Thanks for watching ❤❤❤
This is called singing in falsetto. Barry’s voice the lead in this song has a normal male voice. All three brothers were able to sing in falsetto but Barry was known for the best falsetto at that time. Another great song that was a # 1 hit and was very popular in the disco era was YOU SHOULD BEE DANCING by The Bee Gees with Barry taking lead again. It’s a very popular dance music. ❤❤❤
Barry has a normal male speaking voice. The falsetto is just for the music. When I hear this song I always picture John Travolta dancing in the movie. There are some great disco tracks from the 70s and early 80s.
OMG I was about 14 in 1977 when this song came out. I remember watching my best friend's older brother and his girlfriend practicing their Disco dance moves all week long to be ready for Friday night at the clubs. I was in awe. I wished so badly that I could go to clubs, but watching those two was like magic. They were so good. If you're going to explore Disco, you should know a few things. There is American disco largely based on R&B and Eurodisco which is more electronica based (Donna Summer straddled both kinds). There was a huge animosity among many Rock fans for Disco music culminating in "Disco Demolition Night" which derailed the Bee Gee's career (they went on writing huge hits for others), the reasons are complex. Disco music was primarily for fun, escapism, and dancing, dancing, dancing. Some critics say it wasn't "serious" music and it was never meant to be (neither was a lot of Rock) so don't expect that, but it lives on influencing music today with electronica (like Donna Summer's "I Feel Love") and with people like Nile Rodgers (of Chic) and Giorgio Moroder still producing hits today for others. You want some Disco? Here are some picks (too many for sure, but Disco gets so little attention that I couldn't help it): Donna Summer "Last Dance", "Love to Love You", "I Feel Love", Bad Girls", "No More Tears" w Barbra Streisand Chic "Good Times" and "Le Freak" Patti LaBelle "Lady Marmalade" Sylvester "You Make Me Feel", "Dance (Disco Heat)", "I (Who Have Nothing)", and "Do You Wanna Funk" Barry White "Can't Get Enough of Your Love" and "You're the First, the Last, My Everything" KC & the Sunshine Band "Boogie Shoes", "I'm Your Boogie Man", "Get Down Tonight" Evelyn Champagne King "Shame" Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive" and "Never Can Say Goodbye" Hughes Corporation "Rock the Boat" GQ "Disco Nights" Vicki Sue Robinson "Turn the Beat Around" MFSB "T.S.O.P (the Sound of Philadelphia)" Taste of Honey "Boogie Oogie Oogie" Odyssey "Native New Yorker" Giorgio Moroder "From Here to Eternity" and "Too Hot to Handle" Tavares "Don't Take Away the Music" Dan Hartman "Countdown" Heatwave "Boogie Nights" and "Groove Line" Lime "You're My Magician", "Your Love", and "Unexpected Lovers" Diana Ross "The Boss", "I'm Coming Out", and "Upside Down" Village People "Go West", "YMCA", and "Macho Man" Cheryl Lynn "Star Love"
I was too young to go to the disco as well. I know they played these songs at them though. My brother used to go to the disco and I was jealous. The Bee Gees had older songs before Saturday Night Fever. In their older songs, their voices were deeper. They did falsetto for the disco songs. For disco songs, you could listen to Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees or That's the Way I Like It by K.C. and the Sunshine Band.
The only tune who not wents to #1 from the best selling soundtrack worldwide of all time, but he for sure as equal #1 material and sets a tiktok trend 2023 - generation Z loves the Bee Gees 🔥 with 12 immortal tunes on #1 US Billboard Top 100 on 44 weeks 🔥 - the totally dominated the golden seventies who was not happened since the Beatles one decade before 💪
Disco was my youth, we went many weekends to the disco, having fun, drinking, (its allowed with 16 in my country Austria), flirting, and dancing the whole night. And the Bee Gees music (soundtrack from the movie saturday night fever was a huge part of the disco music. This song belonged to the slow dancing, where boys with the girls danced very close to each other, kissing....! It was a great time, maybe the best and most beautiful in my life!
If you want another side to Barry's vocals try something like "The Change is Made", "Sound of Love", "Bury Me Down by the River", or "Don;t Wanna Live Inside Myself" all will showcase his more soulful chest voice. For something more uptempo rocky you could try "Every Second, Every Minute" or maybe "Down the Road". For a funkier tune try "Nights on Broadway" or "Wind of Change" both of which are primarily chest voice with some falsetto ad libs thrown in. Also, check out "Monday's Rain" to experience the Bee Gees low register - this is a Robin/Barry shared lead but one of the lowest register Bee Gee songs I can think of at the moment. The one word I associate most with the Bee Gees is diversity. Or maybe SuperAmazingDiverseMusicalGenius, lol. For me, the hands down best disco song is "You Should Be Dancing".
Hello there! What a great tune from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. They have a wonderful way of harmonizing. Fun memories from my disco years! Love your shirt Ethan 😊
Nice shirt Ethan. My wife saw Styx at her High School before they hit it big. Dad's mic might just be scared about him yelling POOOOOLL Thursday!! and it's revolting, lol.
The best part of this song s when the chorus starts. I don't care what anyone says, they say "Bald Headed Woman." The next line goes to "More" then back to Bald ..".
Good suggestions Cheryl, though I myself won't give disco song suggestions. It's not my thing. I shot and killed disco back in the early eighties and buried it in my backyard but somehow it has escaped the grave and haunts me on CZcams, lol.
It's always fun to see younger generations enjoying music of The BeeGees. And no, Barry does not have a falsetto speaking voice, lol. Here's a clip of Barry telling various anecdotes of things they experienced in their career czcams.com/video/rVbHWLvTCCw/video.html
Larry POOOOOOLL THURRRRRRRSDAY'd his mic into submission. Frankie Valli sang like that. I don't think Larry was old enough to get into a disco when this came out in '77.
@@66edoug Oh I know. I wore them to school and was scared to go up and down the stairs. They were forbidden for grade school graduation because of the risers so the girls all wore blue booties instead because no one would settle for 2 inch heels or less. I think the booties were dangerous because the floor was slippery. 😯
@@cherylreichardt They probably waxed the floor for the graduation. Our grade school didn't do that. High school did and made us practice the right way to walk.
Just found your channel. It's cool that father and son have something in common and not sit in front of the t.v. or computer. Speaking of hitting the high notes you guys should listen to Steel Heart 'I will never let you Go". Talk about a wide range in his voice you need to listen to this. Keep up the good work and I will go on to your next video.
One word...... FALSETTO. Barry Gibb may not have invented falsetto but he sure used it to it's max. I've heard Barry talk in interviews and his voice is in what I would call a "normal" range. It's certainly not high like Michael Jacksons talking voice. Barry sings "normal" (no falsetto) in some songs There have been other groups that sing in falsetto such as "The Tokens", Michael Jackson of course, Ambrosia, The Righteous Brothers (one sang falsetto), The Beach Boys and The Temptations. I believe what made The Bee Gees stand out was the mix of falsetto with almost perfect harmonies with the other two brothers.
I saw the Bee Gees live in 1971 pre Disco. ethan that was before your Dad as born. I was amazed the Bee Gees transitioned right through tse disco years which showed their writing abilities. I really hated disco mostly but liked the Bee Gee stuff and also another band called Heatwave whose main writer Rod Temperton wrote songs for Michael Jackson including Thriller and Off the Wall . check out Heatwave Ethan. Its 70's cool pop funk
Nice reaction! Speaking of a falsetto singing voice, I would be awesome if you would check out the four seasons. Frankie Valli was the lead singer and he has an amazing voice! Amazing perfectly controlled falsetto! Sherry, Big girls don’t cry, walk like a man, Rag doll and many many more! Sherry was out in 1962, their first song and it went to number 1! I’d love to see Ethan’s reaction to them! 😀
For disco songs, I got to go with I Love the Nightlife (Disco Round) by Alicia Bridges. As a kid, I had a crush on her after seeing her promtional video with her wearing a gold leather outfit. Turns out it was lame', not leather. Worst yet, I found out years later that she is a lesbian.
Barry had 3 voices, his normal chest voice, his falsetto and he also had a light breathy type voice such as in Jive Talkin. They were so better than just disco. Please do abit of research. By the way Jive Talkin is not disco, its R&B/funk.
. . . i started a joke , but never mind. For me this is a change of pace. I tended to stay away from discos. It seemed to me their dancing clothes were more uncomfortable than my work clothes. I really hated disco at the time, but since then I've gone through an almost Matt Damon-like experience (re The Martian) and come around to regard it with some nostalgia. Some disco tunes were fun - the Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band covered by a producer called Meco (Domenico Monardo) as a disco funk tune is a favourite. I cannot unlink it from the original film in my mind, despite John Williams' classic score being so well established throughout the saga.
His talking voice is not like he sings. It's falsetto. Others that do falsetto well are Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons and Lou Christie off the top of my head. Disco was mostly 70's style. The film Saturday Night Fever was THE disco movie. The song you just reacted to is from that film. One of my fav disco tunes was Shake Your Groove Thing by Peaches and Herb.
