thank you.
Got to say that I appreciated all of the work (and expense) you undertook to make this video. Your shop is immaculate which speaks to what you demand out of your tools and so I feel comfortable that you 1) know what you are talking about and 2) are not biased by free tools from a given supplier. Thanks. Guess that your comment about not having this saw in a cabinet shop clearly lands me in the "hobbist" set.
Thanks for your time. Your reviews are fair to the consumer and the manufacturer.
Your suggestion to keep it locked should be something more people notice. A huge percentage of us would be able to make almost all the cuts we need on a regular old non-sliding mitre saw. Cheaper, more accurate, lighter, and easier to keep tuned, non-sliders should be in more shops.
I agree with your observation but not 100% your conclusion. In "chop saw mode" and dialed in, my Bosh Slide makes great cuts. But I don't always need perfect cuts...sometimes I just need the convenience of getting close, especially when cutting long boards. Of course there are times when I need to break down boards that are 7-8 inches wide x 1 1/2" thick, and a non-slider won't do the job. I've long debated whether a non-sliding saw would be sufficient for me, and always conclude that the slider provides flexibility that is great to have when I need it.
Travis - as always, a great review. You've covered the current field of low-end mitre saws (for the masses) while giving viewers what they need to make an informed decision on what to purchase. I think you dust collection undertaking is admirable, and you've given people a much better solution that the manufacturer, and something they can live with long term. Keep 'em coming!
That skit about dust collection was hilarious. Thanks for the great reviews on these saws.
Thank you so much for the honest and open review. It helped me feel comfortable with my purchase. You were logical with you review and I appreciate it.
You scared me when I saw your video title. I just bought the R4251 and installed your dust chute. Love the saw and the dust chute works great! Thank you Travis!
Great video. Thorough and compete. I have the Dewalt, and struggle trying to get the cuts I want. So I use it for rough cutting down to size and then my tablesaw for the cuts I want.
Thanks for the video. You have us tons of information regarding miter saws, which is very appreciated.
I love this saw. I replaced my Dewalt DWS779R with the Ridgid 12" to save space. I wouldn't call it an upgrade but it worked for me. I was also hit with the bottom miter pivot issue on my miter station. The plans I got from your site that I also love. Luckily I had the room to move the left side of the station over so that's what I did then expanded the center an extra 8". That fixed the pivot issue. Your dust upgrade keeps it much cleaner than when the Dewalt was doing the cutting. It's funny I bought that saw to save space and ended up using more space in my shop. Oh well, it worked out okay and I'm happy.
Thanks, terrific review. You covered the most salient points have helped to consider this as another option.
You’ve devoted yourself to every woodworkers nightmare and we thank you! Please take on table saws next. My rigid ts3650 was horrible till I got dirty with a new design while still making it look factory. Great series of videos! A lot of work here and it’s noticed.
Very impressive! Clean, concise and well detailed. Oh, and funny as well. Learned a lot and will use this for my purchase decision.
Great video, thanks for putting in the work on reviewing this saw (and looking forward to next comparison video too). When I finally get one will get your dust collection adapter for sure.
Loved the video. Loved the dig on Festool Aficionados. I was impressed with your dust collector for the Rigid saw and it’s great to know you’re creating them for others. I am particularly interested in what you come up with for Bosch.
Thanks! Been waiting for this dust collection fix for a while! Just ordered on etsy, can't wait to install it!
I have the 12" Delta Cruzer and absolutely love it. Agree with you on all points, great saw.
A fantastic review, your explanation is suburb. Thank you for a great experience watching your honest opinion and easy going, easy to understand review.
Great info. Just pulled the trigger when it was at $399. I'll be grabbing the plans to print the dust chute today as well. Great work!
I'm a professional carpenter and bought the 12" Delta Cruiser a few years ago. I LOVE it!!! The weaknesses of the saw I make up for with my 20+ years of experience and my favorite part of this saw is how effortless using the saw is compared to the traditional sliders that need large gorillas to operate them after the slides get clogged.
Wow, very well done! I will definitly look for other video's you produce!!!
Love your videos!! Always so helpful!!
Thank you for the insightful review on both saws. This was exactly what I was looking for to help decide on which I wanted. On the crosscut length, I believe the claimed depth is based on tilting the work at about a 45* thus giving you the additional 3+ inches of work width. Give it a try and see if it adds up. Thanks again. Oh, and I love your shop! Great layout and love how organized and tidy everything is.
Thank you! I'm gearing up to get my shop back in order after many (MANY) years of just being a catch all. My old chop saw had suffered under the Arizona sun even though it was in a shed. Poor thing snapped in half from the heat. The handle just self destructed. I was debating on fixing vs replacing. I believe you helped me make that choice. :)
Would love for you to make a dust collection chute for the dewalt saw. I work in my garage as well and it would be a game changer for me. Great video as always.
Yes, please!!! Save us dewalt users from the dust nightmare!!!! I'd buy one yesterday if it was available!
Me too!
Woooo! Can't wait for it!!
Do it. Do it. I’ll buy one the second it becomes available.!
The DeWalt and Hercules have the same dust chute. I’d buy one for each of mine. DeWalt in the shop and the Hercules to lug around to job sites.
Great review. Your delivery is outstanding.
Very cool comparison of the saw’s. Thanks for putting this together.
Thanks for letting us know about the sale. I have been looking at this saw for a while and waiting for a sale to come around
Thanks for the dust collection upgrade!
I sold my delta cruzer 12" and bough the bosch glide 12", and I experience very similar drawbacks on both models. Then I come to the reliazation that I should not use miter saw for finish cuts for funiture pieces. Track saw or table saw is more suitable for cross cut wide pieces depending on the situation. Miter saw for rough dimensioning is such a great tool.
in my shop I use my non slider dewalt for miters on molding, baseboard, and other trim. so if I get one of these I need a good degree of accuracy when the motor is locked in place. it would be nice to have the extra capacity on occasion, but the deflection is making me hesitate on adding one of these to my shop.
@@stevehoffman3341 I might do the same next.
Very cool video and comparisons. The shadow like is genius. I remember when the laser line came out and how “magical” it was. These new butterfly designs are quite cool for sure. Good luck on the dust collection quest!
Very nicely done. Great review. I would buy one IF I had lots of cross cuts to do, but I can use my custom made table saw sled for that also.
My old 10" Delta Shopmaster works for the smaller items that I need.
I may get one of these in the future though.
Thanks
Dude I’m super stoked that you are working on a better dust collection for the Bosch. Thanks for doing that and I will be buying one, once you get it worked out.
Thanks - this was very useful as it aligns with how I would use a miter saw.
Great review, Travis! Always enjoyable and a good use of my time :)
3:29 cannot unsee the face on the dust collection bag in the background😱
His Dust Chute is great. I did have to make one modification to it, though. He has you use shelf liner at the front edge, and it worked fine for me while I was using my shop vacuum. Then, I upgraded to a 1.5hp dust collector, and the shelf liner would get sucked up into the chute. So, I had to duct tape a piece of copper wire to the front edge to hold it in position/shape.
A thicker materials works well too, almost like a thin rubber seems to be stiff enough to resist collapsing
Hola! 🖐Thanks for this video and your input, it truly is packed with lots of info. I currently have a 10" Delta, it's a good little workhorse; I dug this guy out of the trash believe it or not. I purchased a used 12" Makita that has an extremely frayed cord, I'll have to repair that soon. Once I finally get my shop up and running, I'll be definitely put not only a Miter Saw but a whole station. Until then, this review and future review videos will really help me out. Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
This was very helpful for me! Thank you
As usual awesome and Helpful video. I personally have a Makita 12" LS1219L which I love but also needs some help with dust collection. Looking forward to all of your reviews
AWESOME reveiw! Love the company engineer department meeting, sounds about accurite, off to purchase my rigid 10" and order the dust chute from your etsy shop! Appreciate your time for creating this reveiw.
Thanks for the review. It was very clarifying
Great review. I appreciated the in depth analysis. Thanks!
Great review, Travis. Great video. Thanks
You’re an excellent communicator sir. Enjoyed the video.
I’ve been looking to purchase one of these for my new setup since i sold my 12 inch dewault. Thanks for making this video Travis! I’m a sucker for the Delta brand and since they see to make both, I’m sold on getting that one and getting one of your dust chutes to complete the setup! You’ll see my order in soon!
OMG the engineering team bit. Nailed it! lol
That shadow feature would be something I would fall in love with for sure!
NIce overview. I haven't had a real need for a miter saw, so I'm holding off, and having a good review will help when the time comes.
Will be interested in any comparison video you put out.
Hell yes, bought the dust chute before the video was over. Glad there is a solution!
Fantastic video… I have had the Ridged 10” for 3 years now. It’s been awesome just like you’ve said (including the terrible dust collection). 😂 You are spot on with everything. Glad I found you and I’ll be subscribing to your channel now and buying the dust insert too. 👻Hurray.
Oh and lastly I have to say, you are “Woodworking-Guy”, “Eye Candy”. It’s nice to see a clean, funny well mannered, handsome guy making woodworking videos… ⭐️👍🏻
Your video sold them all out!! I kept mine in my cart for one day and POOF! All gone
Excellent information. Thanks for the thorough review and work you put into this.
I agree with this review. I have the Rigid 12 inch and for me cutting sticks for framing walls it is great. And I love the shadow line. I am happy with it.
Great review thanks for doing it!
I look forward to your dust collection solution for the Bosch 12" Miter Saw, as that is the one I own.
Having used a DeWalt miter saw for 2 years that shadow line is the best feature ever. I absolutely love that little light.
You make a good argument for a non-sliding miter saw. You state that for more precise cuts, use your table saw and sliding table. I had a regular Delta miter saw and when I had a longer cut, I simply held the wood against the back and lifted it to finish the cut. Not the safest, but never a problem. Now I have a slider and had to make a sliding table on my bench to bring it out for the full use. Something you could do to get full use of your saw.
Thank you for this video. It inspired me to tackle the biggest dust generator in my shop…the ROUTER!
I made a dust collector for my Dewalt DW618.
It works well with my Porter Cable dovetail jig. I’ll be testing in other applications.
Your video is 2 days to late! I bought the ridged 10 inch, but I was aware of the short comings. Still a huge upgrade over my old Ryobi. Looking forward to trying out your dust collection solution. Thanks for doing all the leg work for us.
Commenting to support the channel! Awesome miter saw detail. Thanks!
Super video just shared this with my brother who is about the purchase the 12” saw
Thanks for the information
Tom in Massachusetts
Great review. I have had the Dewalt 780, for several years, and it works great for average garage work, around the home, and job site. I love it, and it will last me for years. But the new sliding arm technology is pretty great, for a bench mounted system.
Thanks for this detailed review, and the info. On that other dust collector attachment!
DeWalt is only 3.00 in depth longer
@@purtis99 Ah... Well my saw is on the mobile stand, so it fits almost anywhere. The problem is, it does get buried in the garage, behind other crap in the floor.
Thanks for the honest reviews that is why I love your channel well and the cool stuff you design lol ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
Great review, I’m currently looking into a new mitre saw so this was very helpful!!!
Travis, I had the same issue as you with being unable to swing my miter saw to full miter deflection, but I came up with a relatively simple solution. I removed the top surface material from my cabinet and reinforced the upper mounting area of the cabinet, then attached some mounting blocks to the underside of the surface material. I installed 8” (200mm) soft close drawer slides I found on Amazon between the new cabinet reinforcements and the surface mounting blocks so my work surface will slide out and give me the clearance I need. If you get the soft closing type of slide, it does a nice job of holding the saw in the “normal” position for the vast majority of your work. I added two additional holes and put a pin on each side of the front to lock it out in the full open position for when I’m doing my full twist miter cuts. And I don’t know if it’s necessary, but I used 2 slides per side for a total of 4 to give me the most “solid” feel to the sliding surface. I hope that helps! Keep pursuing shop greatness!
That was my thought about the drawer slides. I'm actually working on a workbench that will have about 6 spaces to mount tools to. But, I'm mounting all the tools on platforms and attaching the inside drawer slides to all of the tools so I can take them on and off as needed along with a plain solid platform if you're not using a tool in that spot. Using under the workbench for tool storage cabinet that will have outer drawer slides. Just a way to double or triple work space instead of multiple bases on wheels so you can move them around.
Great video! I think you gave the dust collection guys too much credit though! 🤣🤣
I used an old Craftsman 10" miter (dual bevel) for years. It has much worse blade deflection than any you showed. But managing it was possible through technique. Like you said, you should NOT be fighting the tool. Let it do the work for you.
Great video, and I am definitely looking forward to a comparison that actually includes three brand/models I am interested in purchasing next. Thanks!
Thanks Travis! I've been looking at that Rigid 12" saw for a while. I've got a construction project starting at my house. I'm thinking I now need to pick one up. When I do I'll have to order your dust collection attachment.
I am definitely in for a revised dust collection solution for the dws779/780. Looking forward to it!
Great video, love your content and wish you had more available to do more saws. I would love some CAD instruction or best practices sometime too!
Thank for this very comprehensive video.
I do believe the Ridgid or Delta 10 or 12" saw you just reviewed will be my next miter saw. Thanks for the info. Been wanting this style for a while. Great video. Thx
Very good job I learned a lot from this video things that I didn't even know to look for thank you
Very excellent video, that’s full of useful info, thanks!
Good stuff, Travis. Thanks for doing this.
Great review, learned by a lot
Thank you . Helps especially since miter saws dewalt and rigid fare on sale .
Very nice. Can't wait for the comparison video. Been looking at the Ridgid and the bosch. Big difference in price.
I love my Metabo 7-1/4" sliding miter saw. It has an unbelievable 13" cut capacity with forward arms so it takes up less room.
Crazy expensive, yes... But a standout in it's class.
Over the years I've realized it's the only miter saw I need for my workflow since I'm never crosscutting timbers over 2" thick on a miter saw.
Milwaukee and DeWalt for reference only have an 8" cut capacity. I can easily cut through 2x12's or 8" siding at more than 45 degrees.
Anyone who has done siding with a miter saw can appreciate the convenience of being able to make these cuts accurately.
This made the deal! I have been going back and forth between the Dewalt slider and the rigid or Delta lol and the deflection is what made my mind up for the Dewalt but after watching this I’m going with the New Rigid/ Delta. Thank you so much for the video.
Nice work here. Loved the meeting skit for the dust collection design. 40 years in big corporate makes that skit hilarious.
Very well done. Thank you
