Betroffenheit describes a state of shock and trauma so all-encompassing no words can do it justice. Listen to choreographer Crystal Pite discuss the process of creating the show in this Banff Centre Talks excerpt, hosted by Dominic Girard.
Crystal and her company, Kidd Pivot, were at The Banff Centre in 2015 creating and refining "Betroffenheit". It's co-created by Jonathon Young and Electric Company Theatre. The show premieres July 23, 2015 at the Pan Am Games in Toronto.

Just watched for a second time Angels Atlas, in Toronto, performed by the National Ballet of Canada. Beautiful beautiful unique, moving. Can't wait to see Betroffenheit again. Hope it is remounted in Toronto sometime soon. Crystal Pite is one of the great artists of our time. Beautiful, thoughtful, innovative, ingenious, inspirational artist and craftswoman.

Incredible piece, especially regarding the problems today's society is facing - the need to always be proud, overachieve and present newer, better achievements to feel valued and frustration when said is not accomplished. Also, I like how there is no spoken language in it, suggesting that the acts come from the subconsciousness of the protagonist.
