Great video. I blue a spark plug in my 99'. Forget how many miles I had on the car. I got an insert kit designed to ream out and re-tap the spark plug hole and insert a double threaded insert. Worked like a charm and saved the replacement of the head. I used a Ford Triton "Time Sert" kit.
Just recently used the helicoil save a thread kit. It's been holding up so far. Read about the timesert after installing and would rather have gone with that. But so far the helicoil is holding up

It could be much worse off because some people don’t take good care of these cars …. I have a 2000 mustang V6 convertible and I love her, she’ has no power at all or no horsepower because I can tell she’s got some engine or exhaust issue but I’m slowly working on getting her together internally and externally
Lovely picture looks like mine,04 Mustang GT with deep dish chrome bullit wheels and I made my hood scoop function by drilling holes so air flow over the engine
CarGuyV8 no I drilled small holes there are two sets of holes one set on the scoop and the other set is the indentation of a scoop under the hood scoop. I keep mystang GT clean all ways if it’s raining i don’t drive it but many times I got caught in the rain and I was concerned but it didn’t get on my coils
Dont forget the throw out bearings issues. And all the cons of a clutch ran by a cable. Squeaking TOBs and TOBs lasting 500, 1000 miles is unfortunately extremely common. Although I might be a bit biased as 15 mins ago I just spent 600$ ordering new clutch parts because my TOB will not stop squeaking!!!
Yeah, my TOB was squeeking on my 2003 GT. I hated the noise but I didn't want to change the TOB until I had to have the clutch done. 2 years later, the clutch finally went out. Had it all done and here it is 4 years later (25k miles later), and the TOB is starting to squeek again. Love the car though, so I won't get rid of it until it fully dies.
Nice car !! I also have a 2004 GT 5spd. Mine is a RedFire convertible. Mine is stock except for a MGW shifter, and Magnaflow mufflers. I have 2 more cons. 1) when go to apply the brakes while driving, my right foot will push the brake pedal while pushing in the clutch pedal, Lol. Pedals are to close together. Also when I turn on the left turn signal, and then go to apply the brakes, my left knee will lift the turn signal arm up and turn off the turn signal, Lol
YOU HIT THE NAIL RIGHT ON THE HEAD ABOUT THE COMFORT. I recently started fixing up my 2000 mustang to give to my wife. She said she always wanted one when she graduated high school but her mom wouldn't get it. Said it was too fast for her. It's not the fastest car in the world, but it's not the smoothest ride either. My wife is use to Camry and Maxima. I keep trying to tell her she's likely gonna be disappointed once she actually drives or rides with me in it.
2003 GT Premium convertible. Top lift pistons gone disconnected and lift the top manually. There’s a trick to lifting top by yourself manually. Bought w 41k miles in 2009 now 98k and it’s still bulletproof and fast snuff. I need to replace headlights. Fantastic automobile, bone stock except for super 40 Flowmasters welded in.
Agree with everything said in the video. Mine sat up for 4-years, so I had to change radiator, thermostat, head gasket (2002 base convertible, manual shift). Problem now is that the exhaust manifold is overheating, but it only does it if the car is driven between 4-7 miles, not when its just idling. Various shops say nothing is wrong, but I can hear the tin clinking when I turn the car off and it stays hot for a long time afterwards. I put in the Cataclean, but that didn't help. I love my pony, just want to know what's ailing her.
The biggest CON is that the intake will start to leak and eventually dump all your coolant all together. The replacement is only about $200. If you can do it yourself, then that's not bad. But if you have to have someone do it, it will be about $1,200.
I have an '03 Mach 1 w/only 34,,000 miles and I agree with every Quarky item this gentleman mentioned, except the plugs on a 32v.. **love it though as a weekend car. Daily driver, not so much...
It’s not worth keeping it stock since the numbers it makes from the factory are sub par, but be careful when your trying to make power with these things. Buy supporting mods if you wanna push more than 400 hp. It’s reliable until you make power with it and forget to install supporting mods 👍🏽 happened to a buddy of mine who didn’t even have boost and always kept fluid in the car
In my opinion the 2004 Mustang GT is the best GT model. It has heads with more threads for the spark plugs so it’s less likely to shoot them out. But of course the 03-04 Terminators are the kings.
I have an 04 also. Only the cobras got the head fix on the threads. Most spark plugs that shoot out are operator error as in my case at 60k miles. I swapped my head tho. But 07-11 vics got the 9 thread head. Beautiful car by the way. Love DSG. I would have bought one but I bought a black 40th packaged car.
Thanks for the compliment! All 2004+ 2V heads are 8 thread and all "Ford Racing" heads are 8 thread. For the 4V cars, a common misconception is that the "blue stripe" heads are 8 thread or whatever, this is wrong. The only 4V C heads that are 8 thread are the 05 Revision Aviator heads and the limited supply of OEM 05+ cores you could get from Ford back in the 2000s.

Cons of owning my 2014 V6 Mustang: Governed to 110mph even though it has 300+ HP because the factory driveshaft explodes if you go much faster. Aluminum 1 peice driveshaft that won't explode- $750. Hand held tuner so you can turn off the governer after upgrading the driveshaft- $450. $1200 just so you can go over 110mph. Shoulda bought the $20,000 '16 Camaro RS I wanted 🙄
@@GHETTORIGGAMINGOFFICIAL Been there, done that. I owned 4 V8 fbodys prior to this 14 V6. This V6 makes more power than my fbody's did, lmao. I suppose this is the part where you smart off that my lt1's were junk and slow; yeah no shit, that's why I bought my '14 V6 stang. And the V8 stang was twice the price so there's your answer for that. Nobody buys the V6 version because they like it more than the V8, they buy what they can afford. Come on my channel and get thousands of more poeople to sub and watch my videos and then I'll be able to afford it...
I have a friend with a 3v that made a functional hood scoop and now water likes to get in and pool up on top of the back cylinders. No# 7 coil pack shorted out and so he was running on 7 cylinders for a little while. The Mach 1 shaker hood has a tight seal keeping water out.
The New Edge was a leap forward in styling. But that 4.6 is a dog. You can throw a bunch of money at it if you want only to still be slower than a stock LS of the same era. I think that's why every guy with one in my town has a loud exhaust and drives around in low gear. Good candidates for LS swaps though.
My 01 Cobra is lowered an inch and a half. Looks great but if I'd known that it would scrape on loose change left in the road I'd never bought it like that. Back roads are out of the question. Beautiful car but it likes smooth roads only.
What is the tire and wheel setup? And are they all the same size all around? If not what sizes? Im new to all this so i dont know what will fit and what won’t Thank you 🙏🏻
The cylinder head thread repair is t really that hard to repair, I have a 01 expedition that did that, hence why I got it for $200, Amazon had the repair kit fairly cheap, I might have $300 total in this thing, it runs and drives good now, and I'm getting ready to put it up for sale*
Gonna go look at a 97 cobra? After work. These were the about same aside from the body lines right? I just hate the leg room situation... probably will modify the seat rails .
I have an 01 gt convertible. Feels so sluggish compared to my 2013 gt. Mainly torque feels WAY less. But still fun with no issues and love dropping the top.
Gears are your friend. 4:10`s if your looking for quick acceleration from a stop but you'll loose that highway acceleration. 3:73's are the sweet spot for these cars and WAY better than stock.
BRO WHAT as a GM guy that ended up with a 2001 gt bullitt with a 5k engine and tranny both built brand new 97k on body and ab 300 wheel converted to manual my car rides sooo smootrhhhhhh
keeping my 2000 v6 manual, lite moded, not a boring drive in a busy city roads at all. Engine is still strong and no worry for that interference engines crap breaking something or plastic engine parts made today by Germans high performance, blah which wont last 100k lol
Hey, so I was GIVEN a shell from a car tear apart auction car. 98 Mustang. Nothing but the dash and wheel left of the car. Noting in the center console or radio area. Took years of pulling to get it together. Wanna talk about a shit show. Best "Worst" comment I got about the car. Was it was like riding a roller coaster. lol Made it 200,000 miles before the torque converter finally wore out and the repair was as much as a down payment on a solid college ride. Now i'm back in a 19 Mustang GT with all the bells. And boy does it feel nice to now have to ignore the roaring wind coming through the windows.
So I’ll make a long story short

I have a 2000 mustang V6 convertible and I love her, she’ has no power at all or no horsepower because I can tell she’s got some engine or exhaust issue but I’m slowly working on getting her together internally and externally
How’s it coming along?
It’s coming a long very slowly, she needed an oxygen sensor and sense then she’s running better and not using so much gas anymore
Lovely picture looks like mine,04 Mustang GT with deep dish chrome bullit wheels and I made my hood scoop function by drilling holes so air flow over the engine
Does water get on the coil packs with open hood scoop?
CarGuyV8 no I drilled small holes there are two sets of holes one set on the scoop and the other set is the indentation of a scoop under the hood scoop. I keep mystang GT clean all ways if it’s raining i don’t drive it but many times I got caught in the rain and I was concerned but it didn’t get on my coils
@@CarGuyV8 my 04 mach1 has a scoop😁
Great video! Learned a lot
great video. best of luck
Yeah my TOB is noisy too...
99-04 Mustangs are the best looking Mustang. Shit, might be my favorite looking car of all time.
Im 6'1" and ive never had problems with the seating position
I rethreaded all the spark plug holes in both my 00 Mustang and 01 V10 F250. I love the early 2000s Fords, even if they are slow by today's standards.
Definitely some facts in this video!
Nice wheels. Good looking mustang
i’m 6’2 seating is a little strange in my ‘01.. it’s a nice looking car don’t get me wrong but to get out of the driver seat it’s kind of awkward
The cats are what's causing that, replace them and it goes away
I have an 02 I completely took out my cats just ran straight pipe to my mufflers.
The biggest CON is that the intake will start to leak and eventually dump all your coolant all together. The replacement is only about $200. If you can do it yourself, then that's not bad. But if you have to have someone do it, it will be about $1,200.
Yeah I forgot to mention that.
@@CarGuyV8 I had a intake crack once in the winter on my 1998 GT. It has the plastic intake manifold. I replaced that did not have issue again.
$2 epoxy
Shifter placement is meant to be forward u shouldn’t feel relaxed in a Mustang , but I do agree it is an odd placement
I have an '03 Mach 1 w/only 34,,000 miles and I agree with every Quarky item this gentleman mentioned, except the plugs on a 32v..
**love it though as a weekend car. Daily driver, not so much...
Wow! I bet your Mustang is a sight to see! Beautiful, you don't see many of those around in excellent condition anymore. Semper fi
It’s not worth keeping it stock since the numbers it makes from the factory are sub par, but be careful when your trying to make power with these things. Buy supporting mods if you wanna push more than 400 hp. It’s reliable until you make power with it and forget to install supporting mods 👍🏽 happened to a buddy of mine who didn’t even have boost and always kept fluid in the car
when i drive my 00 I fall out of it and it's not lowerd all the way am 6 feet and I can still manage to look over my 4.1.5 double cowl hood
Stock ride hot is the time stamp title!! 😂😂 You're a funny guy!! *Henry Hill voice*
**laughs in Southern accent**
Good video man! What is the best year model for this generation of Mustang?
Let's not leave out my 04 mach1😁
How's it holding up? Driving well.
Yes it still drives well. I drive it a few times a week and it doesn’t give me any issues.
I’m 6’4” and I have no problems with the seating position in my 04 gt
99-04 seating is great. Im 5'9" and in the earlier sn95s 94-98 the seat doesnt go as far back and isnt great for tall drivers
Im the same height and i hated the seating position in my old 95 gt. Still had 3 SN95's over time though lol.
@@JamesC00 yeah lol i owned a newedge first and was surprised how much smaller the seating felt in the earlier ones lol
I’m 6’3” with a 03 GT and it’s not cramped or uncomfortable, just cozy I guess...
@@thomas6789 the newedge 99-04 seats go further back than the earlier sn95s
I have a 97 gt and and only 5'9 and it still feels a little small to me in terms of seating position
The 4.6 New Edge cars are a must one of the most reliable V8 in the world with so much aftermarket support
As someone who only wants a Mach1 or SVT Cobra from that era, I see this as a total win.
On my 99 Mustang six, auto - pretty nice riding car - I went one size wider on my 15" rims - makes it handle much better, ride better -
Im only 5’11 and yea the seating feels a little bit small but nearly a snugg fit
I have an 03 GT for a couple years now I never knew about the spark plug issue on these I thought that was inly on the trucks 5.4
Yep I’ve had two of these cars that never had a sparkplug issue, and one that blew one out and damaged the threads. My brother has one that’s blown one out and damaged the threads too.
Did you roll the rear arches? I put wider wheels on the back, looks like the same offset as yours. Lowered 1inch. I’m getting scrubbing over bumps.
I didn’t put these wheels on but the rear fenders are rolled a little.
Nice video! What size are your tires on the back and fronts? The stands is perfect and tires look to fill the wheel wells perfectly,
Thanks! 315/35 275/40 if I remember correctly
I am still driving Mine. Have been for 19 years NOW ! Best Car I have ever owned !
My is a 2004 forty Anniversary edition
3.9 motor
I have 138,000 miles on it.
I plan on driving The Mustang for another 10 years.
The Car is in perfect condition
I miss my 99 35th LE convert so much. I had to sell it 4 years ago and now I can’t find one for anywhere near what I sold it for.
Yeah they seem to going up in price these days. It’s hard to find clean ones anymore. Heck my friend is looking for one and it’s hard to find one as clean as mine for less than 6k.
I like the original ride height. Allows me to not worry about potholes. I think the original ride height is a plus.
Ride height is dependent on so many variables anyways, which is why i would say its less of a con and more something the guy doesnt like
4in for tire chains clearance
Cons of owning my 2014 V6 Mustang: Governed to 110mph even though it has 300+ HP because the factory driveshaft explodes if you go much faster. Aluminum 1 peice driveshaft that won't explode- $750. Hand held tuner so you can turn off the governer after upgrading the driveshaft- $450. $1200 just so you can go over 110mph. Shoulda bought the $20,000 '16 Camaro RS I wanted 🙄
Wow, I didn’t know that about the driveshaft. That sucks
Or you could stop buying v6’s and get a real muscle car with a v8
Guns&Cars got no problem supporting 😉
@@BuckeyeBallistics Foxbody 5.0 dont push more than 200 horsepower lol, even with bolts on itll make no more than 230 lol,
What would happen if you drilled holes in the hood scoop to make it functional? Would debris get into the engine bay?
I have a friend with a 3v that made a functional hood scoop and now water likes to get in and pool up on top of the back cylinders. No# 7 coil pack shorted out and so he was running on 7 cylinders for a little while. The Mach 1 shaker hood has a tight seal keeping water out.
I have a 04 mustang gt 40th anniversary it has 162,000 miles on it, getting ready to fix it up
I'm currently looking at buying one. This video is very helpful thank you!
You’re welcome! You’ll like it a lot.
only thing i would add is the intake manifold
That is a beautiful car.
Got junkyard tires from an equinix coded floor pans in with aluminum tape rides smoother and quieter than my brother's Cadillac car
Where did you get the rims? They look beautiful
They were on it when I bought the car. They’re 03 cobra rep wheels. I think they are on americanmuscle.com
I still want one. Can’t compare to my nicer car but would make a great DD. Maybe just a coyote swap would fix all the issues
I live in Canada so higher ride height could better in the winter
The New Edge was a leap forward in styling. But that 4.6 is a dog. You can throw a bunch of money at it if you want only to still be slower than a stock LS of the same era. I think that's why every guy with one in my town has a loud exhaust and drives around in low gear. Good candidates for LS swaps though.
? Same car but I have a ticking noise sounds like an lawnmower when I start it up some people say might b an exshaust leak or push rods knocks hard
The 4.6s don’t have pushrods. It’s probably a bad exhaust leak, a dead cylinder, or it’s about to shoot a plug.
Richmond Virginia here, I'll fix that sparkplug, intake, lowering etc issues........
I wonder why the vents were fake on those
Funny part is about the brake scoops on the side they are functional from 1994-1998 lol
My 01 Cobra is lowered an inch and a half. Looks great but if I'd known that it would scrape on loose change left in the road I'd never bought it like that. Back roads are out of the question. Beautiful car but it likes smooth roads only.
Mine doesn’t scrape very much.
Check your exhaust
What is the tire and wheel setup? And are they all the same size all around? If not what sizes? Im new to all this so i dont know what will fit and what won’t Thank you 🙏🏻
17x10.5 in the rear. 17x9 in the front. 315/35/17 and 275/40/17
The cylinder head thread repair is t really that hard to repair, I have a 01 expedition that did that, hence why I got it for $200, Amazon had the repair kit fairly cheap, I might have $300 total in this thing, it runs and drives good now, and I'm getting ready to put it up for sale*
Gonna go look at a 97 cobra? After work. These were the about same aside from the body lines right? I just hate the leg room situation... probably will modify the seat rails .
Yep same chassis and basically the same interior. I just picked up a 95 5.0 actually. It’s really nice.
@@CarGuyV8 just saw a 95 5.0 cobra with only 14k miles... what a dream
I have an 01 gt convertible. Feels so sluggish compared to my 2013 gt. Mainly torque feels WAY less. But still fun with no issues and love dropping the top.
Yes these cars feel very weak below 3,000 rpms.
@@CarGuyV8 agreed. At highway speeds it does pretty well. But get up and go is oddly lacking
Gears are your friend. 4:10`s if your looking for quick acceleration from a stop but you'll loose that highway acceleration. 3:73's are the sweet spot for these cars and WAY better than stock.
Bro everything you mentioned I have problems with on my 2004 40th anniversary
Still a fun and beautiful car to drive
What size tires and rims are on your mustang? I love the beefy stance.
17x10.5 and 17x9 I believe
BRO WHAT as a GM guy that ended up with a 2001 gt bullitt with a 5k engine and tranny both built brand new 97k on body and ab 300 wheel converted to manual my car rides sooo smootrhhhhhh
Really nice car think Ford manufactured some good v6s not sure never directly owned a Ford only have read on them driven them
You must be from L.A? (lower Alabama) Was just thinking a nice drive around the block would have been sweet.
Actually I’m in Texas lol
@@CarGuyV8 Huntsville, TX here myself.
I am 6 ft tall and the car feels too small for me. The seats fit too tight and the steering wheel is too close too my chest.😊
Some of the problems is just him being short or maybe just a lesser example of said car
Wow mint condition love it. How many miles?
About 153xxx
CarGuyV8 nice bro.
I’m thinking about getting this car as a first car and don’t know how to drive stick is this a good first car and is this a good car to learn stick
Honestly there are many better choices to learn on, but if you take it easy and be careful you shouldn’t have any trouble learning on one.
yeah, the ride height is my biggest ick on this gen of mustang, mine looks mfing lifted but its stock
my switch panel does that aswell lol
Have a 1999 mustang GT. Love it to death but can confirm shifting position is not ideal
This is a body style that just seems to become more and more attractive as time goes along……👍
Agreed
I've had a bunch of them...rear end is the first thing that goes..and then the plastic intake...
And then eventually a headgasket or transmission. They’re fun cars but expensive to mod and no fun to repair.
Just recently bought a 2002 4.6 with 220k miles kinda scared on how long it will last
There’s alot of high mileage 4.6s out there. Try to enjoy it.
keeping my 2000 v6 manual, lite moded, not a boring drive in a busy city roads at all. Engine is still strong and no worry for that interference engines crap breaking something or plastic engine parts made today by Germans high performance, blah which wont last 100k lol
I like this guy’s accent. Reminds me of my boss haha
Hi, would yall say it’s a reliable daily driver car also road trips and stuff ???
Yes, if you get a good one that hasn’t been beat to death. I’ve been dailying a different GT for 4 months now.
That color looks so nice
Hey, so I was GIVEN a shell from a car tear apart auction car. 98 Mustang. Nothing but the dash and wheel left of the car. Noting in the center console or radio area. Took years of pulling to get it together.
Wanna talk about a shit show. Best "Worst" comment I got about the car. Was it was like riding a roller coaster. lol
Made it 200,000 miles before the torque converter finally wore out and the repair was as much as a down payment on a solid college ride. Now i'm back in a 19 Mustang GT with all the bells. And boy does it feel nice to now have to ignore the roaring wind coming through the windows.
Ooh what about all the lights that come up on the dash and stay on? Does yours have that problem? Lol
Nope all of my lights are off. My cel is disabled though.
