    Just a correction there as you got it the other way around...
    When you press the pedal it actually relieves the pressure on the switch and when you let go of the pedal it pressed the switch back in
    switch pressed = brake lights off
    switch relieved = brake lights on
    Audi/VW made it this way so you dont crush your brake switch upon hard braking.

    Nice clear video, but perhaps it might have been a good addition to explain to your audience what the brake light switch affects when it goes bad, besides the brake lights (ie. shift lock - not being able to get it out of PARK and possibly the cruise control on some models). Not to the CZcamsrs, if your transmission is locked in Park, there could be other issues, besides the brake switch, such as the shift lock solenoid which is located under the shifter mechanism...locations vary in this area depending on your model of Audi.

    @SimonLittler Před 5 lety +2

    Thanks for the really clear video. Are you able to offer advice on installing a new brake pedal sensor? Searching the forums there is conflicting information - some people say to leave the pedal up (ie not pressed down!) while installing and some say to fully press the pedal down, insert the sensor, release the pedal while holding the sensor in place and then twist the sensor into position once the pedal is back up. Others say that you should fully press the pedal down, install (and twist the sensor into position) and then release the pedal. I'm aware that the twisting is the critical phase of the installation so if you can confirm best practice I'd be very grateful.

    • @rockgin
      @rockgin Před 4 lety

      No need to press the pedal down when installing the sensor. The end of it will compress as it's being installed against the brake lever mechanism (make sure you go in straight with the new sensor), once seated...turn 1/4 clockwise to lock it into its housing, push in the electrical connector -- Done.

    Can a faulty brake pedal swith cause the ESP senzor error below?
    00493 - ESP-Sensor Unit (G419)
    001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
    Before haveing the ESP light on on the dash, i had occasions when the pilot would not engage. After few brake pedal pushes, it came back to normal. I'm trying to find out whether the ESP light and pilot not always engaging could have the same cause as being this brake pedal switch.
    Thanks!

    • @TotalTechnik

      Hey there!
      This issue comes up quite a bit on Audi's and can be a pain to track down. I would try resetting the ABS pump on Vag Com due
      to what you mentioned with the brakes turning the error off. Get that out of the way first as that has solved this issue for quite a few people in the past.
      Next up would be the ESP Sensor Unit, and wiriing between that and brakes. The brake pedal sensor is a possibility, but there are a few things first to try that are more likely. Start on the ABS Pump and hopefully that will sort it for you.
      Best of luck!

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  Před 2 lety +1

      Hmm, unlikely if it is only affecting one bulb. More likely there is a wiring issue somewhere to the bulb. It would be worth checking the bulb socket with a multimeter and see if the 12v feed is stable or it it dips.

      Has it suddenly done this, or have you struggled to get it into/out of gear in the past, or had any gear slippage etc when driving? These will help pinpoint likely causes.

    Can this sensor brings a problem to cruise control if its not work properly?

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  Před 6 lety

      In theory yes it can be a factor because cruise will disengage if you change speed using the accelerator or brake pedals (i.e. back to manual control). So if the car is receiving a signal telling it the brake pedal is engaged then this could indeed throw off the cruise.

    Did you know the part number of that sensor?

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  Před 2 lety

      We don't have it available anymore unfortunately. It's best to look at your old one first (I know, it's a pain!) because you could find that your part number is not identical to the one in this video depending on the exact model you have. It should be fairly generic, but always worth checking before ordering the new one just in case.
