Welcome to South East Asia! While in Danang, do make a side trip to Hoi Ann and Hue :). I really enjoyed Hoi Ann at night, where along the river, you can see hordes and hordes of tourists releasing paper lanterns lit by candles. It was quite a sight, and very memorable. Pls do a video on this :) I stayed in Hoi Ann overnight for 1 night, when I was in Vietnam about 10 years ago. Regarding Malaysia, you mentioned Ipoh which is quite interesting but usually, it is not in the itinerary of most Western tourists. So, I will be keen to hear your experience. While in Penang/ Georgetown, do take a ferry ride to the island of Langkawi. I think you will like it :)

Hi Mike! Thanks for the great recommendations. We are currently in Da Nang and have plans to visit Hue and Hoi An, as well as My Son Sanctuary about 1 hour outside the city. Ipoh will be interesting. We may try to take few day trips. The Cameron Highlands is nearby, but we’re not sure how “touristy” it is. Interesting you mentioned Langkawi. We were looking at it as a possible destination, but we haven’t had enough time to research it. We will look at adding it to our itinerary at some point. So many places to research, see, and discover!!!

@@388_days If you do go to Cambodia, you must avoid the coastal city of Sihanoukville, where many casinos and scam centres / compounds are located. Human trafficking is rife there. Of course, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Cambodia are very safe. Similarly, while in Thailand, do avoid the northern areas bordering Myanmar, where many scam compounds are located on the Myanmar side of the border. Human trafficking is rife there too. Otherwise, South East Asia is very safe :)

Sounds like a great travel plan. We’re currently in Ho Chi Minh City. Are you still in Vietnam?

We just wrapped up our time in Hanoi and are currently in Da Nang for a couple more weeks, leaving right after Christmas. We should meet up if we end up in the same city.

@@388_days We had been vacillating on taking a side trip somewhere, but we ultimately decided to visit Hanoi for a few days. We'll cut our time short here in HCMC and see what we think of Hanoi. Any chance you have a side trip planned? We would love to meet up if it could work.

@FindingGinaMarie we left Hanoi last week and are in Da Nang with side trips planned to Hue and Hoi An. We’ll DM you on Instagram.

When will you be in Indonesia? January-March are still rainy season. Hope it won't dampen your plan. Thanks for planning to visit!

Thanks for commenting and sharing that feedback. We will be in Malaysia March - April. Then we will visit Indonesia in May for at least two months (if not longer). We figure at some point it will be raining so we will be flexible with our travel plans.

I tried to type more suggestions, but CZcams won't let me. Maybe they think it's a spam 😑
Oh, well. Lots of info out there and I might comment another time. Me myself in Jakarta, the capital city (soon-to-be-former).

@mthr17cj we plan to spend a few days in Jakarta so let us know if have any suggestions. We will take the ferry from Bali to Java and travel around toward Jakarta (train and maybe bus). Right now we will probably visit Banyuwangi for a couple of days and then go to Suryabaya. From there Yogyakarta to visit the temples. Then we will take a train toward Jakarta. We haven’t quite figured everything out, but that’s the rough plan.

We were in Türkiye for Ramadan last year. I was surprised how many people were not observing the fast. All of the restaurants and coffee shops were open and serving food. I guess we will discover how it is in Malaysia. Thanks for reminding us about Ramadan.
